HOW TO CUT A LOT OF WOOD FAST. Build Your Own Sawbuck and Simplify The Task Of Cutting Firewood..

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

By Request of my subscribers, I'm showing how building your own crossbuck will enable you to cut lots of firewood in a short amount of time. Mixing old school technology with modern chainsaws will handle the task with ease.
Homesteading off the grid and on the mountain certainly has its challenges but there's no place we'd rather live. We restored the old camp and transformed it into a cozy home for ourselves, then we cleared more land, built a workshop and greenhouse and spent the late part of the winter starting seeds and now we're busy planting our first garden on the mountain. Little by little we're reaching our goals of having a self sufficient homestead.

MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
Video of icebox:
Video of Gas Refrigerator:
Propane Freezer:
Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

When not in use turn it upside down and throw a half sheet of ply or an old door on it and have an outdoor work table too.

This maybe just as efficient as my procedure: I placed a 12’ wooden ladder on sawhorses and put my log(s) on it and cut them in between the rungs. It worked well for years. Eventually I purchased firewood.

He restore this old house "Fachwerkhaus" genannt the methods are real traditionall and he works with wood, clay bricks and also metall He also has made a traditionell groundoven. Many of his "teaching" videos are in englisch and even if verry few would ever build or repair things in this old school way- watching how to do it is real fun.Greeting from Hamburg in Germany- where the Hamburgers came from. The part of Hamburg where I live (direct on the lake "Alster") is foundet in the year 1290! We also have many old house stil in function that are over 800 years old. Sweated over one of those for more hours than I want to remember as a teenager. We had no chainsaw so cut firewood by hand for hours at a time just like Charles Ingalls! If it was snowing or raining (the Scottish Highlands were always one or the other!) then it was pulled into the single garage but the sawing continued. These days I have a chainsaw, just had a busy couple of days before the rains came down, but living on a boat means limited storage! Always something! LOL! "Glad you are keeping on keeping on!"

Been wanting to build one for years, but never seem to get around to it! I cut about 6-7 cord a year and haul all the limb wood back to the house at about 6' lengths to save time hauling out from the woods. I criss-cross all of them on the ground, but it becomes a mess and a trip hazard with rounds everywhere - I think you've given me the itch to finally get one done as cutting season just started for me here in southern NH - will save time, better on my back, and the rounds should be more manageable! Hope all is well Boss!

I will give it a go. I have been using an old tree stump and just cutting on the ground. Now that my back is shot I can not do that! hahahah. Jim

Stack on 6 or 8 64" lengths and rip right through them. You'll love it.

I've never used a saw buck, basically because I cut much larger diameter rounds and cut them to 16 inch lengths out in the woods. However, they just opened the woods again to wood cutting and I might cut a cord of smaller diameter stuff just to try using a saw buck, after I build it of course, LOL......
