Reiner watched Marcel get eaten in front of him when he was saved by him. Reiner lost Annie and she has crystallized herself and is trapped and guarded by the military police. Bertolt was eaten and killed by Armin. Reiner was the only one that had came back from Paradis Island even though he sees himself as the weakest which further increases his guilt.

Eren and Reiner are the two faces of the same coin, that's why they showed that Eren's scene right after Reiner's. Glad Ron catched that, it's great. Btw, this season is 4 years after Shiganshina battle so Reiner is 21 and Eren is 19.

@@izzr6181 The whole episode as the show itself has always shown they're the two sides of the same coin. Also, I think you missed the meaning of Eren scene, he had no worries at the start, just as Reiner before of becoming a soldier bc his mom told him about the eldian story, what the marleyans think about them and what happened with his father. Even so, there's a reason why they showed Armin coming with the book at the end of the scene and not Eren just doing nothing, that day Eren showed him his book, he told him about the outside world, that's the day Eren meets his goal in life and gets full of anger when he notices they're trapped and their freedom was taken away from them, since that day he wanted to beat titans, was mad at everyone for being okay with being trapped forever, wanted to join the survey corps even when he knows majority of them dies every time they go out bc titans are eating them, he fights people that makes fun of those dying for that goal. Eren also grown up in a shitty and fucked up situation, he didn't have a childhood with no worries even if he joined the army at 12 and not at 7 like Reiner, they both suffered in their own ways but they both did and you can see how similar they are even in the opposite sides.

Eren and Reiner are so much alike despite their different circumstances. Reiner grew up being molded to be a soldier and hate the island's demons, and he did what he did in the name of saving humanity. A counterpoint to Eren, who did what he did because he was just born that way. That is his merciless and punitive nature. No one taught, coerced or forced him to be what he became. It was simply natural and on behalf of only those who mattered to him. Two sides of the same coin. Same actions and different motives.

It just blows my mind to think back from Eren, Mikasa, and Armin's point of view of the attack, the monstrous destructive Titans were in fact controlled by kids who were barely older than them. It really hits different when you see kid Reiner in action from within the Armored Titan. It’s just like they said back in Season 2; “We were just kids, we didn’t know anything.”

Fun fact: The story that man told to Annie, Berth and Reiner about opening his window just to find a titan right in front of him when wall Maria fell, it's the same story Bertholdt tells Armin and Eren back in season 1 to tell them about "his" experience when the wall fell since they told everyone they were from wall Maria so their infiltration could be believed (since bc of the titans many ppl's records got lost so it would make sense for the goverment to be unable to find some info about them).

Reiner is immortal, the more he wants to die the longer he has to live.

To explain Kenny and Annie's scene: As Annie said she was spying in the capital (bc they were trying to get info and find the king that they thought still had the founder, not knowing Grisha stole it), so it looks like Annie was finally close to the royal family since she found Kenny (remember that Kenny worked for Historia's dad and was a close friend of Uri, Historia's uncle? So being close to him was being close to the royal family), even so Kenny is super good so when Annie is following him he catches her and she has to make an excuse about why she was behind him, so she mades that up about him being her dad and she wanting to meet him so she wouldn't have to tell the actual reason why she was following him. She says she can get closer when Kenny is there bc he's better than her and already saw her face, it was too risky, that's why they couldn't go there anymore but that was just before they broke wall Rose, time when they found out Eren was a titan shifter and realised he became their target. Kenny obviously can't be Annie's dad once you see it from a logical way bc, even after what I explained, you also have the fact that she was born in Marley and he lived his whole life in Paradis, we have also seen Annie's dad in some flashbacks in season 1 and Kenny himself said he would never let a prostitute pregnant as Annie's story was saying since he promised that to his sister (Levi's mom who was a prostitute who got pregnant from one of her clients).

Guys, back in season 3 we had the confirmation that the serum is just the spinal fluid of a titan shifter, no one created it. It means that if for example they take some spinal fluid of Eren or Armin (titan shifters) they could have the serum to transform ppl into pure titans bc that's all what the serum is. I think you missed that so hope this can help.

They take it from titan shifters bc the Reiss family always had one and they don't control mid titans at all and let them do whatever they want bc of the will of the first king of the walls, why would you assume they would risk themselves in a mission outside of the walls to take somehow the spinal fluid of a mid titan tying to eat them without any tool useful with someone as big as pure titans in the place of just getting the spinal fluid of a regular person in their side and family that is a shifter? It wouldn't make sense at all by any side, it's just logic, you should go against coherent thinking to believe it cames from a mid titan, especially since by that logic there wouldn't be a way for thr first mid titans to be created.

