    Great job mate! I'm going out to the back yard to make myself one of those. I've been using a little arbourist saw with one hand (dangerous!) while holding the sticks/branches with my left hand. You've just given me the solution to my problem. Thanks again.

    I'm not a logger by any stretch of the imagination. But I am a homeowner who deals with downed trees all year long. this is awesome if you're always cutting in the same area like i am. Love the innovation. Thanks for sharing your creativity.

    I go to the woods and cut my wood to length. I then haul it home and stack it in the wood shed. It is easier to cut and carry smaller wood in the forest for me. You also leave all of the little pieces and junk to rot and make soil for future trees. I do not have to clean up a mess. After drying for a few months I might then split the wood. Keep making videos I do always learn something from every one.

    The main issue I see is that most logs over 6in diameter are too heavy to lift into it.

    I use a metal scissor-type trestle that came free with my first Ryobi chainsaw 15 years ago. It had a horizontal metal bar between the pivots which was basically a design flaw as you had to be really careful not to run the saw into it. Once I had removed it with an angle grinder it was perfect. Just drop any log from 2” to 9” diameter on to it and slice into rounds. Anything larger I cut up on the ground, being careful not to touch dirt or stones with the saw.

    Two things:Responding to immaterial points doesn't advance anything and totally obfuscates the real issue: an ingenious adaptation of a method to cut wood. And, it was about two weeks or so after I saw your video...I had to go through my history to find this video...just to tell you I fabricated one of these holders and it works great. Thanks for the video. It is a real time saver as well as a safer way of cutting wood.

    I like that. Folks who put their foot on a log to cut to the log are obviously taking some chance. With your setup it's like having another set of hands. Safety is more important than speed. Nice job.

    Three comments : (1) Nice idea, but I like the portability of a sawbuck better, you can easily load it up with 10-15 branches. (2) The next time you dig a post hole, trying digging the first foot or so of depth with a regular garden shovel, then switch over to the post hole digger. It goes much faster. (3) Just my preference, but you could have covered your interesting design in about a minute. Still, enjoyed watching. Also a Jersey guy.

    Looks like you work with a chainsaw frequently. I've been having a chainsaw issue. Maybe you can help. Once I get the chain snug but not to snug (I use Wranglerstar's method for testing chain tightness) and tighten the bar nut (might not be the right wording there) then start cutting. The chain starts getting loose very quickly, like within a minute. It's like the chain is stretching. At first I thought this was normal for a newer chain but it continues to happen. Borrowed a better chainsaw and it still happens. Any ideas?

  • @Fridgemusa

    @Fridgemusa

    8 жыл бұрын

    Due to heat from friction the metal in the chain will expand and the chain will loosten but it's nothing to worry about and is considered normal operation and the chain will tighten again as it cools down.

    You say that the nails is being pushed out on the swinging cross piece and going to replace them with screws, I would suggest that you also put that section of 2x4 across the bottom of the two vertical pieces as you are putting a lot of stress on the nails holding that bottom piece to them, let the weight of the limbs "PUSH" the 2x4 up against the two vertical pieces. just a hint to avoid a mishap waiting to happen.

    Good video. Thank youMay I offer a couple of design improvements which may offer better stability of logs in your device? Firstly to secure logs against lateral movement whilst cutting, consider changing from a single pivotted hanging frame between the two uprights to maybe five smaller ones. Each of same original drop/height but only a fifth of the original width. Fit spacers on top shaft to allow free movement of each frame (this should look like a childs swing set with five swings). Your log will push up only those frames directly above it whilst those at the side remain lowered securing the log against any great lateral movement. Also rather than secure the log with a plank (with nails fitted) maybe use round thick branches as free rotating rollers on shafts (just like the other end of the hanging frame above), not secured tight by screws. You can drive nails into these 'rollers' from all directions, removing the nail heads with an angle grinder, sharpening if required. Since the rollers have nails exiting from all angles they should secure the logs better. Just drop the oller down hard nto the log.I hope you can understand my explanation OK and that you see some value in my suggestions. Regards Graham.

    I guess it works. A rather elaborate way of getting it done. Personally, if I have to pick up the wood, I'd rather just cut it where it is by sticking a log under the piece and cutting on the spot. But that's just me...

    Dude, the music is too freaking loud. WHY the hell did you even add music to this?! BUT! Other than the music -- this is a good video. Good shots of your work -- and easy to follow process.

    Get rid of the music. When you are outside, speak loud n clear, especially if there is any wind. OTT, great job building n improvising!!!

    The height is just what I was shooting for. No bending! lol Although it may be a bit more dangerous. No problems so far *fingers crossed* :)
