Yeah because Shaq can defend 3 pointers, right? Even if Shaq scores 35-40/game on 60%, how is Rick Fox going to stop KD and how's Derek Fisher going to stop Steph Curry from jacking up 3s from 5 feet beyond the arc? I feel as if you're living in nostalgia and not getting a grasp of the reality of the situation. Klay vs Kobe, you would give the edge to Kobe but Klay's more efficient and can take Kobe when he's having an off night (we're talking early 2000s Kobe, not the finished article).

If the Kings almost defeated Shaq and Kobe, GSW can easily do the same. And I am a Lakers fan by the way, no reason to deny an obvious rigged series. Now, the 99-00 Lakers is the strongest version of the shaqkobe, even with a less dominant Bryant, the overall roster was stronger. Rice, Harper and AC with Horry, Fox and Fisher coming off the bench? This team is strong as hell, they have a better chance.

If a player like shaq existed today, the entire meta would be different. You will not run and control tempo against that lakers team, it wont happen. basically, they wouldnt be able to stop the lakers from playing their game while the lakers could force them to play slow half court ball. live by the 3 but the analytics dont account for shaq shooting 95%, probably not even an exaggeration. Exactly! The Lakers would live in the bonus and that means the game slows down. Shaq would gobble up the rebounds vs GSW relatively small front line and that means less transition opportunities for those open 3s. Kobe thrived in the hand check era. Do people think a young no8 Kobe wouldn't take full advantage of this no touch era? The Lakers would have to adjust to guarding the extended 3 but they had the players for that. The only thing that ever stopped the Lakers were internal, personality problems... nothing basketball related.

yup on 04 they got spanked.... but that's not the 3peat Lakers. ill take 15-1 2001 team over anybody. their one loss happened only because they had 2 weeks to wait for the finals. In regards to Horry's shot, imo it is irrelevant because teams that win championships can point to a clutch shot or pivotal moment that defined their season. Since you brought it up, ill validate it....Thanks Big Shot!!! Do i think GSW would be a tough matchup, not really. Horry on Kd. Kobe on Steph. Fish/Lue on Klay. Fox/George on Green. Kobe cuts the head off vs. Steph. Horry plays ball denial on Kd. Make Green have to score. Challenge all 3's. always go over top on screens. funnel everything to the Diesel. Be physically dominate. No open looks. On offense, have Kobe take Klay/Kd into the post and get them in early foul trouble. same with shaq. get em in the penalty early. control pace. Lakers bench kills Gsw's bench.... i dont see how they could win a game.

And if you don't think they could guard Durant you're wrong. These dudes played in a much more physical era. He'll still get his points, he's a great shooter but they'd contain him. Plus Kobe would lock down klay and little Rock would do fine on curry, people underestimate fishers defense.

Playing by the old rules the Warriors would have a real problem beating the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons. The first thing the Pistons would do is butcher Curry and Clay in game 1 so bad that they would be carried off on stretchers and taken to the nearest hospital. Curry and Clay have great shooting range but they won't be able to use it while they are recovering in a hospital. Next things would get really ugly between the Pistons Bigs and Green. Geeen would be thrown out after picking up two technical fouls with two different Piston Bigs. The Pistons will probably send a few more Golden States players to the hospital as needed. In the end the Pistons would win.

I don't know that you can make that comparison. The '99-02 Lakers played in a time where Basketball was more physical than it is today. And I happen to like the current Warriors team and I'm not going to take anything away from them. That being said, the Lakers would have destroyed them. Kobe in his prime. Shaq in his prime. Not to mention guys like Fisher, Fox, George, Hory and many more. That Lakers team was stacked with talent. On top of that, the Warriors are small and with the exception of Green, they are unable to cope with physical play which is why that team shoots long two's or stays at the three-point line. And while that is a formidable weapon, I wouldn't have been enough because that Lakers team had guys that could shoot and guys that could and would take it to the paint. The Warriors would have gotten killed on defence. That just wouldn't be fair.

Why are these old teams talked about like they're invincible? It's not like they went 82-0 and swept the playoffs, the 2000-01 Lakers were 56-26. THEY LOST 26 GAMES in the regular season. They only lost 1 in the playoffs, but so did the Warriors, and the team the Lakers lost to was basically just Allen Iverson. The Warriors lost a game to a team with LeBron and Kyrie, and it took a record-setting performance to take that one game off of them. They would not get smashed. They might not win against the Lakers, but they won't get blown out.

