Writing and Introducing Good Characters in Fiction. Do Physical Descriptions Really Work?

In this excerpt, my sister and I discuss very briefly some of the common mistakes writers make when describing characters, especially for the first time. We talk about how our experience of a story is generated (to what degree it is visual; HOW to pursue the visual elements in an actual permanent and absorbing way) . . . . we talk about the things that make a character memorable, and the things that do not. Enjoy!

This is interesting because I agree with you partially. Physical descriptions are important in my book as a person's hair color literally determines if people want to kill them or not for example and it becomes a way of describing social status. So it can be used if it serves a purpose otherwise I find it to be better to have the reader imagine traits on their own. A pretty famous example is Annhilation in which you don't find out the main character is Asian until the second book when it becomes relevant, which led to a mini controversy over white washing and stuff of all things