The war did start after Reiner got back. This takes place 4 years after Armin got the colossal, and about 3 years after the gang sees the ocean for the first time

THIS DOESN'T CONTAIN SPOILERS, I PROMISE 17:21 Right there when Annie wakes up, there were several panels cut from the manga.. Right after Reiner was choking Annie, she didn't passed out and decided to continue the mission, to accomplish that she transformed to take Reiner and Berth to the wall of Shiganshina, but they were still very far so Annie run quite a long distance, plus there were normal/pure titans chasing them. When they were close enough to the wall (Shiganshina) Reiner transformed to switch with Annie (cause she was about to pass out) and hold her to protect her from the titans, then he placed Berth at the bottom of the wall, transformed into colossal, destroid the gates of the wall (what we saw in season 1), when the gate was destroyed Reiner took Berth and placed him and Annie on the top of the wall (he climbed it) so they could be safe, then he got to the gate of wall Maria, destroid it (again, what we saw in season 1). And last, we see Annie waking up at the shelter, where Eren, Armin and Mikasa were too 20:10 it didn't happen like that, keep in mind that the very first titan appeared 2000 years ago, Ymir Fritz who lived 13 years with her powers and then split it into the 9 titans we know, so the first beast titan, female titan, armored titan, etc. lived almost 2000 years ago.. *NOW, another important event you have to remember is the GREAT TITAN WAR, which happen 80 years ago and which the marleyans "won" and allowed them to have most of the shifters under their control, those shifters are the ones who are sided with Marley, the ones Marley acquired 80 years ago when the great titan war ended* Btw Falco's voice actor is the same as Tanjiro

Before the time jump Reiner was 17 and now he's 21, meaning ppl as Jean, Eren, Connie, Historia, Armin and Mikasa are now 19 in this season (Sasha is one year older so she is 20). Yeah, Reiner always looked older then he actually was.

it wasn’t “the Marleyans” it was that one fat guy we saw be an asshole already. Most don’t want to associate with Eldians at all but he’s someone that goes out of his way to antagonize them for laughs

"To save humanity" in total different meanings.

Some details for you: -Eldians from Marley are fed propaganda making them believe that their people are monsters and have to absolve their sins of the past. They hate people from Paradis because of think there just living out their life peacefully knowing the sins they did (but in actuality, Paradis got their memories wiped) -Annie and Marcel took turns carrying them to the wall. Since Marcel died, Annie did all the running and called the Pure Titans along the way. That's why she was asleep during the raid in Shiganshina (details cut from the manga) -Bertholdt used the backstory of the man who hanged himeself and used it as his own when Eren and Armin asked why he joined the military back in Season 1 Episode 2 -Annie was tailing Kenny cuz she was gathering info regarding the Founding Titan. She got close enough that she was able to connect kenny and the Reiss family. She lied to Kenny about him being her Father cuz she needed to run away from the situation but Kenny knew she was lying cuz he made a promise to Levi's mom that he won't father a bastard -Speaking of the hanged man, Bertholdt's sleeping position is the same image of The Hanged Man Tarot Card. The card signifies unhappiness in one's own situation or uncertainty of the path that should be taken. -Additionally, the sleeping position is a callback to the time to when Berthodldt was on Reiner's neck and the gang was asking why him and Reiner betrayed them in Season 2. They were reminiscing that when they were cadets, they used to tell the weather based off how the way he slept on bed

Reiner used Marcel's personality in Paradise, thats why he acted as a big brother there. Back to his homeland, he feels like hes nothing, a garbage enough to make him an attempt suicide. You can see in his facial's expression hes in another phase after the deep depression. You can see he hate himself deep and can see color, only grey

Not sure if you caught that, but kid Reiner is voiced by Itadori Yuuji’s VA 🥹❤️ made me love him even more

The warrior candidates do it all for their families, if one of them becomes a Titan, their families get several benefits. It is pretty clear that they themselves sometimes are a bit afraid and unwilling to take the burden and reduce their life spans.

Now when you see the episode , "Warrior" 2x6, Reiner does say " what did we know, we were just kids" and now it hits hard. Also, in this episode, the story which is being told to Reiner and Bert by that man at the campfire is the same story which Bert tells to Eren and his gang at the training camp, on how Berts village was attacked by Titans.

The Annie-Kenny interaction signifies how close they got to the Founding Titan. Remember Kenny works for the Reiss family.

bro I just realized Reiner was so good at their training drills with Eren and them, not just because he was big, but because he'd done it all before

Praying for the next 3 episode to drop like season 3 🙏. "Cries in broke" 😭

For you to understand the time jump, the fight in Shiganshina was 4 years ago so it is 4 years after what's season 1 to 3 (last episode of season 3, when they get to the ocean, had a time jump of one year but season 4 is 3 years after that, which means 4 years after the regular timeline we have had for almost the entire show).

Annie's first appearance is actually on S01E02 when people were gathering to get ransom/bread after Shigashina fell. I was hoping to get Kenny scream again because I knew he appeared again in this episode, but I guess it's not the timing for it 😂 And btw, young Reiner VA's is Itadori Yuji from JJK. You gonna develop skill of noticing character from their VA's as you watch lots of anime.

Apparently, life inside the walls allowed Reiner to thrive. He went from being the runt in his group to a well built soldier in the training camps.

