I think it's about falling in love for the first time, something he had never felt before. All of a sudden, love comes walking into your life and it's a strange and alien feeling, with fate pulling the strings and whomping you over the head! :-)

Yeah; all the wording about "alien" this and "strange" that, I've always thought, is simply meant to convey the sense of wonder and newness one feels when "love comes walking in" into their lives. Suddenly everything seems different; someone else is with you at the center of your life instead of just you!

Sorry but it's literally about an alien encounter. Read up on the subject and it falls right in line with what many people claim they experience. Contact- asleep or awake- wake up to questions- there she ( an alien) stands in a silken gown. It's all there and Sammy has said that is exactly what it's about.

The best version of Van Halen

This is my favorite song of all time. it's the song that I can pinpoint for a fact got me into rock. I will never abandon it.

Dang India! Nice pull! Deep cut! Im a mega Van Halen fan and this album 5150 helped shape my life. When I was in 9th and 10th grade I would listen to this album everyday. Some may talk smack cause its a ballad or a catchy pop song....but Sammys voice is wonderful and the music is beautiful. The chorus is subtle yet strong and the way Sammy sings the verses are so powerful. That third verse breaks me every time. "Sleep and dream. Thats all I pray!" As always, I enjoy listening to music with you.

Sammy can put some real power behind his vocals, even to this day and he is now in his early 70's. And he's made millions off his Cabo Wabo Tequila.

Sammy was an awesome singer in the band. Eddie Van Halen is slammin' on the guitar; he is considered one of the best guitarists in the world. Alex Van Halen, Eddie's brother, has always been the drummer of the band. 5150 was /is a great album from start to finish. React to "Why Can't This Be Love" on the same album . "Dreams" is another great song off that album. :-)

I absolutely love 5150 and play the cd all of the time..Sammy Hagar(the Red Rocker), Eddie Van Halen, Michael Anthony and Alex Van Halen totally kicked ass on this album...

And at 72, Sammy can still get it.........Saw him in the 70s....NYC....Madison Square Garden......was back up act for Sabbath I think?...and was just his band Sammy Hagar....I knew then he would go far.....was mainly crazy on the guitar.....back then.....his voice transcends......IMO

the fact is Sammy simply has the better voice. Roth had a more "electric" personality and stage presence, but Sammy's the one with the actual vocal chops.

I grew up hearing this thanks to my Dad. Every trip whether it was to school, to the store, or to soccer practice, he'd play the 5150 album nonstop in his old f150

Hot Summer Nights! But that whole album is excellent .

Now that Eddie has died, that last verse n chorus is definitely most poignant. And yes Sammy fronted the band from 85 to 96 , and no new drummer , the guitarist and drummer are brothers, Edward van Halen on guitar and Alex Van Halen on drums , Micheal Anthony on bass and Sammy Hagar is the singer

Not only did Eddie VanHalen perform all of the guitars, he performed all of the keyboards. He started out as a pianist.

Van Halen is the name of the band because the guitarist and drummers Eddie and Alex Van Halen . Eddie recently died a few days ago and there was no new drummer. Sammy was to new to band at that time. Watching this made me cry because it brought back a lot of memories. I'm 50 I was 16 when this came out and I was in love with this girl who worked across the street from where I worked. But as it goes sometimes, she was in love with someone else. This song came out at this time. This reminds me of my past so much. The alien he's talking about means " some thing out of our control" Love at first sight.

You really need to do Van Halen - I Can't Stop Loving You. Awesome song!

This was my very first cd when cds first came out. Love Van Halen with Sammy Hagar better just because I relate to his lyrics and all out vibe he puts out. David Lee Roth was the party but like all parties, they get old and you just grow up. He put out some great music back then. Right Now, Seventh Seal, Cabo Wabo, Finish What Ya Started , Dreams are some other great songs from VH with Sammy. Eagles Fly, Mas Tequila are some great solo songs too. Sometimes the lyrics can be confusing but the vibe of the song can be just as moving.. You can make it a memorable soundtrack to a good memory. Liked the reaction but love how music can bring everyone together. Peace and love from Massachusetts!

Sammy Hagar is awesome. The drummer is Alex Van Halen the lead guitarist is Eddie Van Halen (brothers) and Michael Anthony on bass. Sammy started out in the late 60s and early 70s in a band called Montrose (Rock Candy). Then a lot of solo stuff (I Can't Drive 55), then joined Van Halen in the mid 80s. Sammy went solo again. Then in the early 2000s started a band called Chickenfoot. An all star line up. Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Santriani and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers). They did a couple albums and tours and now has a band called The Circle. He just turned 72 October 13th and is still touring. And still sounds good.

