Improve the defense and the goalies get better. Their defense sucks,needs big changes. They should be looking to trade to get better.

Yzerman mistakes have been signing veterans to bad contracts instead of getting some of the youth on the ice. That doesn’t include Kane, the one guy that was a great value. He has to let loose of some veteran players. Probably stuck with Copp and Petry because one is way over paid and the other is a bargain because Montreal is paying half his salary.

To answer Kenny’s question of Where is the rest of the money going? They have to re-sign Lucas, Raymond and Moritz Seider. That’s where the money is going.

If we can get Guentzel with decent term with a plus defender (or resign ghost/keep Kane), lock up Mo and Ray for 8x8 contracts I can be happy with that.

stamkos is coming for 4 years at 5.5, kaner signes for 3 at 4.5, and then steve signs a defenseman for 5. Mo and raymond get a 8x8

They cannot go into next Season with Holl, Chiarat, Petry, and Maatta on the payroll. Send Holl and one of the other Defenseman to the Rangers for Trouba. New York will Buy out Holl, because it'll be cheaper than buying out Trouba. We'll get a nasty, heavy hitting Defenseman that Teams will be afraid of. No one is scared of this D Corps and they will need to keep their head up with Trouba. Haven't had anyone like him since Kronwall.

Maatta was their most dependable D-man all season long, game in and game out. He's got one year left on a 3mil deal. Hes a good second pair and a top 3rd pair.

@@joseeduardo4327 obviously they can that is what they do in the Minor leagues - NHL shooters are an entirely different animal . And goalies when you draft them are mostly on athleticism they do not get a lot of really refined coaching and technique . so they learn that in the minors - hopefully improving . IF you put them in before they are ready and they get pummeled - and confidence gets crushed the chances of them making go down big time . That is what has happened with Husso - he played on a very good defensive team in St Louis - he was used to taking certain type of shots. He came to Detroit- he was confident - solid - attacked shooters - but their defense is so bad as the season went on - he was taking shots he had never encountered before - and it has rocked him - he is not going to get that confidence back unless he gets to a team that has a solid defense in front of him again . - when you see shots - you just see a quantity - a number but it does not tell the story of where and what type - that is the difference and why this red wings team is NOT good .

I love how these guys really talk like they know more than Steve. I don't mind your opinion but stop acting like you are correct. Just because you wanted him to do it, does not make it right. People think all other gms are just waiting to make a deal with us. Stop it. Steve is building it the right way. All some of you want is a playoff exit in the first round smh

So you guys are. N't taking into consideration that anaheim would likely retain some if not half of gibsons salary as well as husso being shipped off as well. It's such a shortsighted and illogical approach the way you look at the trades

Not to burst everybody’s bubble, but signing Stamkos is pretty unrealistic by itself. The $32m in cap space is misleading. When you do the numbers, you’ll have roughly $11m of cap space to fill 5 roster spots.

John Gibson is not the answer, Yzerman keeps bringing in these mediocre backup goalies and trying to make them into starters, and it’s not working. Would rather have Guentzel than Stamkos though.

Walman is not elite by any means but still was one of the Wings better defensemen at certain points last season and likely still had some trade value. Maybe Stevie knows something was wrong with him that most of us don’t, but giving up a 2nd along with him for nothing is still baffling knowing the Sharks would have claimed him off waivers anyways. But yeah I have questioned Kenny’s hockey knowledge for a while now, at one point this season he said the Blues were a terrible team, which i mean they actually finished a point or two better than the Wings who he had predicted making the playoffs.

these losers that are all over Walman - are a joke - he was a give away for St Louis had a decent 1/2 season - got an extension - and played poorly after that - he was healthy scratched last year during a playoff run - . They only like him because he danced - there are plenty of gay bars that you can go to and see all of that you want .