Poor Reiner is broken on so many levels. He risked his life on a mission in order to become an Honorary Marleyan and secure the future of his family, his Marleyan father doesn't give a sh*t about him, he realized that him becoming a Warrior in the first place was literally a mistake which crushed all his hope, the very same friend who gave him the Warrior position sacrificed his life for him, he realized his entire mission forced him to massacre innocent people and he was brainwashed his whole life, he had no choice but to complete the mission or else his family would suffer the consequences, he carried extreme guilt from being the one to drive the others to continue the mission, and even worse, he was the only one to return home.

Annie, Berth and Reiner know that if a titan eats another it gains its power bc that's how they got theirs and it's well known information for the marleyan army since that helps them with their mission and in general they have to know all the info they have. In season 3 Hange says that the reason why Reiner was throwing titans at them in season 2 finale was bc he knew they couldn't capture Eren so he had the hope one of those pure titans would eat him getting his power to have an easy target to capture since they were already desesperated

To answer Ron question without spoilers, last season it was said that Marley defeated king fritz (who had the founder titan at the time) making him running away to the island with some of his people while letting others behind where Marley was, in this moment they also took control of 7 out of the 9 titan shifters. This means they didn't convince them to fight for them, they were defeated by them (how Marley defeated the 9 titans? we don't know that yet and I won't spoil). After that the marleyans put all the eldians under their control, they were racist with them, blamed them for what their people and king did, put them in camps and, well, it's just as Germany did things back in the second world's war, that's how brainwashing happens in war, they were destroyed and were put under the control of someone way stronger than them in their most vulnerable moment, that was 100 years ago (they said past season in Grisha's memories and it's the time ppl in the walls have been there) so imagine how they are now after all that time. That's how they can do whatever they want with them, even train children for war and brainwashing them enough to have a titan and still fight on their side against their blood and race in the walls.

I'm surprised they didn't notice Eren in the previous episode.

The time line have been showed in episode one's dialogue, if u pay attention to that. The war in episode one is happened 4 yesars after season 3.

Eren was in the line-up of war vets that freaked out when the Marleyan yelled "BOOM" last episode.

@19:39 Season 3, Episode 21 answered a bit that already. Not everything Grandpa Yeager was teaching young Grisha in that book was Marley propaganda. The fluid is just titan spinal fluid. Major Gross explained this to Grisha. "Look. That is your people's true form. All it takes is some titan spinal fluid and you turn into gigantic monsters."

bro the serum is spinal fluid, the first king initially made his daughters eat the Ymir, hence passing her body fluids to them and giving them the titan ability, I'm sure with Marley's technology they can easily extract some of the spinal fluid and use it as a serum for the next gen of warriors

This episode for me is the most important episode to understand the psychology of AOT. What people don't understand it's that reiner and all his friends were just kids, they were brainwashed to think that in Paradis there is nothing else than a bunch of demons who kill, murder and do all the worst crimes imaginable every day. So i can't really blame them. It's like if someone ask you to kill kim jong un to free north korea i don't think someone will hesitate but if you do that realize that he wasn't bad you'll probably feel so guilty like reiner. Peace start only when you understand that your enemy is just a human like you. If you have never did that you will always see him like a monster.

It's been a bit since the episodes came out, but I appreciate you guys keeping the thumbnail vague.

actually zeke told reiner at the first episode, that the war happened because of their lost to paradis 4 years ago. it`s been four years since their battle versus the survey corps at shiganshina. after that battle 1 year passed and they finally went to the sea (Season 3 finale). so it`s been 3 years since that finale episode of season 3. hope you understand my point, I`m not really good at explaining things.

Keep in mind that titans have been around for a long time. That's plenty of time to learn how they transform. The guy also mentions in Grisha's flashback that they just inject them with titan spinal fluid and they change.

The Armored Titan is often beaten now, but it was really invincible before inventions of anti-titan arms.

In case you didn't notice, the story that Berthold was told about the old man who saw the titan when he opened the window, it's the same story he told Eren in episode 1x3 when he asked them where were they from, when Bert told that story Reiner looked at him and said "Why are you bringing that up?" And Bert apologized 🤯

The story that the villager told Annie, Reiner & Bertolt was the exact story Reiner and Bertolt told Eren and Armin when they asked where were they from.

I have seen many aot reactions and lots of people also thought that Kenny was Annie's dad😂

Regarding Eren's leg, remember Reiner didn't heal his arm Season 2 episode 6 on the wall until he decided to activate his titan regeneration. Therefore, we can surmise Eren's leg doesn't heal until he activates his titan regeneration.

I'ma say this since y'all forgot. It was shown with Reiner that you can control the titan shifters healing factor. Remember Reiner hurt his arm back in season 2 and it didn't heal until he healed it right before he transformed. In other words you can control if your healing or not.

They already explained this though (it's easy to miss), and said that they lost the Collosal 3 years ago. So that war started 1 year before Reiner, Vertholdt and Zeke were defeated. So it's been a 3 year time-skip.
