Thank you for your wonderful comment. You can see that the lead guitarist and bassist are amazing, but please also understand how amazing the drummer is. These three are world-class performers. The chorus is also top-notch, so this group can be said to be one of the top rock groups in the world right now. Please enjoy.🤩

The best thing to happen to music since someone in a cave started slapping a stick on a log. This band has it all, talent, creativity, dynamics, charisma and killer tunes and they are ultra professional while still being goofy, enjoy your B-M journey you wont regret it, cheers from Nth Queensland 👍🍻🍻

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. I love them...lalala! PS 3:25 - The founder of the band and main lyricist, Miku on rhythm guitar, deliberately chose the maid outfits because she had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear - otherwise known as Cognitive Dissonance. There is also another concept called "The Gap" in Band-Maid's songs which Kanami, the lead guitarist and main song composer, uses when creating Band-Maid's music. She once described it as "The Gap is about verse and chorus. In most Band-Maid’s songs, the verse is usually made for the instrumental part to shine, to showcase musicianship, while the chorus, in contrast, is made for the vocal part and the melody to shine. This ‘gap’ provides an interesting journey for listeners when enjoying our songs."

“OH MY GOD! That was ridiculous!” Yes. Yes it was. Thank you for reacting to our maids. And welcome to the music of BAND-MAID! And the BAND-MAID pigeon hole is deep! You’ve only scratched the surface of the tour de force which is BAND-MAID! Five sweet young ladies that will melt your face! Choose any of their songs - you can’t go wrong! I’d recommend: THRILL (their first music video) CHOOSE ME MANNERS No God REAL EXISTENCE Secret Maiko Lips (using traditional Japanese Maiko dresses and makeup) From Now On (a blistering instrumental!) More BAND-MAID please!

The band founder, Miku Kobato, had worked in Japanese maid cafes. She was in a short-lived idol group as singer/dancer. She told her talent agency she wanted to found a rock band with a maid look. She was going for the contrast between their look and their music, the "gap" as she calls it. Her agency already had another group, with the theme of an airline crew, Passpo, so they were open to the idea. They advertised for musicians to join the band but Miku went looking herself. She found the guitarist Kanami on-line who was a singer/songwriter. Kanami in turn suggested the drummer Akane who she had done some gigs with. Akane in turn suggested her classmate at music school, Misa, a bassist. So the band started as those 4 with Miku as the singer. But Miku wanted a singer with voice more suitable for rock. Her agency had another singer, Saiki, who they auditioned. They did not tell her about the maid costumes at first. So this became the final lineup 11 years ago. The agency wanted one of them to hold a guitar which Saiki refused to do so Miku did. She couldn't play it, but gradually with Kanami as her instructor she became a solid rhythm guitarist. If you watch their 1st MV "Thrill" you will see she really isn't playing it. The costumes are also very stereotypical French maid outfits but Saiki and Misa didn't like them so their look evolved away from that though they are clearly costumes not street clothes. Kanami is the chief composer, and Miku is the chief lyricist though the lyrics for this song Hate? were written by Saiki. They also have some Miku singing only songs and instrumentals. Initially they weren't allowed to record their own compositions, the agency hired songwriters. Their 1st album, Maid in Japan, was not a big success so the agency was thinking of shutting them down. But they were allowed to do the video for "Thrill" and a western Facebook page that covered Japanese music posted it and it blew-up. Saved the band. They still weren't allowed record their own music until the song "Alone" on their 3rd album. They now have over 130 songs, 7 albums and several EPs and singles, with a new album coming this year.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

