Hey @titotheraccoon people. I had about 12 raccoons that would come to the back of my cabin every night for about 8 months. Then one day they magically stopped coming. I have a house in the woods with closet neighbor about a quarter mile away. They stopped coming after the 1st snow we got. Anyone who knows raccoon behavior know if they moved somewhere for the winter or any other options. My only neighbor said theh didnt set any traps. Thanks in advance

I have to hand it to you. You are the top, number one, numero uno raccoon benefactor, care giver, papa that I have ever encountered. Dedication. You have invested more time, resources, and love into Tito and Cheeto's care and well being both emotionally and environmental, as well as dietary and exercise mentally and physically, than anyone that I have ever seen. You provide them a life full of enrichment. You have even surpassed public institutions such as zoo's and that is a difficult hurdle to surmount. I think I've told you already that I had a raccoon as a lad in Iowa. He ripped my throat open completely unintentionally. I was wearing a candy necklace. My Dad let it go and I was heartbroken. Every year after, we had new babies in our tree. He never forgot me and I could hear him calling me from the tree at night. I would sleep with my bed pushed up to the window and he would climb onto the porch roof and lick my hand pressed up against the screen. He was totally sorry.

Then there’s this other one that is mostly black. In fact, his tail is solid black with no stripes and you can barely make out a “mask” over his eyes. His body has some gray in it but very little. Pretty much everything you said might be right but my little girl just passed away Dec 14 after 7 yrs none of those characteristics describe her, she didn't tear things up, she was never aggressive, didn't leave my side, she listened when I would say get down or no, she only went on her puppy pads, all in all I always treated her like a kid and she behaved like one so maybe it was the time dedicated to her or maybe she was just unique which makes the loss more painful. What state are you in that you are allowed to keep yours? What permits did you have to get? Make a video on that because for me the hardest thing was having to always have that looming that she could be confiscated and killed yet I see lots of videos on KZread but no one ever answers that question!!

We acquired our 1st racoon almost dead on the dirt road. She was a baby, but had a hard time wearing her from the bottle. The other 2 were in a tree someone cut down in the city, they call my fiance racoon man, so guess what they showed up with tiny babies brother and sister, sister is the one who wont leave the house. So the older one and younger one are outside. Wish I knew were they are, but hoping their surving outside.

I don't have a pet raccoon but I do try to support and protect every raccoon in the swamp... I won't say which swamp but it is one of the south's largest.

I kind of have a question that I'm unsure that will ever be answered, but what do you normally feed Piper and Cheeto as their main diet? Like their normal food, not treats.

We feed ours dry dog food as was recommended by our vet over 30 years ago. He said they could have cat food, but over the long run ( 8-15 years) that they would develop kidney issues due to the high ash content in the cat food. We did lose a 8 year old male to liver failure in 2006 due to the Chinese dog food issue that year. We now only feed purina or Rachel Ray chicken based foods. Most of our babies have lived well into their teens.

It’s never easy losing them. My 10 year old buddy boy is going any day now as I type this. He was a rehab that we let go. He came back the 1st time all beat up from a fight and spent a month recouping with me on my bed. We got him all fixed up , rewormed and let him go his way again only to have him show up a couple of months later again weak and dehydrated. Due to his gentle nature we fixed him up again and told him he could stay. Except for not being neutered he has been a good house guest since. He only gets crazy for one month a year but then he’s back to his gentle ways. He took a liking to a female yearling this summer and they love to play with each other. She is going to be so lonely when he passes☹️

    • 2:55 - Far too many people are stupid/ignorant and think that domesticated animals/pets will just survive in the wild "because nature" and "because instincts". 🤦 Then again, those are the same people who think fish breathe water and then wonder why the goldfish they put in a small bowl dies after a few days. IT DROWNED. 😒 • 3:16 - Raccoons are as ill-suited to be pets as foxes are, but worse because of their dexterity. • It sucks that we can't always have the pets we'd like, but it's important to do what's in the animals' best interests rather than our own desires. • So Tito never came home? 😕 Hopefully it's because he started a family. 🤞

Hmmmm, I have over 25 years of "raccoon" experience. They do not make good pets, they're more like 3 year old children with sharp teeth and claws and an insatiable curiosity to figure out how things work and what things are made of. Which can result in conflict with their "human pets" as we don't much like having our hallway carpets pulled up and our living room furniture taken back to sticks! That said, these are the most wonderful sweet love-able playful caring creatures you can ever have in your fur-family! They need their own space and their own activities, for when you aren't around to entertain them. If you can't bare the thought of bleeding, you don't need a raccoon in your life because as I mentioned they have really sharp non-retractable claws and sharp teeth (and a short temper to go with all that)... if you have a raccoon fur-kid, you will bleed on occasion until the kid gets you well trained! If you just want a pet, buy a goldfish... these guys aren't a fashion statement, they're not a "cool pet", they're essentially a small child in fact! But there is nothing that even comes close to a raccoon who loves his or her "pet human". Kisses kisses kisses hair grooming and more kisses every day! Just saying from experience. ps. Raccoons do not "become mean", they do however grow into adult raccoons and have adult raccoon hormones every springtime thru about mid-summer.... some get extremely temperamental when their hormones surge every year and may turn on you at times they literally cannot help themselves, others may just get a little whiny then go back to their normal fun loving selves; if the raccoon gets aggressive from early spring thru mid-summer, a trip to the vet and a snipping of unnecessary equipment may be in order but if it only gets a bit whiny that may not be necessary for it's happiness as part of your family. Finally, you cannot take an adult wild raccoon and make it a "pet" (or furry-family member) so just don't go out looking for one please you will only get yourself hurt and the raccoon miserable if not dead! Raccoons are a huge blessing in fact, I cannot imagine life without them!
