Very succinct, very clear explanation. Thanks! I picked up my RAV4 XLE HYBRID this past weekend. I must mention the full time all wheel drive and battery weight make the car seem much more stable on the road when compared to the non-hybrid RAV4.

Thanks for the layman’s version; we are becoming a Toyota fam with daughters 22 Rav, my 23 Taco and getting wife a Highlander soon. i’ve been looking into the hybrid and it appears that she would benefit from getting one in the Highlander and considering the warranty of 150 K it sounds like a no-brainer.

Great, simple explanation of the engineering marvel of Toyota Hybrid technology. 🙂 I have been driving Toyota hybrid for over 16 years now, over 2 Priuses (Prii?) and logged almost 600k KM, and the technology is solid as a rock. My 2006 did eventually have a hybrid battery failure (I was one of the rare unlucky ones), however I had almost 300k KM at the time, and had it rebuilt and got another 120k out of the car before letting it go at ~400k and 10 years old… even with the battery failure, it certainly paid for itself in fuel savings over that time. 🙂. If the battery is going to fail (which is less likely all the time with advancing tech) it will be a high mileage; extremely unlikely to happen during the warranty period… which is now 10 years and 240k KM, so no worries on that for most people. 😉. As a side note, when the battery did fail on me and I got the dreaded “triangle of death”, I could still drive the car (for a short distance), so it didn’t strand me! Great engineering all around. My 2014 Plug In (a rare animal) continues to go strong! Waiting now for the new redesigned 2023 Prius Prime. 🙂. Can’t wait for the official details on that one!

Does the hybrid engine model of reenergizing the battery also include cars 2021 and earlier?

Love my ‘11 Prius but was in sitting traffic for over 2 hrs due to a crash. What is the best way to operate the car in this situation? Thx.

The Corolla Cross Hybrid costs $5k more than the standard version. According to my calculations with gas at around $3/gal. or slightly higher it would take nearly 20 years to recoup that money in fuel economy over buying the standard ICE version. The vehicle would have driven over 200k miles by then. So it's my opinion that Hybrids really aren't worth the fuel savings at all unless you're planning on keeping it 20+ years.

I have a 2023 Venza and average about 43 mpg, really amazing with plenty of power.

We have an 8 yr old Toyota Yaris self charge hybrid. We get about 60mpg around town because of the KERS. Normally from a traditional petrol only car I would expect 30mpg around town, but maybe 60 mpg on the motorway travelling at constant speed. So that is what the Yaris Hybrid does for you.

Hello there! Thank you very much for the useful video! I'm not very familiar with the hybrid cars and honestly wasn't really interested in them until recently. I have fully committed myself to EVs, and began to think about converting retro (and not so old) ICE cars. However after watching your video and a few others I began to think it makes sense to include in this group for conversion hybrid and plug in cars too. They are after all half electric to put it this way. For example Toyota/Lexus have some models which have powerful enough electric motors to move the car on electricity only, in this case is it possible to remove the ICE from the car and use it as electric only? Of Course battery capacity has to be increased and few other changes to be done. My question is does it make sense for this conversion and if it does, could you please point which models are the best candidates? Regards, Thanks!

@@stario , because, I paid $33k OTD for my unpackaged XLE Hybrid, not $36 or $40k. I don't want a sunroof, imitation leather heated seats, power rear door, stiffer suspension, or 18 inch wheels. These features expose buyers to higher total cost of ownership. Toyota value goes mostly unrealized until after about ten years.

What about the HV cable that needs to be change in 2 years ??

When I rented a hybrid Camry it said it was getting 50+ mpg but the sienna I just bought said it gets 36 mpg but I’ve never seen it say more than 20 mpg

So when going on a vacation on long trips the hybrids are not useful since you aren’t braking enough? So then should I use my Tundra V8 gas instead??

We have one to drive around work we only drive at speeds of 6-10mph and only do distances of 1-1.5 miles at a time so I get concerned that the battery doesn't get anywhere near full

Here’s a question I never see asked, when the gas engine is running, does it get fully warmed up or does it get shut off when only partially warmed up?

What are your thoughts on the rusting issue with the hybrid RAV4’s ? I have a 2019 ICE rav4 and was interested in upgrading to a hybrid (if they ever become available!!) but was put off by the rusting issue (I live in the US, but near the Canadian boarder and it’s snows 6 months of the year here 😅)

What if you travel out of town? Like 15hr drive

yes when you seat too long in the car then the engine start if self then charge again then if fully charge engine stop.Very cool not boring like regular car.Very happy with my Rav4 Hybrid.Hybrid very usefull if you at the mall looking for parking space your not using any gas

How did those things work in cold weather?

RAV4 makes 219hp but that’s partly due to a bigger sized engine? I’m not sure if the battery itself is higher wattage

I have a 23 hybrid so I Coast downhill and EV mode come on but sometimes the motor will kick in while driving down hill shutting off the EV Im not even pushing the accelerator

We have a Toyota Yaris hybrid that the 12v battery went flat overnight. I don't know if I left on any current draining systems though. The AA man said the 8 yr old battery was duff and recommended changing it. However the AA man did not carry suitable batteries for the Yaris and said I could only buy the 12V battery from a Toyota dealer. Apparently there is no other source for these batteries. However he was not able to source a suitable battery at that moment so I agreed to change it myself. It is quite straight forward But here is the weird bit. If I buy the 12V battery from Toyota and fit it myself it will cost me £171 but if I take my Yaris in to the dealer, they will change the battery for £140 approx all in. How does that work!? And I have to leave it all day. The problem is getting it to the dealer who is 10 miles away. The car is running again, but can I trust it to get me to the dealer to save the £30. I don't know at the moment. Weird or weird??

No offense but the bz4x is an only electric car? So how is that a hybrid? Regenerative breaking is just a feature to pump back a few watts back into the system. Hybrid implies more than one power source.

Nice SUV but you can’t even get it because there isn’t enough in the market

When most of your driving is on the highway over 70 mph, or if you drive with a heavy foot, the Hybrid system is much less efficient. These drivers should get a regular ICE vehicle. Hybrids and full EVs are most efficient when used in town, or in stop-and-go traffic.

More than 280,000 Hyundai and Kia vehicles are recalled over fears they could catch on fire if parked inside toyotas>hyundai and kias never wanna hear that hyundai or kia is better than the king of reliability toyotas!

Regenerative braking almost makes hybrids perpetual motion machines.

Never again for me.