I loved your reactions to Band-Maid's "Hate?" The look of surprise and joy on your face was apparent that you enjoyed the music of my favorite rock band in the world. It's the look that many old geezers (like me) got the first time we saw this band (usually on KZread). The "gap" from what we saw and what we heard for the first time was amazing. Attractive young women, wearing cute maid outfits and playing hard rock with such excellence was, well, mind-altering! The live video of "Hate?" that your reacted to was shot at approximately 2 1/2 hours in their 3 1/2 hour 10th Anniversary tour finale in Yokohama, Japan last November. The band's energy and joy for playing their music was obvious during the concert. The enthusiasm of the audience was also apparent. These five amazingly gifted, humble, and kind young Japanese women is slowing being exposed to the world after the very restrictive large audience and travel shutdowns in Japan from the Covid pandemic the last 2 years. They have about 40 million subscribers to their Band-Maid channel on KZread with over 200 million views of their official music and live music videos from the channel. Fair warning, now that your reaction to Band-Maid is on KZread, you will be inundated with requests from the legions of Band-Maid fans (we call ourselves Maidiacs) giving you suggestions of what song to listen to next. (Fortunately, you will get a ton of new subscribers to your channel). For your next reaction, you can take two paths. You can start with "Thrill" the official music video, that saved the group from being disbanded and launched their careers or you can react to "Bestie", the band's most recent official music video release composed and recording in collaboration with Mike Einziger of the rock band Incubus. Neither path will be in the wrong direction and quite joyful. Welcome to the world of Band-Maid!!!!!

Another Band-Maid video of high musicianship is "From Now On" (official music video). There is also another bass-lead guitar battle in the official live video of "Don't You Tell Me". If you had the captions on, you would notice how caustic the lyrics of "Hate?" are. The lead singer, who wrote the words, was reacting to a man that cheated on his partner -- who happened to be a friend of the Band-Maid lead singer. So the song is full of lyrics like "I don't care if you die out!" Saiki (the lead singer) was NOT impressed by his cheating!

Welcome, Swifty. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 200 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5inmclsfZCanLQ.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYB2waeJg5eeeKg.html) And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. kzread.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts:  2023 Yokohama 10th Year Anniversary Concert “Endless Story” kzread.info/dash/bejne/jJVl24-LgrnKZ5M.html  ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” kzread.info/dash/bejne/oHWYudCCgs2tkc4.html  Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5ats6WDnpnYico.html  ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6WF0K2CfLWbpZM.html  Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD. And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:  Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dpust4-Ghs3akZM.html  See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJ6OzbCen6rTmMY.html If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, live streams, CD, DVD/BD & merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out:  "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009  Band-Maid MIDI covers: www.youtube.com/@DeanF_MIDI  Reimagined compositions of Band-Maid songs: www.youtube.com/@fxdxmusic Band-Maid Members: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “StarQueen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. My three favorite quotes from Band Maid's earlier years (circa 2015-2017) {I heard each of these quotes uttered): 1) "C'mon, these women aren't really playing their own instruments, are they?!" (Well, let's see...Misa, Akane and Kanami are universally considered to be world-class rock musicians; Saiki has been favorably compared to Amy Lee and Pat Benatar; group founder Miku couldn't even play a guitar when the band started in 2013, but is now held to be a very solid rhythm guitarist -- yeah, it might be them playing...it was at the concerts that I attended on each of their four North American tours); 2) "They'll never be able to keep this up -- women have no stamina!" They have now been playing as a band for over 10 years. The concert that this "video" came from was over 3 1/2 hours long and they played 33 songs. They SEEM to have a bit of stamina.... 3) "They use every cliche in the book [i.e. they lack creativity]." Yep, they wasted all of those years gaining full control of their creative process (e.g. lyrics, composition, arrangement, playing [technical skills], a significant degree of the post-production process). All of the awards will have to go back now. Band Maid Forever!!!!!

