Yvonne, they're lying down around you because they've all known you since they were foals and TRUST you. Not only that, they see the leader of the herd, Queen Uniek, TRUST YOU. So they will always follow the lead mare. All the best equines need at minimum 45 minutes of REM sleep. They cannot get that sleep if they lock their legs and sleep standing up. Actually “American” (or any horse) horses will lie down with an owner sitting nearby as I have witnessed and experienced that myself. There is always a horse standing guard while one sleeps too. I know that it all depends on what life is like for that horse but is most definitely based on trust….trust in their human and trust in their fellow herd member who is guarding them. It was obvious here that they have a strong trust in their “Queen” and in their human Queen, Yvonne! Just a beautiful scene and video!

As an owner of 3 horses and a 6+ year volunteer at a horse rescue in the USA, and as I know that natural horsemanship has become one of the most popular ways to train and treat a horse here, your remark shows a lot of ignorance and is not an accurate depiction of how horses are treated here. Sure there are practices that most horse lovers do not like, like the Big Lick and we keep fighting to get laws put in place to end that practice. But every country has practices and treatment of horses that are cruel. And then there are the countries in Asia and Europe that eat horse meat making it a constant battle here to try to protect horses from being bought by kill buyers and sent to slaughter in Mexico or Canada. The Safe Act, that will eliminate horses from the U.S. being sent to slaughter, is finally coming up for consideration in a US House committee now that has Democrats in the majority and a Democrat as president. We are hopeful that act will finally get passed. So please limit your comments to known facts rather than opinions!

After watching these ladies lounging in the warm sun and sand I feel like taking a nap myself.

Horses lay down together because firstly they all influence one another and secondly when one mare lays down the other feels more secure to lay down to. Zavvar 😊

That was truly amazing! I was an active horse owner for decades. Even when I only had one horse, it was usually in a boarding facility. So I know that some horses almost never lay down to nap. And even fewer in the presence of a human. I have never seen that many horses in a group lying down together like that!! Not only does this require a great amount of trust within the herd; it also shows that the herd sees Yvonne as part of that trust worthy herd!! Amazing! 😃🥰🐎

At 1 time I counted 5 horses laying down, that's pretty special. It shows how much they love & trust Yvonne. I loved seeing Klaske on her side appearing to be sound asleep with her mouth open, I wouldn't have been surprised to hear her snore if horses snore.😍

Klaske is SO cute with her legs all curled up and snoozing away. What a sweetie.

It’s so lovely the way they all trust you Yvonne, it must be wonderful to have these majestic animals in your life. Poor Frieda with the big belly, all moms will be able to sympathise with her. This is very special! I used to lay down with my horse all the time. I would sit in the stall with her and she would come lay next to me and lay her head on my lap. She never once hurt me, always so gentle…and she was a big big girl, 1,800 pounds 17.2 hands. I miss her so much! Thank You 🙏 for the beautiful video

I was in awe! Yvonne talking softly to the ladies and they allow her so close while lying in rest. I’ve never seen this before with a herd. Uniek standing guard after she gets her snuggles.

@@greghammer4000 I was along the Blue Ridge mostly around Asheville. Not quite at the Smokies. Maybe later this summer we’ll go further into the mountains. It sure is beautiful this time of year with everything in bloom and we saw amazing waterfalls. Only a Friesian Horses video titled “What’s Happening” could have distracted me from it. 🧡🧡

Seeing this and knowing that Yvonne has had her accident and is in the hospital just tears up my heart and my soul. I'm praying for her her family the doctors I'm praying for healing amen. I'm praying for the horses too because they don't understand why she's not around. I'm sure they miss her.

first time I see so many bathing beauties lie down. the sand must feel warm and it keeps down the fly's on them. everyone of except Uniek! but that was exciting, I never seen so many horses lie down and enjoy the beautiful sunny day.

Nap time in the sunny pasture. This is special, and so beautiful! But I'm not surprised. How many times have we seen them lie down in front of Yvonne? Remember that lovely moment when Yvonne sat with Risey's head in her lap? They trust you completely, Yvonne!

How special is that!! They are so relaxed around you, Yvonne. Poor Frieda, I thought she was going to need help getting up. Bless. Uniek is as beautiful as ever. Lianne is sooooo sweet. Such a gentle girl. Everyone is competing for Yvonne’s attention. Too sweet! ❤️🐴❤️🐴❤️🐴

@@donalynschumann1275 All the horses have regular access to salt blocks in their stalls they can enjoy when they choose. When the weather gets too hot or the flies get too annoying the horses can come inside for a break for the most part though they are able to be outside full time during the summer(yes they do have fly spray as well)Shannon MOD

I watched this again today, it's one of my all-time favorite videos! They trust you so much to take a rest alongside you! And the ones who stay standing almost seem to be guarding the ones laying down. Frieda sure does have a big belly, I'm excited she's had a healthy foal and can't wait to meet Tsjerk! And of course my sweet Klaske is here - youngest filly of the 2019 foals (Jonah Rein being the youngest of all). With the four-year olds getting to foaling age, you may have another year like that soon, with eight all together! I still recite them in my head when I can't sleep, with their mothers.

I could watch this for hours. What a magnificent video. On a spectacular warm day with the magnificent mares and lovely Yvonne so in synch with each other. And Queen Uniek the guardian of everything. It feels like her standing in close proximity helps "those teenagers" 😅 all have the confidence to lie down and totally relax with their trusted human friend. I was thinking about these two events with the mares and the colts which took place. I know Yvonne has larger things in her mind but I bet she also has the horses, friends and YT family on her mind at times. I just can’t help but think these moments may really be healing thoughts for her - besides the love of her husband and sons. I sure miss her, the horses and friends at Stahl G. And keep her in my heart and prayers along w her family. Wishing (and praying) you well Yvonne!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ for the family and ❤️one to grow on.

Spring/Summer time in the pastures. Yvonne with the herd is some of the best moments on this channel. The video today takes much film footage to then present to us edited. I so admire the extra time Yvonne puts in to share these kinds of videos. 🤗 I often try to share some unique observation with fellow herd members. 🤔 Of course Uniek, but also Geertje, and Jildou exhibit leadership qualities. I find it no coincidence these three horses remained standing and "on guard" as the herd enjoys this very important Rem sleep.

Nice theory but actually you are mistaken. The queen is the the mare with the highest rank. Her rank is followed by Reintje and then Saly. After Saly comes Frieda and Hester then Geertje and then Ginny. Jildou is most likely at the bottom with all her fellow filly friends because they are younger and less experienced. They may not lay down because they want to graze or are not tired.

Geertje does exhibit some leadership qualities as she was the Leading mare for a long time like Uniek. But in this pasture her rank is low there are 5 other mares more dominant then her Zavvar 😊

In the year I have been watching, I have never seen anything like this! It is like they are doing a group trust! I can just imagine, they’ve had a long season of being inside while it was cold and wet, now they can be outside and they know through their black coats they can store up some heat to the very marrow of their bones. And IT FEELS SOOOO GOOD!!! Such simple and beautiful pleasures!
