To add some context: ABBA used to consist of two married couples, the lead singer in the video (Agneta Fältskog) was married to the dude on the guitar (Björn Ulvaeus), and the brunette singer (Anni-Frid Lyngstad) was married to the bearded dude on the piano (Benny Andersson). At this point, both marriages had basically failed, and you can hear in most of ABBA's music of this last period deals with heartache and broken relationships. So the dudes wrote music about breaking up with their wives, which was sung by said wives. Must have been some Fleetwood Mac level of painful music production.

In fact since bjorn wrote these lyrics it makes me think he experienced these feelings, not that he was trying to torture her. You can even see in this video his eyes look a bit watery...I think the initial pain of the split and perhaps both seeing each other with new partners for the first time and how that felt while adjusting to the change for both parties was his inspiration for this song. The story behind this song is truly heartbreaking!! The singer Agnetha, was married to the guitarist. They had a pretty rocky marriage. She had been dealing with alot of mental issues, and had gotten to the point where she wanted out of the band, to be with their children. Her husband was more concern with the band. They ended up divorcing, he remarried, and was expecting a baby, wrote this song. And wanted to record it before his child was born!!! If you watch the music video. You will see the pain in Agnetha's eyes!!! It's real and very raw!!! This is just one of my favorite songs from Abba. And it's one that makes me teared up every time!!!

Pure vocals, neutral - no oversinging, no vocal gymnastics, no ghetto r&b vocals. The material - true songs and compositions, artistic merit, musical content, variations in the songs, a message, melody and even sensitivity. Abba have been a part of my life since 1974. My parents took me to their concert when they toured in Australia in 1977. I was 7 years old. They have just recently recorded 3 songs together in the studio (after about 28 years!) for a virtual tour which I have been anxiously waiting to be released. But there has been some delay. Abba is the love of my life, they have always been there for me. ❤️

I dont believe they were actually "influential". By all accounts they brought nothing new to music. They just perfected the form. Someone like the sex pistols (absolutely massively influential... yet not a single award) or kraftwerk... possibly one (if not the) most influential group in history creating two brand new styles of music along with the Beatles or Elvis. If music "styles" were vehicles (cars, trains, planes etc) then ABBA would be a Ferrari, a bullet train or a supersonic fighter jet. But it's the Benz motorwagan, Trevithics steam engine or Wright brothers "flyer" that were the creators.

@@dawn6320 That was the gossip; actually Björn and Agnetha became estranged from each other (mostly because of the pressure by success what made the introverted Agnetha's downer tough), then Agnetha and the kids left him and he started to date with her "younger alterego", a journalist called Lena Kallersjö (around a week later). A half year later Björn confessed to Frida a quite alike state: he cheated her with a (bit younger and similar looking) TV reporter, Mona Nörklit. The women tried to move on too with more or less success. This and the global political and social issues had a strong effect on the final completed album, The Visitors and the subsequent singles which would lead up the next album what has never been made.

You can't categorize what genre they fall into because they turned to so many differing types of music.
