Would you go out?? Sandy Beach Hawaii

Big surf hitting Sandy Beach Shore break in Oahu, Hawaii! This was filmed at 7/14/2019. Ala Moana Bowls and the whole South Shore was going off with huge barrels and heavy drops and wipeouts. After filming Ala Moana Bowls, I decided to take a drive to the East @ Sandy Beach thinking that Sandys will be firing also. As you can see.. it was! Not a lot of surfers, Body Surfers and Body Boarders out charging, but whoever did go out that day
you are gnarly. It was great to watch, and many of you guys scored! Huge barrlels, fun drops. Major shoutout to the surfer who went over the falls. That was heavy!
I hope there is another huge summer swell coming.
Thank you for watching Micah Surf Videos. This KZread channel is focused on showing you the amazing Waves and Surfers of Hawaii. I feel very lucky to be able to surf these
waves everyday and I want to show viewers the great waves that we have to offer. There are many casual, non sponsored surfers who surf these waves perfectly, I want to show the surfing world of their talent. Stay tuned!

Even on smaller days, that spot looks deceptively calm. The regulars make it look easy, but when you actually get in the water, it's just chaos. Tons of water moving around, current like you wouldn't believe, and surprise sets that make you wish you just stayed on shore.

Me and a buddy were in Oahu for a week and didn't really plan anything, just got in the rental car and would stop when we saw something cool. We saw a nice beach with a lot of pretty ladies and decided to hangout for a bit. Saw the warning signs and thought, well there's a lot of people in the water, many younger than me (I was early 20s) and figured what the hell. I felt like I was in a washing machine. Those waves rag dolled me every time I got in the water. I finally saw that the locals were diving into the waves and swimming out of the other side. So I tried that. Must have timed it wrong because the wave caught my upper body and flipped me, slamming me into the sand and washing me onto the shore. Well I took that one as "welp, I guess the ocean doesn't want me coming into this part and called it a day. Laid out on the beach the rest of the time and hoped to see some non locals do some dumb stuff like myself. Much respect to the ocean and the people that can ride it. That beach scares me, but I still love the memory.

🤙I grew up on nearby Portlock Rd looking across to see Diamond Head. My favorite nearby body surfing beaches were Sandy and Makapu'u. Sandy, of course, is really exciting and can be really dangerous because the waves are driven by the trade winds and can break in shallow water (2 feet)! One time I landed on my head. Awe! I got our and went to Queen's Hospital where a body surfer doctor felt my neck and with a hand on my chin and my neck twisted my neck. I heard a loud pop and my vision disappeared momentarily but seemed forever. The doctor told me I almost died! I'm now 85 living in Bend. Oregon, and have yet to grow up.

This brings back both good and bad memories...I got "pantsed" by one of those gnarly waves, luckily I still had boxers on underneath. I had to go to the closest surf shop with a towel wrapped around my waist to get new board shorts. I never could make it past that first set of waves, and took it as a sign to stop trying after the beach consumed my shorts and spit me out.

I lived there in1975, was on this beach two or three times a week. That place can be brutal. Don’t go in here unless you are in really good shape, have great swimming skills and can hold your breath for a long time. Shore breakers, they will spit you off the top of the wave if you are unlucky you will land head first and break you neck, then you can’t swim and you drown. Been there done that. Never again. Strong swimmer but I got pulled out and almost panicked. Had to be carried off after muscling my way back. Very humbling place. Came back 2 years later and the water was calm. Put one foot in and then seemed to start forming. I'm like....nope.

Last time I was there, a day not near as nasty as that, the lifeguards were strongly suggesting we tourists not go in the water. Disappointed, off we went up the coast for calmer waters. Earlier in the trip and on a calmer day I thought it would be interesting to get beyond the shore break, found myself heading with the current towards the rocks to the west... took everything I had to get back to the shore, that and a huge early breaking wave.

I did this here when I was 16 years old. It was amazing. I tried to boogey board it at first but it is so hard to paddle out against the waves with the board that you end up leaving the board and just body surfing it. You are constantly pounded into the sand which knocks the air out of you while you are under water. Kind of scary, but once you get the hang of it you can’t stop. It kind of reminds me of kill the man with the ball with a dog pile at the end. Hawaii is definitely a water sport haven. If you are a surfer you have to go.

Nope. I was here Feb 2nd-14th - month and a half ago. This beach is super sketchy. I could tell the only ones playing in the shore break were local to the island. In person its even more intimidating. This video surely doesn't do it justice.

Sandy Beach was too sandy for my taste some years back. You get sand, and lots of it everywhere. So far so no worries, but I got also sand in my ears that even after some weeks stayed there, I had to go to an ear doc to get the channels washed out. If you ask me "was it worse the trouble" I still give you a "yes, absolutely!"

cuz its fun getting slammed into the the sand bar multiple times with your boys for 6 hours straight. My first time I went there it was around 3-5 foot and I went in by myself for 3 hours and after my session i realized how many times I could've broken my neck if i didn't brace my neck with my arms when getting thrown by backwash like that guy at 2:50 lmaoooo. And also making it out the barrel which is extremely rare at sandy's is such an incredible feeling which only happened once for me so i keep on trying to make it out. Only way i made it out is because I bodyboard in cali so I wasn't completely new to the sport and I also watched a lot of videos and articles about sandys and how rough it is. Im also 15 years old
