WOW !! THE PUREST VOICES IVE EVER HEARD ! FIRST TIME HEARING - PENTATONIX - HALLELUJAH [REACTION]

THIS GROUP IS SOMETHING SPECIAL !!
I CANT BELEIVE WHAT I HEARD
Lyrics
I'd heard there was a secret chord
That David played and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this
The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well, your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to the kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips, she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew ya
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Well, maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Dunno about the enhanced, technically Eqing the breath out os enhancing even tho you don't need post to do that... very usefull for bass or beatboxer, especially if bases aren't true bases but they can just extend to it (with that I mean that thwy don't have resonance @ the lowest nodes), Geoff talked about this in a Q&A And on mitch I think there is a little reverb or double for about a second, that said... are this considrd drastoc enhancements? nah, wouldn't say so, this are effects you can use in live as well without a lot of problems Am I sure and do I have proofs they use some minor effects? no How likely is it that they use some minor effects like reverb, EQ etc? quite likely

In addition to their two "originals" albums ("Pentatonix" and the recently released "The Lucky Ones") most of their other albums (except "Classics" and "Top Pop" and a couple of the Christmas albums) always included a few originals along with the covers. ("The Baddest Girl", "Love Again", "Natural Disaster", "Run to You", "See Through", "Standing By" are great examples from their earliest albums, PTX Vol I, PTX Vol II, and PTX Vol III)

Love the look on your face when Mitch had the lead. That was a classic Mitch slap. Each member of the group is an amazing talent. Mitch, Scott (first verse) and Kirsten were highschool friends. What is amazing is the vocal range of each of them. Scott is nominally the baritone, but can sing bottom tenor at the upper range as well as bass when needed. Avi is nominally the bass, and is almost a basso profundo but with the upper range of a baritone. Kirsten is a coloratura soprano but has the range to sing alto. Mitch is a contratenor who can sing baritone. Kevin is the beat boxer and is a tenor. He can sing baritone as well. What is most incredible is how this was arranged. Each verse as well as each time the chorus was sung was a different arrangement. 4 arrangements for the verses and 6 for the chorus, and easy as beautiful as the others. A technical triumph that kept the soul of the music front and centre.

@@Orodroth The jury is split on that. Every item I have seen about the actual studio track that was used for the video, says Avi is double tracked, OR Scott has taken over the Bass. The fact that there is no definitive answer is frustrating. Although more than one "Vocal Coach" has said that the "tone" of the Bass is Scott's in the video. And that the "Christmas Special" video, with Scott visibly taking over the Bass section, sounds the same as the "official" video. So believe what you will. I personally do hear a "difference" in the Bass during the Avi solo in the "Desert" video.

I didn't see anyone else post this, so I guess I will. Kevin (the Beatboxer) is actually creating the sounds with his mouth except the jacket thumping. It is just a bit more produced for the official MVs and albums. Maybe take a look at their live versions to see them actually perform all the parts. Like someone else said, they don't make anything they can't recreate live. Kevin also plays cello in some of their videos. And Scott plays piano. But those instances are few and far between. Maybe check out "Say Something" cover or "Perfect" cover to see it in action.

These people will wring your heart out, crush your soul, lift you up so high you have to look down to see Heaven, drag you through the depths of hell and make you love every step of the way. One warning I give: DO NOT jump into anything Mitch centered too fast. Not even his vocal range videos. Your head will explode. You have been warned. From here, your first with the Original five, take your time and do all of their songs from 2011-2017. They first won the Sing-Off in 2011, as a passionate group of teens that the world was NOT prepared for. Avi, the bass that rattled your brain, will continue to do so in every song until they parted ways on 2017. That's when the new bass/tenor Matt joined, and you'll love him when you get there. Don't worry about going too fast. You HAVE to take your time with these guys. Too much Pentatonix too quickly will cause permanent brain damage. Not that any of us mind it, but it gets dang intense! My suggestion for your very next PTX reaction is their Daft Punk Medley. It won them their first of three Grammy's. I'm DELIGHTED to have stumbled across you and your channel. I don't really subscribe first reactions, but how can I NOT? Look forward to the journey with you!!