Here is the first section of a text file I post for people who are new to the Ladies of Band-Maid. I have much more of the file if you are interested. Band Maid Is; (In order of joining band) Name/Age: Nickname: Position: Miku Kobato Small Pigeon/ Band Founder, Secondary Lead Vocalist, Rhythm Guitarist, Main Lyricist, Age: 32 Koba/Kuruppo/ Backing Vocals, Backing Tracks, Arrangements 10/21/91 Cluppo Kanami Tono Princess/ Lead Guitarist, Primary Composer, Backing Vocals, Piano, Keyboards, Backing Age: 32 Kanamincho/ Tracks, Backing Vocals on Backing Tracks, Arrangements 9/28/91 Mincho Akane Hirose Gorilla/ Drums, Percussion, Backing Vocals on Backing Tracks, Backing Tracks, Age: 33 Ah-Chan Arrangements 12/14/90 MISA Barefoot Assassin/ 5 String Bass Guitar, Backing Vocals on Backing Tracks, Backing Tracks, Age: 31 MISA-MISA-MISA Arrangements 10/15/92 Saiki Atsumi Ice Queen/ Primary Lead Vocalist, Backing Vocals, Lyricist, Piano, Backing Vocals on Age: 30 Sai-Chan/ Backing Tracks, Backing tracks, Arrangements 2/8/94 Sensei (Teacher) Again, I do have much information available about the Ladies if you would like to know. Now about this song. This was recorded at the Yokohama Arena last November at the 2023 Tour Finale, and also their 10th year anniversary. And as you mentioned, you didn't think what you were seeing was matching what you are hearing. And that is actually intentional. In the rest of the file I have much more information about that. So if you would like the rest please just leave a reply to this comment. Now you have started on a journey of discovery, the Ladies have over 130 songs in their discography, not including "Alternate" versions, which this version of Hate? is. Also on their channel they have an OLV from this same concert of Don't you tell ME, which is also an alternate version. With alternate versions, the Ladies have over 160 songs in their discography. How many band do you know that can put out over 130 songs in 10 years, let alone over 160?

@@TehPhysics Of course. Here we go with the rest of that particular file. Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku had her agency contact her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and there is 2 versions of this, the first is, Kanami literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her, the second is Kanami called Akane and asked her. (Akane has said in 2 different interviews that 1: Kanami called her and asked if she could come over and 2: in a second interview Kanami just came over) Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. The 3 of them then "Auditioned" for the record company and passed the audition. Now we have the "Core" members. The 4 members worked out some songs provided for them by the record company, and a setlist and they had performed 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. They then auditioned several singers. Miku heard Saiki rehearsing in a room across the hall and asked if she could be auditioned, the record company then had Saiki audition. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. She had been a member of a group with 8 other people as a backup singer and dancer, and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool/cute Clothes"(I've read it translated either way), and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until the day before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. (Saiki also had NEVER met Miku until then as well) So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which failed to chart, but later after "Thrill" it was reissued and charted to #26 in Japan. Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. (Little known fact, Miku helped with the lyrics on Thrill but did not get credited) This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album charted at #64, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band. MISA had also just started working with Mochi to Cheese as well). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their KZread channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid.

Welcome to Band Maid, new Princess 👸 The guitars look huge because our Maids are so little. But what they lack in stature, they make up for in awesomeness My Band Maid playlist competes with my Van Halen, Eagles, Prince, and Rush. They have as many good songs as the best that’s ever been. “DICE,” is classic Band Maid. For another live performance with their previous uniform 🥋 iterations? Nothing like “Play,” official live video. There’s a terrific musical intro section before they get into the song itself

Nice reaction, as you will find out these ladies have a huge catalogue of great songs of all different styles. In this song the lyrics are great as well.Watch with CC on. Normally the lyrics are written by Miku the second guitarist and vocalist, and they tend to be poetical, a bit philisophical and melodic. This song the vocals were written by the vocalist Saiki, and they are much more direct. Here she is expressing her contempt and dislike for guys that cheat. One line in particular is a real put down for a guy "10 minutes of limp gymnastics).