That's the thing about art. Nobody gets to tell you what it means. Even the artist.

He literally means alien. Hes mentioned it before. I believe he even wrote about it in his autobiography. He said he thought he was having a dream but later realized it actually happend. He said when he was young and just starting out that he had something downloaded in his brain by ETs. Hes also talked about some strange supernatural stuff happening around the death of his father.BTW hes not the only one I have heard talk about that happening. Its like a dna upgrade or something I think. Nikola tesla spoke about that at length. He claimed that many of is insights about the nature of reality itself and his inventions were downloaded from some universal field. Qauntum physicists have confirmed that this is happening.You have to tune into the field to access the information.

Aliens and alien abductions are real but the fact is it's demonic. There are in fact evil spirits that have even affected Rene Descartes. In actuality it's a distraction. Only Jesus Christ can save you. I realize this can look fanatical but in the battle between good and evil, everyone has to take a side.

They actually do a great live version of this on the Live without a Net, the same concert you reviewed Eruption for, if I recall correctly.

Eddie Van Halen is the guitarist and Alex Van Halen is the drummer. It's named for them and mockingly as Van Hagar for Sammy's era.

Alex, the drummer and older brother of Edward Van Halen had been present since the formation of the band way back in 1972.

"Why Can't This Be Love" is another oldie but goodie. FYI "Love Walks In" is about aliens.

Van Halen takes their from the last name of the guitarist and drummer; Eddie and Alex. They originally had a singer named David Lee Roth, who was a total showman. Very bombastic and over the top. You should check out a few videos with him in it, such as "Jump" or "Hot for Teacher." The band developed some issues and David left the band. Sammy Hagar, who was an already accomplished singer, was asked to join. Their style changed completely but still put out quality music. Skid Row is another band you should check out for a late 80's vibe. Check out "I Remember You"

Okay Alex Van Halen the drummer started the band and his brother Eddie Van Halen is the lead guitarist they are brothers and they both own the band so they called it after their last name Sammy Hagar is the replacement singer for the old singer lead singer David Lee Roth Michael Anthony plays the bass guitar and Eddie does the Rhythm guitar lead guitar and keyboards. Listen to When it's love...Sammy's voice is crazy in that one and the harmonies are great. Great song all around!!

It's not about 1 person..Its happens when you fall in "LOVE". The feeling & how it takes you over. Not just love someone but,..IN Love when you can't think about anything or anyone it takes you over!!

It is a new perspective for me which is really cool and I appreciate it. What's always drawing me to Van Halen, particularly the song, is the melody, Sammy's voice, one of my all-time favorite guitar solos. VH with Sammy was awesome. You should check out other songs during the Sammy era, many great songs.

The alien was Sammy. He was the love that came walking in while they were at the top of the world, the best band in the world at the time, but with no lead singer and fear of an uncertain future. All after achieving everything they ever dreamed of, and after a level of contention brewed between David Lee Roth and the rest of the band, they were in a place that was dark and sad instead of happy and joyous. Once you look at it in that light, it never hits the same again.

I loved this album when i was going to the beaches and lakes a lot - was perfect to kick back maybe smoke a little, play some frisbee and relax (dang - do young people ever play frisbee anymore?) I also loved the first few albums with David Lee Roth- those were fun to rock out or party to. Ty for playing this❤❤good memories.

Alx and Eddy Van Halen created the band. that is the why. Bringing in Sammy H-Agar well this was all over the radio back then. I was 10 that year. I miss that era so much. To experience as an adult, Oh yes I would love to. Nostalgia for a brighter time tinged no doubt by childhood but it is a force to be reckoned with. These songs long before I knew the who, I knew the voices. Music has been my comfort and solace and joy throughout my life.

The alien part to me since this song came out means this. No one knows what causes us to fall in love, then BAM, like some alien waited for the opportunity pulled this imaginary string and BAM your screwed is a good way !

My favorite VH song by far.

Much of music from this time period was designed to share a message or a sentiment about life that the masses (teens to young adults) could relate to. Before safe spaces and comfort dogs most of us would escape through and be inspired by our favourite artist and their works. For a moment we would close our eyes, drift away and soar high above our troubles. There was probably a song for most any common challenge that one would encounter and sharing that musical enjoyment with friends would become a special bond in itself. At least that’s how I saw it back then.
