    Hello, Schin! I have a question about using cursive handwriting. I am a minister and write to people within my community of whom I do not know personally. The newer generation, from what I understand, cannot really read script handwriting! They only see print on laptops, computers, tablets, books, etc. When they see scripted, handwritten letters, they often cannot read them. Is this a lost art now? Should I adapt to writing in print format now to the public? If so, what would be beautiful, yet readable, for many new generation graduates? Thank you! I love your channel and subscribed!

    Schin - nice series of videos. Question for you: Do you move your entire arm when you write, letting the hand move with your arm, or is your arm relatively still? Sometimes moving the entire arm allows for more graceful - though sometimes larger - letters. The Palmer Method emphasizes the arm movements, and with practice, one can write smaller, if that is what you like. Your videos are very reminiscent of the hours and hours I spent in school learning penmanship, although we were forbidden to have breaks between letters in our words, as the entire purpose of good penmanship was for clarity, readability, and speed. Looking forward to seeing more from you!

    Hi Naomi, for regular handwriting I just do a combination of finger and forearm movement. Whole arm movement is wonderful for calligraphy or calligraphy-like penmanship but a little difficult to master, and I feel is unnecessary for everyday writing tasks such as grocery lists. These videos are geared towards beginners as well.

    Thank you so much for your great work, Schin! I've been practicing cursive handwriting and I find my progress not going so well due to the grip problem. It's so hard to follow exactly as the guidance for hand position, I just can't write without touching the wrist on the paper. Do you have any solution for this? Looking forward to your reply :) Thanks in advance!

  • @OpenInkStand

    @OpenInkStand

    That's great, your wrist is not supposed to touch the paper. It should be slightly lifted. Sounds like you're on the right track.

    Hi Schin! So, I recently got into pointed pen calligraphy, and got an oblique holder. What ink and paper, nibs would you recommend as a good starting brand? (Side note: I have a Nikko G nib right now, but thinking of getting some Zebra G nibs).

  • @OpenInkStand

    @OpenInkStand

    7 жыл бұрын

    Nikko and Zebra G are great nibs! I recommend sumi ink (diluted with about 30% water) and a good quality paper like Rhodia or Clairefontaine.

  • @cashlewis19

    Nah, for liquid sumi ink just water is fine. I never add gum arabic to my sumi ink. Just remember to stir once in a while.

    Completely missed this series until now. agh, KZread! xD One problem I feel I have is that my penmanship style for calligraphy and regular writing is different. I use a similar hold to yours for flex writing, but my family hand is executed with a standard tripod grip. Maybe that explains why I have trouble with consistency, haha.