Congratulations, you jumped right in the deep end. They may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles, and they are top-tier musicians. I saw many of the classic rock bands - Purple, Zeppelin, Queen, Santana, many more, all in their heyday. I’ve seen Band-maid three times and their performances stand up to any of those legendary bands. You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band: Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual shred. The band was struggling early on, and in 2014, even as the label was considering dropping them, they posted the music video for “Thrill” which went viral globally. When they realized what was going on, it gave them the momentum to forge ahead, and they have now done multiple tours of Europe and the U.S. and are building a global fanbase who call themselves the Maidiacs. They have released seven full albums, as well as several EPs, singles and music videos. They have put out around 170 songs, covering a wide variety of styles and sounds, without any duds. They combine a punk vibe with instrumental virtuosity (two things that are often seen as being incompatible), and have done some amazing progressive-rock songs and ballads with a metal edge to them. They toured the U.S. in 2022 and sold out 14 cities in less than 48 hours. They followed it up with a 2023 tour which had to be expanded from their original plans. Their fan base skews heavily to actual practicing musicians. Some of those followed the band to multiple dates and documented everything on youtube-some of the footage is hilarious. I’ve seen them in 2019, 2022 and 2023. Their shows are truly life-reaffirming. So far no announcements of another European tour but it seems likely in 2024. Band-Maid are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio. Everything they have posted from their 10thAnniversary concert in Yokohama is absolute fire-I have bought the DVD and recommend you do too. 33 songs, 3 hours of insanity. (You just watched their most popular clip from that concert.) Here are more links, to older performances: Freedom (Feb 14 2020) kzread.info/dash/bejne/eHyk16eqfaTJdMo.html Domination (Feb 14 2020) kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5ats6WDnpnYico.html Choose Me (Feb 14 2020) kzread.info/dash/bejne/epely9abiMrPl7g.html Onset (Instrumental-insane!) kzread.info/dash/bejne/n4qmsI-jj7jJYLg.html And an official MV, one of their most popular: Daydreaming (it’s a slower ballad, gorgeous and truly heart-wrenching): kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHeVx7ekoqzaqbw.html If you want more background, I suggest you react to this classic interview. It's hilarious, it's insightful, you will learn their names for good, and their cuteness will destroy your brain. Oh, and they are completely nuts. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hGiE0cisgbzdnpc.html

Welcome to the BandMaid experience! The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts: •Bass solos are more likely to happen than not. There's a bass solo on their very first video! •Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be •Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen. •Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that. •April Fools Day 2019 As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful. •The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis (after playing less than 10 yrs) •There is no "I" in BANDMAID. Well ok there is one "I" but my point is the songs are written by BandMaid. Not just Kanami Tono. The highly innovative bass and drum lines are created by Akane and MISA. There are no George songs and John&Paul songs. There are only BandMaid songs. •10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both. •Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese. Most songs are full of joy as well. •They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other. •Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.

Yaaaay .... another Aussie jumpin on the BAND MAID Train. I've been following these guys for approx 4 years and they are all I ever listen too. Just brilliant song writers / musicians / performers and all round beautiful people who think of their fans as much as each other. Hard rock / prog rock / bluesy rock / rock ballads etc etc, they do it all an every (every) song becomes your favorite - they just don't have an ordinary song. This one was 27 of a 33 song concert they played at Yokohama Arena recently. I'm the first one to say "forget about the sub-titles - just enjoy the music" but when you get a chance, go back an listen to this in your own time with the subs on - you'll love it even more haha. In saying that, can I suggest you do "Endless Story" - the finale to this awesome concert - leave the subs on for this an you might get a tear in your eye haha. South coast? I'm in Western Vic. There are particularly four or five bands that usually get recommended as a package of the most elite Japanese female rock and metal bands. Those are LOVEBITES, Nemophila, Hanabie, Aldious, and of course, Band-Maid. Band-Maid tends more toward the hard rock side of things. while the others are primarily metal. There is also BABYMETAL, which I highly recommend, though they are an entirely different and unique concept - a J-pop vocal and dance group that is backed by a heavy metal band, blending J-pop Idol aesthetics with heavy metal music. Those five bands (or six, counting BABYMETAL) are a great starting point for the journey into the very rich and deep world of Japanese female rock and metal, and there are plenty more bands to also look at: Trident, Fate Gear, Bridear, Broken by the Scream, Lonesome Blue, Glim Spanky, Gacharic Spin, Mary's Blood, and so many more!

