Did Barry beat out McCartney??? I hadn’t heard! All three brothers are in the top ten along with Lenon and McCartney. I heard, Barry was also #2 for most songs produced, just behind George Martin. Really amazing. It made being relegated as just a “Disco group” all the more shocking. As a whole, as artists, songwriters, and producers, they really are in a class of their own.

Barry wrote this for Otis Redding to record, but Otis died in a plane crash before he could do so, so the Bee Gees did it themselves. What is notable about this song iis that Maurice takes the high harmony at the end of the song, Maurice normally sang the low register, but he he could switch to any register, so that his brothers could do their thing..

They will tell you they are an R&B group & never were "disco." Those Saturday Night Fever songs that were used had already been written before the movie was filmed. I didn’t get that she said Barry wrote all their songs. All 3 were great songwriters…but I read that Barry was considered the force behind their songwriting because in the beginning when they were smaller, he did write everything; then as the twins got older, Robin started, then Maurice. Nobody can ignore that they were fantastic. I just think Barry wrote more hit songs for other artists that Robin and Maurice wasn’t a part of and that Barry was credited as the only GIBB (like: Andy’s I just want to be your everything; Everlasting Love; Grease for Frankie Valli…and more.) This is not to take anything away from Robin & Maurice cause I would put them up there with anyone regarding songwriting proficiency! They were absolutely great!❤ Put the 3 of them together and they were unbeatable in their writing!

  • @lauraallen55

She said 'exclusively' so that sounds a lot like that he wrote all their songs, to me. I just get tires of people acting like Barry was the only brother that achieved anything, and that Maurice and Robin were just along for the ride, and to back him up. There are a lot of people who do this. Some even go so far a to make disrespectful comments about the other two Bee Gees. @@Sandra6411

Seeing Barry this young really takes me back to MY favorite BeeGee growing up, their youngest brother Andy Gibb who sadly passed away at the young age of 30 from heart damage from cocaine abuse 😞💞

Harri, you are spot on about the Bee Gees being amongst the most prolific. They set many new chart records in their day. Barry's career has spanned over 60 years. In 1994, he was inducted into the Songeriters Hall of Fame with his brothers. In '97, as a member of the Bee Gees, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Barry also received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. He has also produced albums with other great stars, Barbra Streisand among them.

Barry didn't write the Bee Gees songs. All three of them wrote them, predominantly Robin actually.

The statue of Bee Gees in Douglas, Isle of Man, was installed in 2021. Born on the Isle of Man to English parents, the Gibb brothers lived in Chorlton, Manchester, England until the late 1950s. There, in 1955, they formed the skiffle/rock and roll group the Rattlesnakes. The family then moved to Redcliffe, in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia, and then to Cribb Island.

What I love about The Bee Gees’ performance of this song is that it showcases what a versatile band they were, respectfully outside of the dominance of the disco sound they perfected for themselves in the late 1970’s.

I have often wondered about Barry's voice in all its greatness. And not about his falsetto. I am asking all you music scholars to explain what my ears are hearing. At the end of Barry's amazing vibrattos, at times, it sounds like he is in an echo chamber. That's the best way to describe it.....what am I hearing because it is natural, no synth or autotune? Is it my imagination or what???❤❤❤❤❤Bee Gees rule.

Just to be clear. This did no go number 1 in the us or anywhere as I remember. Their 1’st US number 1 was How Can You Mend A Broken Heart from 1971, and Massachusetts was the first in UK in 1967. It is however one of their most coveres songs.