Welcome to the world of Pentatonix, or PTX for short. Get ready for a quick boost to your channel from their rabid fans who call ourselves “Pentaholics”. Here is my quick intro to the group for new fans. PTX is a five member “a Capella” (without instruments) vocal band formed in 2011 for the NBC television reality competition show “The Sing Off”. The original members are “the trio”, who went to high school together in Arlington, Texas made up of: SCOTT HOYING, male, 6’3”, usually blond, sings baritone, but has a wide vocal range and covers the bass line of songs when the normal bass is singing a lead. MITCH GRASSI, male, 5’10”, normally black hair but has changed body mass, wardrobe and hair style so much in videos he’s often mistaken for different people. Mitch has an amazingly high range (contra tenor) that some mistake for a second female voice. KIRSTIN MALDONADO, female, 5’4”, natural hair color is black but changes it often in videos. Kirsti (rhymes with “thirsty”) sings mezzo soprano and, for a time in 2018 between the group’s tours, had the female lead on Broadway in the production of “Kinky Boots”. Added to “the trio” for the show were: AVI KAPLAN, male, 5’11”, long dark hair, beard, usually wears a knit hat of some kind. Avi is a classically trained “basso profundo”. He provides the vocal bass line as well as added vocal percussion but often uses his upper registry to sing vocal leads in a number of arrangements. Avi is the ONLY member of the band that has change. He left on good terms in 2017 for reasons related to conflicting demands of the band’s touring schedule and his personal/family commitments. He assisted the group in finding his replacement Matt Sallee. KEVIN OLUSOLA male, 6’1”, black, changing hair style, is known as “KO” and was asked to join PTX to provide vocal percussion after Scott watched a KZread video of him “cello boxing” (beatboxing while playing his cello). KO is the classic over achiever of the group. He plays Cello, Piano, and Saxophone all at concert levels. He graduated pre-med from Yale, speaks Spanish and spent over a year in China where he became fluent in Chinese. He sings Tenor but vocals were not his strong suite when he started so he worked with other band members and a vocal coach until while on tour he would perform the featured vocals in "if I ever fall in love", (originally performed by guest artist Jason Derulo for the album and video). He also writes and produces music both individually and for the group. So, KO is more than “just the beatboxer”. The most recent member and the only change in the group’s membership is: MATT SALLEE, male, 5’9” black with usually close-cut black hair. Matt replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017 to provide vocals, vocal bass and percussion. Matt can be heard using his exceptional upper vocal range to provide a rich tenor/baritone lead often ending with a slide down to a deep bass punch. Things you need to know because if you get these wrong Pentaholics will come after you with pitch forks and torches! 1- There is NO Auto-Tune; what you hear is actually what they sing. They really are that good. The only exception is they may deliberately use Auto-Tune when they cover songs where it was used in the original and is key to the sound of that song. An example is "90's Dance Medley" when they use it in Cher’s, “Believe”. 2- What produces everything that you hear in the video, you see in the video. If there is an instrument used in the music, you see it on screen. Enjoy the ride.

This is an A capella group which means no instruments. The tall blond guy is Scott Hoying-Baritone (several ranges); the girl is Kirsten Maldonado, Mezzo-Soprano; the guy with the hat is Mitch Grassi, Counter-Tenor; the bearded guy with the turban is Avi Kaplan, Basso-Profundo, and the Beatboxer is Kevin Olusola who is a Tenor, Cellist, Cellist-Beatboxer. Scott, Kirsten, and Mitch met in a high school in Arlington, TX (between Dallas and Ft. Worth, TX), After graduation they went to different colleges and majored in music. They got together for a tv singing competition called "Sing-Off" but had to be a 5 person group, so Avi and Kevin came on by referrals. Penta is Latin for 5, Tonix for tones, sooo 5Tones = Penta Tonix, affectionally known as PTX. Where they are in the video is the California Mojave Desert.