Band maid is my favorite hard rock band. They write their own music as well for the last 7 years or so. There talent with those instruments they bring to the live stage, they really can play that well and not many bands can do live all that well. If you want more Metal, nemophila is the choice, another group of women and they are pretty much equally talented, plus they have a lot of covers of western classic rock songs on their youtube. You mentioned kpop, this is not a rock group but Mamamoo is known in korea as the the best of the best for vocals, those 4 solo or in the group are as good vocally as band maid's musicians are, with their claim to fame being they bring the vocals to live performances, so good you almost cant tell the difference between recorded and live. Another solid group in Korea for rock is Dreamcatcher, they are not musicians but do great rock songs. Back to japan, pretty much everyone loves baby metal. They started at the ages of 12 years, many videos are from when they were 16 or so, insane seeing them own crowds that large in places like england, now they are 25 and the songs are even better. Their Kami band is also up with the best of the best for musicians.

Yeah, BAND-MAID is another level. And they have 100 bangers. So, you have to do for a while to react to them all 😀 BTW - listen to the song again with captions on. Its worth it for this song. Usually they are uplifting and nice, but here the singer do not like a certain person. I am 100% sure you also will love Lovebites, which is a heavy metal all female band. They have a very diverse repertoar and also have 100 bangers. Recommendations: * Holy War : 2020 in Zepp Diver City, Tokyo. * Hammer of Wrath : the official live version. * A frozen Serenade : the official live version. There is so much more, but you can start there. There is harder stuff that Japanese ladies do. I am not sure you are interested, but if you are, here are two groups * Nemophila * Hanabie I can give you hints on songs if you are interested.

These are NOT divas. These women appreciate and love their fans. They have written songs directly for their fans. Please be sure to find the English subtitles for the fan tribute songs. If you love lyrics, most Japanese rock/ metal wilm be uplifting, spiritual and empowering. (Umm, the doom metal band lyrics are of course doomy, ha ha.) Welcome to Japan, the land that worships the Rock and Metal Gods; they do not forget the original creators. Btw, excellent jazz too.

