    My taste memory palette might be small, many tastings yielded sensations I cannot pinpoint to associate with taste memory either food or non-food related. I just let them flow in then internalize my emotions and thoughts which was lit up by the smell of tea and I am happy at the end. This content convinced me to go out and explore the vast world which I know there are many terrains I havn't set my nose (foot) on. Thank you, Don.

    I have a difficult time with floral fragrances. I can pick them up but lack the knowledge of being able to label them. I was considering the purchase of an essential oil set to compare and learn differences. Your video has changed my mind and given me a better idea. I will instead visit different floral shops and plant nurseries to gain better memory associations.

    I have an idea on how to make people speak more freely about their experiences during tea tastings: Tell the group to think of one tasting note, ask when everybody is ready and ask each and every member of the group about it, swiftly changing between the participants after getting an answer. The goal is just to make them speak, not to dwell into each flavor note they name. This also releases the tension of expectation "what happens if I speak?", "what happens if I'm 'wrong' ?". Because there is no "wrong", there is only sharing or not sharing what you feel.

    An important point is how to search in your memory. It's a tree structure. For exemple : fruit > lemon > lemon peel > fresh lemon peel. You don't always start from the trunk but you have to reach for the leaves.

    Finally I got to see this week's video and I must say it, for me it's actually one of the most interesting and stimulating video you're ever taken! I wanted to ask a question about the 5th tip you gave: can you explain better how you memorize a new odor other than associate it with emotional memories? Let's say, for example, that you are at a restaurant and you order something you never tasted in the past, how do you add this new odor to your olfactive vocabulary? Do you associate it with some other food that's you tasted In the past, or to some other properties (eg. colors, feelings)?

    Great tips, I personally find nose flares helpful. Probably a habit that stuck from sniffing wine glasses. On a slightly different note, but tea-related, the recent research on GABA for early Rona treatment looks very interesting. Can't wait for more conclusive results. Dr. Been's channel covers it very well.

    My sense of smel and taste is a lifelong compromise,my niece has it as well. So,no,I cannot taste the marzipan,or plum,or hazelnut,etc. Does that mean that I think that you are being a super salesman,selling nonsense notes?? No!! I have purchased a LOT of tea from you,and you know what? It tastes beautiful,in MY own way. And I thank you for providing that opportunity to experience it.😌

    Also,I must add. My compromised sense of smell drives me away from Gaiwan. Why? Because now,my aesthetic sense needs to compensate,and I do so with Yixing. I have a master Wu. And what I do,I brew the tea,rinse if necessary,and then use that rinse,or subsequent steepings to pour over the teapot. As I watch it dry,like time -lapse photography,I repeat,as further steepings happen. Finally,when the pot magically dries for the final time,I pour. My point is that the tea experience can also be visual,and a great measuring tool for steeping time. I just recieved,among others,a TONG of Simple Dreams,a a Fuding Shou Mei. I shall enjoy it,in my own way,with gratitude to you and to Celine,for creating the sweet art.(Presumably,your daughter ❤️)

    The trick of watching the tea dry on the pot is something that I have seen before and a really beautiful way to time infusions. Thanks for sharing your tea pleasures, indeed there is so much more than taste in tea appreciation.

    I've just started listening but I have to write now, I'm at 16:15~ min. I used to have problem with sinuses but after surgery it got much better. Oftentimes though I test flow of air in one and other nostril and I got OCD about it XD Good to know it's not unusual. When I accept it and instead of focusing if my nose is ok or not, I will focus more on just experience from taste/aroma.

    tip 1. use your mouth tip 2. have a tongue tip 3. use water with the leaves tip 4. boil the water first tip 5. its more pleasant if you drink the boiling hot tea out of a cup instead of your hands. i managed to give 5 pro tips myself, yay :D

    For me a lot of old Pureh teas smells like a fall a mountain hiking, wet mud, rotting leaves & a mustiness… BTW not a positive for me.