Welcome to the wonder of Pentatonix!! Some info for you Scott (1st singer) is a baritone with a huge range, he takes over the bass when Avi is singing. Avi (2nd, beanie) is the bass and has blown speakers with his voice during performances (shown on KZread). Kirstin/Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty) is the alto/mezzo soprano and can go really high too. Then you have the wonder that is Mitch (hat) - he has a range that will blow you away and yes he can go far higher than that too! Finally you have Kevin - the most incredible beatboxer you'll ever hear and he's also a classical cellist who's played Carnegie Hall! Avi left the group on very amicable terms in 2017 and helped find his replacement, Matt, who is also awesome. They do originals as well as covers - you have 10 years of back catalogue to go through, including 3 that won them Grammies! I recomment Daft Punk to blow you out of the water next - filmed in one of their kitchens on a $400 budget and won them their first Grammy. They have a rule that they never do anything in a video/recording they can't do live - and there's plenty of live performances on KZread (incl Hallelujah) to prove it :) Even the prop used my Mitch in Bohemian Rhapsody is just that, a prop, not actually used (not going to give it away). You can't pick a bad song so literally pick anything and try it - you'll find your subscriptions go up hugely! Pentaholics are loyal, welcoming, and supportive. Be aware the record label is tough on copyright so you may want to add a filter to the video in your reactions as this seems to help - don't worry, none of us will mind as we've seen the videos many, many times before. Welcome to the rabbit hole of PTX and thanks for a great reaction!! I'm subscribing in the hope of more :D

Loved the 'Mitch Face' - the guy with the hat and the angelic voice.... they have covers, originals, Christmas songs - they make everything they do - better... I like their covers better than the original versions, their original songs are beautiful and meaningful - Avi (Mr Beard) is haunting, Mitch (the hat) is just incredible, Kevin, the beatboxer is insanely talented, Kirsty is wonderful and Scott (the first blonde guy) is also amazing in his range and ability - I have subbed in hope that you react to more PTX (Pentatonix). Shortly before he passed, Leonard Cohen heard Pentatonix cover of his song. He said it was the best cover he had ever heard. The gentleman who started the song off is Scott and he's a baritone the gentleman in the beanie is avo and he is a basso profundo and has been Known to blow speakers out he can sing so deep When he is Singing Scott takes over the Bass. Then there's Kirsty who's a mezzo soprano and the gentleman with the hat is Mitch. Mitch is a countertenor and can sing even higher than that. There is a video on KZread Titled Mitch grassi range You get to hear him singing All of the different notes and octaves And I really don't know what any of that means but You do get to here Him at every point in his range. Pentatonix does mostly do covers. In February they released an album entitled the lucky ones and it is all original music. Then they just put out a 90s dance melody. Pentatonix never does a song that they cannot reproduce Live what they did For the official video. There is a live version of hallelujah I think the video is titled a Pentatonix holiday special. Kevin is the beat boxer and he Is a world class cello player. . He has performed at Carnegie hall. In some videos he is playing the cello while beatboxing. He calls this cello boxIng. He plays the saxophone and the keyboard. He speaks fluent mandarin and graduated premed from Yale. Avi is a classically trained Opera singer. Kevin did not know he could sing when he joined Pentatonix but avi taught him how to sing. He doesn't sing often And he is a tenor. Since you enjoyed hallelujah which is Religious Song check out Amazing grace. In 2017 he leaves Pentatonix for personal reasons and on good terms with Pentatonix and helps to find his replacement matt. he now has a solo career Check out change on the rise. Every word you hear Every sound you hear every note you hear was all done by avi. Keep doing Pentatonix reactions and the Pentaholics will flock to you. We are a Fiercely Loyal and protective group of fans. Mitch and Scott have a side project titled super fruit And Kevin has his own channel called KO. Check out his cover of Down by Marion hill. Avi left in 2017 due to the rigors of the group's schedule, and his mom was sick while they were touring, so he helped find his replacement, Matt Sallee. You will see Matt in any videos from 2018 or later. Matt had big shoes to fill, but he's such a talented performer in his own right, and now he's totally part of the PTX family

The thing I love most about Pentatonix is that they regularly sing outside of their swim lanes. They will hand off notes and parts to one another to allow the other to step forward for melody, and then hand back. Or when the sound needs more bass, Scott will switch to Bass. Or when there needs to be more Beatbox extended or layered effects, everyone will jump in and back up Kevin. Sometimes when Kevin is on non-tonal beats, he'll hum to provide additional chord backup to weaker tones, as the arrangement requires. They don't sing 'parts', they sing the song.