Maybe it's time to meet 5 beautiful ladies in high heels and dresses playing classic heavy metal? For starters, I recommend the song Break the Wall from their earlier albums. Boasting over 70 hit singles, they won Best New Metal Band at the Metal Hammer Awards in 2018. The girls play heavy, thrash, power and prog metal, they also have some beautiful ballads. Ok, you're on a mission? Here goes The List: Japan has had an active all-girl rock and metal scene since at least 1981. This is a starter list of all-female (or in eight cases, mixed gender) metal, punk, hard-rock and post-rock bands, with founding dates where I know them. It's alphabetical, except for the first three, which are at the top of the list for historical reasons. They set the table for the explosion of Japanese female hard-rock, punk and metal bands. Note: I have tried to pick clips that are high quality and are representative of the band's style. (This is too long for one comment, so look for Part 2 as well.) If you put the question out there, you are likely to get suggestions mainly for Aldious, Band-Maid, Babymetal, Lovebites, Nemophila, Unlucky Morpheus and Wagakki Band. You can’t go wrong with any of those, but find time to check out more of the bands on this list. They are all worth the time and deserve the love, and many will really surprise you. My personal favorites include Asterism, Bridear, Doll$Boxx/Gacharic Spin, existTtrace, Hagane, Hanabie, Mary’s Blood, Sokoninaru and Tricot. Ok, the list: Show-Ya (1981 The original female J-metal band, founded before Metallica-this is from their 24th (!) anniversary concert-and they are still touring) They have a strong Deep Purple vibe, and in my view they belong in any rock or music hall of fame: “I am the Storm” kzread.info/dash/bejne/oX6Tl6mvY9msmrQ.html Shonen Knife (1981 The world’s first bubblegum punk band. They have done several world tours, and opened for Nirvana, who were big fans. They also perform as a Ramones tribute band called Osaka Ramones): kzread.info/dash/bejne/qW2At86SqrLPh9Y.html Destrose (2005; This band was never stable, but has become almost mythic in metal history, because they spun off so many great bands, including Lovebites--you will recognize the drummer and bassist.) Here are two clips-a lot of them get taken down so please let me know if either of these is dead: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fKSt3LilgK2pYso.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2F3qo9_fLaYm7A.html (This cuts off just after Narumi’s guitar solo-but they didn’t cut that, and it’s gorgeous.) Aldious (2008 Glamorous and kick-ass rockers-one of the first generation all-girl metal bands, along with Destrose) kzread.info/dash/bejne/pZqfrLZpotXHXZs.html Asterism (2013 Power trio that will melt your face off- the guitarist Haruka Noma is off the charts talented and just turned 21) kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5qsr8tpctuaqJM.html Babymetal (2010 The flagship “Kawaii metal” band and the most well-known Japanese metal act outside of Japan. Combining “Kawaii” (cute) Japanese pop tropes over thunderous heavy metal backing) kzread.info/dash/bejne/lX9nsK-Tcbixd9o.html Band-Maid (2013 OK, there are 160+ great songs by them. Easily the best known band on this list other than Babymetal, they are more hard rock and prog than metal. Did a 14 city US tour in 2022 that sold out 48 hours after being listed, and a 2023 global 10th anniversary tour. There is a ton of fan footage of that tour up on youtube, a lot of which is great stuff.) Here is a live clip: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eHyk16eqfaTJdMo.html Bridear (2011 Heavy, technical-and their tiny bassist also growls. They are releasing a new album in June 2024 that is a real killer): kzread.info/dash/bejne/foV9ptOulKrFdLQ.html Cyntia (2011 Second wave, hard, heavy, but with prog and symphonic touches) kzread.info/dash/bejne/eKKcscShZczFY7g.html D-Drive (2009 Instrumental progressive metal and fusion; Mixed gender. Extraordinary, technical dual lead guitars featuring Yuki and Seiji) Here is a one of my favorites, a spectacular, moody jazz-blues-prog fusion number: kzread.info/dash/bejne/n2l7ldCRete5qrQ.html Disqualia (2015 Destrose spin-out, featuring Narumi, one of the best guitarists of this generation, and Hazuki, then an up-and-coming talent who is now a core member of Nemophila) kzread.info/dash/bejne/X4Fp3KSEorewgso.html Doll$Boxx (2012 Wild mix of metal, electropop, and god-knows what else; a collaboration between Fuki, best-known as the co-founder of Unlucky Morpheus, and Gacharic Spin) kzread.info/dash/bejne/n6lm3JaOlpy6l8Y.html East of Eden (2023 Supergroup assembled by Ayasa, the fabulous violinist whose day job is with Morphonica, one of the BangDream projects. Guitar: Yuki from D-Drive; Drums: Mizuki from Lonesome Blue; Bass: Wakazaemon, from Marty Friedman’s band; Vocals: Minato Akane, from Predia) “Evolve” kzread.info/dash/bejne/mYBmqbOQmK3HfrQ.html existTtrace (2003: Visual Kei, progressive, technical, some death-metal and goth touches) They have kept their original lineup intact for 20 years and counting. