Writing Linear Equations: Standard Form [fbt]
This video by Fort Bend Tutoring shows the process of writing the equation of a line in standard form (Ax + By = C). Eight (8) writing linear equations examples are shown in this video which includes using the slope formula, slope-intercept formula and the point-slope formula. This math concept, writing linear equations in standard form, is used in all algebra, geometry, precalculus and calculus courses. Intro/Outro by Shirley Q. Liquor. Instruction by Larry "Mr. Whitt" Whittington.

As always, love your videos. Question--when/why is standard form of an equation used? When is it helpful to have it in standard form versus slope intercept form? Thanks for the feedback!
@FortBendTutoring
7 жыл бұрын
+Jeff Sellers Hello Jeff! Standard form is used often as a formal way to write an equation such as when it's used in Set-Builder notation. Also, it is used in systems of equations (especially the elimination and substitution methods). Slope-Intercept form is used in function notation, graphing and piecewise functions.
thanks that was good and understandable

+Humberto Zubia You can eliminate the fraction by multiplying the entire equation (each term) by the common denominator of the equation.
In 7:26 why did you use the equation y= mx + b isnt that the equation of the slope intercept form ? This video is about standard form right ? Why did you use the slope intercept equation ?
@FortBendTutoring
6 жыл бұрын
We may use the slope-intercept form or the point-slope form to create the equation which is then converted into standard form.

Okay, so my homework on standard form is giving me problems with fractions. If the equation of standard form CAN'T be written in fractions and MUST all be in integers, why is it asking for it? For instance: 3x + 2 = 1/3 (y - 1). See what I mean? Please get back to me as soon as possible. Thank you!