Try their originals like "Sing" and their new EP called "The Lucky Ones" with 11 original songs. I liked your reaction to their "Wall of Sound" when they all sang Hallelujah together. When Avi (Ah-vee), the bass with the beard, sings, Scott, the tall one who is a baritone, fills in with the bass. Mitch, the counter-tenor, with the hat, sings as high as their mezzo soprano, Kirstie (rhymes with thirsty). Kevin, their beat boxer, is an amazing musician. He plays the cello, sax, and piano. If you continue to react to them, Mitch's look changes a lot as does Kirstie's. Avi quit in 2017 for family reasons and replaced himself with Matt, also an amazing bass.

First singer Scott, mostly songs baritone, but also has a huge range, can sing tenor and takes over the bass line like in this song. Second, Avi, sings bass, but also as you see hear has a nice higher range. He can sing exceedingly low and has been known to blow out speakers due to his low notes. He left the group in 2017. Was replaced by Matt. The only change in the group’s history. Third singer and only female, Kirstin sings mezzo-soprano. She changes her hair color a lot so a lot of people don’t always recognize her in other videos, but it is her! Fourth singer, Mitch, tenor. He also changes his appearance a lot. Hair is different in almost every video. If you think it’s a new guy, it’s not. It’s Mitch with the voice of an angel. Kevin, is the beat boxer of the group, but he also has a beautiful tenor voice, can play the cello and saxophone, speaks mandarin, and graduated pre-med from Yale. The group sings original music as well as covers. Most of them also have solo music.

Welcome to the new world of a capella. Pentatonix and Home Free have rewritten the book on a capella worldwide. All of the suggestions for more songs to listen to are great. Pentatonix has 3 Grammys, one for their "Daft Punk Medley" (Daft Punk), one for their "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (Tchaikovsky), and one for basically being Dolly Parton's backup band(?) on "Jolene". Also, try "Imagine" (John Lennon), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Queen), "Mad World" (Tears for Fears), any of their Christmas music, and of course anything else. For Home Free may I recommend their "Man of Constant Sorrow", "Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash), American Pie W/Don McLean" (Don McLean), my favorite, "Helplessly Hoping" (Crosby, Stills & Nash) (and then a quarantined Italian Youth Choir's cover of Home Free's arrangement), any of their Christmas music, and of course anything else.

I just loved your face when you got "Mitch Slapped" in the 4th verse. Mitch is an incredible vocalist I believe his range a 5 and a half to 6 octaves. I know he can hit A1. Scott the baritone (tall and gorgeous)and Avi the classically trained basso-profundo (beanie guy) also have amazing ranges and they all re enforce each other. Kirstin the Mezzo Soprano is so good she can sound as delicate as a feather and belt with the best of them. Kevin the beat boxer/tenor has more talent in his little finger than a hundred other pop stars. What always blows me away it how effortlessly they blend. They can sing anything from hymns (Amazing Grace - revalotory) to EDM/dubstep (Love Again* or DaftPunk medley - first grammy) to classic rock (Bohemian Rhapsody - Brian May even lauded it) to heartfelt ballads (Run to You* or Mad World) to classical instrumentals (Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy - second grammy) and everything in between. (gave you a mix of their covers an original* music there)

I have watched Pentatonix since they appeared on 'Sing Off', which they won. The group has grown and improved over the years. Avi the bass, left amicably to pursue his own career. He helped them find Matt Salle, his replacement. Scott, the first singer, is listed as baritone but has an enormous range that he uses to cover bass when needed. Mitch, the counter tenor, has a huge range also. Kristin, the mezzo soprano, and Mitch also cover each others parts when needed. Kevin the beat boxer, also sings and has a beautiful tenor voice that you'll see more in later videos. The more you watch, the more you'll get hooked! Their first grammy was in 2015 for 'Daft Punk', which was filmed in a closet for $400. The 2nd was in 2016 for 'Sugar Plum Fairy'. The 3rd was in 2017 for 'Jolene' with Dolly Parton. Their concerts are always sold out and they are prolific in releasing new music. From the beginning, Pentatonix hasn't received the respect they deserve. The sad thing is, the industry doesn't know what to do with them and therefore their music doesn't get nominated for grammys as it should. I'm sure this is disheartening for them.