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ga5lrthxiKqodpM.html Fate Gear (2015 Super-group, one of the Destrose spinouts-continually changing lineup built around Mina (g) and (until very recently) Erica (b); I consider this video one of the best on this list): kzread.info/dash/bejne/poCFxNWoe7S0XZM.html Gacharic Spin (2009 Founded by two high school classmates, Hana (Dr, Vo, multiple instruments) and Koga (B) who had already been in other bands (and was previously a lingerie model). Everything from punk-pop to heavy metal and progressive; highly technical) Here is their first video, with original singer Armmy (d. 2015): kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJquq9ZrYMLeiMo.html Gallhammer (2003 Black/Death/Doom/Punk; this is from their 2007 UK/Europe tour; co-founder Vivien Slaughter is now making electronic ambient music!): kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJqIy9uIf5TUiqg.html Galmet (2006 Straight-up death metal, but in prom dresses) kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqKq1LGFlbXaXaw.html Ganglion (2010 Metal with a hint of electronica): kzread.info/dash/bejne/o22eltZsfdaTg8o.html Hagane (2018 Started with Sakura posting blistering metal guitar covers on youtube while in high-school, and the rest of the girls finding her; full lineup came together in 2019. (note: sadly, the group just disbanded in early 2023) Here, Sakura does a magical solo using a Phrygian scale at warp speed: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWyCtrSDj9y6qLw.html Hanabie (2019 Kawaii death metal, deathcore, thrash. Technical. Most frequent comment is “That’s nuts.” One of the bands to watch over the next few years, they are playing three North American festivals in 2023.) kzread.info/dash/bejne/eWVs29uvgKbPhLA.html Kakumei (2013--see Trident, below) Lisa-X Band (Prodigy 16-year-old guitarist Lisa-X and a rotating cast of fellow bandmembers, often including Hazuki (of Disqualia and Nemophila). kzread.info/dash/bejne/n4KT0a6qhM7HZrA.html Lonesome Blue (2021 Progressive rock, pop-metal fusion. This was Narumi’s (see below) long-awaited new band; unfortunately it looks like they have disbanded after only one album.) This song is a wild fusion of classic Disco with Metal: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k3mY26d-nrC6qZs.html Lovebites (2016 Modern Power, Speed, Thrash and Heavy Metal. Already making a global splash, melodic but face-meltingly technical. Here is their most famous official MV-it’s even better than Shadowmaker IMO) kzread.info/dash/bejne/moB6x86CaZa8m7A.html Mardelas (2014 Another spin-off from Destrose; mixed male/female; leader Marina Hebiishi has one of the best voices in the biz) kzread.info/dash/bejne/iZhsspmwhNG9etY.html Mary's Blood (2008 The first major Destrose spin-out; Jedi-level lineup.) Here, Saki murders her guitar without breaking any nails: kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4CBlNenhpPRp7g.html Maximum the Hormone (1998 Crazy, chaotic mashups of deathcore, nu-metal, pop and high-speed rapping. Co-founder Nao (drums) is the female member of the band. She has been a major influence on female drummers throughout Japan.) This clip captures just a bit of the madness: 予襲復讐 (Yoshu Fukushu) kzread.info/dash/bejne/lJmCl8epZbDYlLw.html MergingMoon (2010 Mix of prog and melodic death metal. Vocalist U is Japan’s terrifying answer to Tatiana of Jinjer) kzread.info/dash/bejne/pX2Aj9igeLG1pZM.html Muses (2020 Hard fusion with funk overtones; Supergroup assembled by the guitarist, Rie aka Suzaku, and including Juna Serita, the phenomenal bassist who was previously with Tokyo Groove Jyoshi and is now also with the Jazz Avengers. They absolutely rip. kzread.info/dash/bejne/l6yWq7t8hLTKoNI.html Mutant Monster (2008 Punk-pop, really good at it. Loads of talent here. My preferences tend to go a little heavier, but I do like this song. For other Japanese bands, I highly recommend Babymetal, Lovebites, and Nemophila. I've occasionally heard a few others, but those are my favorites.

Please check out NEMOPHILA they are heavier than BAND-MAID but just as good. Ama tee ras or Rise would be a good place to start. The new BRIDEAR song Still Burning isn't bad I like the drumming. BAND-MAID have well over 100 songs including acoustic versions of existing songs and songs that are acoustic only. The early BAND-MAID songs should not be avoided because this band was great from the start. Not every song has a film clip but you can do some Kate Bush style interpretive dancing or something. The NEMOPHILA singer is married with a baby and the NEMOPHILA drummer is married with two very small children. But don't be fooled by their family values because they really rock out. Korean band Rolling Quartz have a few good songs and they are coming to Australia 🇦🇺 I think in September but only to Melbourne and Sydney and that's fair enough because I have yet to meet any one else who knows who they are.
