  • @kristaphipps6932

Kevin actually takes part in the rap portion of "Problem", speaking & beatboxing AT THE SAME TIME. "Talented" is such a mediocre description of this dude! Truly, he's a phenom. And he's not even my favorite (well, actually, they're all my favorites). Each is a phenom in her or his own right. I'll quit now; Pentaholics can go on and on about their . . . quality. Oh, yeah. A cover that doesn't get that much review is "Come Along". Get the lyrics before listening to it - there are Alice in Wonderland references that won't be decipherable without prior review. It's a fun cover and the bass (Matt, in this case) & beatboxer, Kevin, hold a GREAT rhythm that most people would swear was a drum set. BTW, Avi was the bass in "Hallelujah" but left, amicably, in about 2018 for personal reasons. Avi helped find his replacement, Matt. Matt & Kevin are the rhythm foundation. All of the group members have formidable vocal ranges. Scott (tallest, blond) for instance, is reported to have a four octave range between bass & medium tenor; Mitch, rumored to have a five octave range, from high baritone to crazy high contra tenor & changes appearance frequently; Kristen or Kirstie, is a mezzo soprano & also changes her appearance frequently; Kevin is the beat boxer, who doesn't harmonize as frequently as the others but when he does, his range extends from a high baritone to a beautiful, sweet tenor; I think I've covered Avi & Matt already. Sorry! I just saw the length of this comment. Enthused much?!! That's what many Pentaholics are like. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

"Do they do Christmas Music?"... I about fell out of my chair laughing. Just a few songs here and there...LOL. I think they have more Christmas songs than Bing Crosby. They do all of the classics and then some. I would check out their 2nd Grammy Award winning "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy", it is a piece made for instruments with no voices that they do with voices and no instruments, not one word, it is amazing!! Also, there was no additional instruments, they made all of those sounds using their voices, hands, chest, and feet. If you watch their live version, you can see they have no instruments. Kevin is amazingly talented. He sings, beatboxes, plays the cello, can layer is stuff on the fly. He, is simply the definition of talent. If you want an original, you should check out "Love Again".

Common thread with all new reactors to PTX that choose this song as their first song...1) No instruments? 2) Avi looks like Jesus, 3) Jaw drop when Mitch comes in and 4) They are so good!. Look forward to watching you go down the rabbit hole that is Pentatonix. My suggestions: Covers - Bohemian Rhapsody, Sound of Silence, Shallow, Daft Punk Medley (won Grammy); Originals - Be My Eyes, Ain't Misbehavin', Sing; Christmas - Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (won Grammy), Mary Did you Know, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman. To be honest, anything you choose to react to, you won't be disappointed.

Pentatonix is probably the best a capella group of many excellent ones. My favorite acapella group, but I’m also a big fan of Home Free. In Pentatonix Kevin is the beat boxer, but also is arguably the the most talented. He also plays the cello while beatboxing, played in Carnegie hall at age 17. And is a graduate of Yale. I loved you Mitch moment when he showed of his countertenor range. Scott, Kirstin and Mitch sang as a trio in high school and picked up Avi and Kevin for the Sing Off competition and have been together ever since with the exception of Avi the bass who was replaced by Matt when Avi’s mother became ill.

Kevin Olusola (KO) is unfairly talented. His beatboxing is second to none. In this piece he's keeping three separate beats (feet, hands, vocal) at the same time. Additionally, he plays Cello and Sax (no sax on any PTX pieces I've seen though) so well that he was invited to play Carnegie Hall as a teen at least twice (once for each). He also plays piano, drums, and probably some other stuff. His voice is also incredible. We don't hear it often with the group because he's busy holding down the beats, but when he does sing, it's like the sky has parted and the angels are serenading us. Check out his solo works called 'KOvers'. "Down" and "Sign of the Times" especially showcase his talent. He's producing those live, looping himself as he goes to make it fuller and allowing him to have his own complex accompaniment.

Christmas: they won a Grammy for their arrangement of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. It is incredible and so fun! But I also have to SUPER RECOMMEND their brand new Christmas album. This song (Hallelujah) is so incredible and powerful and has been probably my favorite song...but now Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) off the new album is just absolutely stellar!! The whole thing is amazing. P.s. - the beatboxer, Kevin, DOES sing! He also is a classically trained cellist (who has played Carnegie Hall) and invented Celloboxing - beatboxing over cello. He has his own side project with amazing music coming out! He is crazy talented and smart. Increcible guy.

This is on a PTX Christmas album. One of 6. Their newest Christmas album came out a week ago. You have to listen to Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) from that album. These People are outstanding in their vocals. Doesn't matter what they sing it is all good. All different genres but every year or two they do another Christmas one. A list would be sooo long. Mary Did You Know, is a classic by them, Carol Of The Bells, Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy (Won a Grammy for) O Come All Ye Faithful Covers: Then there is Bohemian Rhapsody (Cover of Queen) Imagine (John Lennon) Sound Of Silence (Paul Simon of, Simon and Garfunkle) Daft Punk (Medley Of Daft Punk Band) New Rules x Are You That Somebody Havana Originals: Happy Now Be My Eyes Love Again Run To You That is a list to get you started. there are a lot more and experiences you will never regret hearing!

Each member has such a wide vocal range it allows for creative surprising arrangements, which is why many love their covers better than the original. Welcome! Amazing Grace by Pentatonix from their current Christmas album is real fire. They have since changed one member, the bass Avi - Jesus in a beanie, with Matt new bass with the sweetest smile. Whether it's an official video or being the scenes stuff like jamming on the fly, you have a 9 year spam to draw from and that's not even counting their solo projects. I always like to recommend me reactors go check out their performances on the Sing Off, live performances (terrible choreo, lol) and great judge critiques. It's awesome to see their come up.

They’re not as strict for copyright on their older songs like this, but very strict on their newer ones. Even then, you can typically go about 30 seconds between pauses as long as you rewind a little before starting again. Definitely want to see you do more Pentatonix.

To get a since of their versatility consider they have 3 Grammies. There first was for a Daft Punk medley, electro pop. The second was for the Carol of the Bells, a Christmas carol and the third was for a collaboration with Dolly Parton doing Jolien

Their copyright holder is pretty anal, so stopping is recommended. Judging other reactions, you could get by with longer playtime between breaks, and the breaks could be shorter too. Oh, Kevin (the beatboxer) sings too. And plays cello. And sax. And composes and arranges. And speaks fluent Chinese (Mandarin). And has a pre-med degree from Yale.