If we are specifically talking about the 01 Lakers, they match-up pretty amazing with these Warriors team. DFish on Curry, Kobe on Klay, Fox on Durant, and Horry on Green. pretty sure the Lakers have seen something similar against the Kings with Webber, Bibby/Williams, Jackson, Christie, Turkoglu and Peja. The Lakers beat Sac 3 straight years in the playoffs... With 01 Lakers sweeping Sac. Heck these warriors are a lot like the Blazers too. Obviously Stoudamire, Smith and Pipp aren't as good as Steph, Klay, and KD, but the Blazers front court is much stronger with Sabonis and Sheed. Then the Blazers have a much more loaded bench. Lakers beat Portland 3 straight years, including sweeping Portland in 01. Now let's talk about how the Warriors are going to stop the Lakers... They have no answer for Shaq. The Warriors have struggled guarding AD and Boogie this year, no way they have a chance of stopping Shaq. None. I don't care if they triple team, Shaq will just get position, they'll throw it up, he'll catch and then drop step dunk... At least teams like sac and Portland had Sabonis and Vlade who are solid NBA Centers. Warriors don't have anything even comparable to Vlade and Sabonis. Shaq is also surrounded by 3-point shooters from the PG-PF position. Then how are they going to stop Kobe? Klay is just going to give all his energy in guarding Kobe and won't care about scoring? Or are they going to take him out and have Iggy guard him? Sounds like they might have to go with a line-up of Steph, Klay, Iggy, Durant, and Zaza/McGee so Shaq doesn't completely destroy Draymond while they have Iggy trying to contain Kobe... But that means Draymond, their heart and defensive anchor isn't playing much? Sounds like the Lakers would still feast in that scenario. Kobe has torched Iggy his whole career pre-Achilles tear. Warriors have not seen anything like 01 Kobe or 01 Shaq, and have even struggled against guys like AD, Kyrie, DeMarcus Cousins, players that are not even on the same planet as Kobe or Shaq. While the 01 Lakers have swept loaded Blazers and Kings teams. Swept Grep Pop, David Robinson and prime Tim Duncan. Contained AI and Shaq destroyed 7'2 DPOY Mutombo. Lakers in 4 or 5.

And this idea that Derek Fisher would be a good match against Curry is just embarrasing look at what he did to Lebron and CP3 who are among the best defenders in their position, youre being delusional. The Warriors have much more to throw at them, they are not a 1-2 punch, they are a fist that can get you knock out in a matter of 3 possetions. This is the best shooting, playmaking and fast pacr team that the NBA has ever seen. Its more than the aggregate of its parts, like Greg Poppovich said in the press conference of game 4, its a very well tune engine that no matter what you do its gonna get 3 of the best shooters to have ever play basketball an open shot and they have players who can run a pick and roll, push the ball and cut at all times in the games, its fucking exhaustin to anyone. Its like running a marathon to Usain Bolt, the just have a cappability to keep going and not only never quite slowing down but going faster when youre tired. Do you really think they could fucking defend a fastbreak pushed by Draymond with KD, Curry, Thompson and Iguadala running to the other end? Im a fucking Spurs fan but you just have to know it when you see it, this is the best team ever asembled period, could they have a better center? sure. But i wouldnt be surprise if they drafted a good prospect from another country or something in this Draft.

What makes the warriors amazing isn’t that their superstars can score and dominate, it’s the fact that all of them can play off the ball and pass. That can mentally wear a team down more than iso play from a dominant player. Also, warriors bench is pretty stacked as well.

There is a detail to this. First of all if they are not fouling Shaq any time he so much as looks at the basketball, they're gonna lose. Straight up. They have to foul him, from min 1 to 48. The detail is that with the pace the Warriors play at, they don't have enough players to keep fouling Shaq and still finish the game. I was supporting against the Lakers the entire time they had Shaq back in those years and if you did not watch the Lakers back then, you can not even begin to imagine just how dominant and scary this guy was. No one even comes close to Shaq in this regard. He was absolutely unstoppable. We are talking about someone who put up nearly 30 points a game on nearly 60% FG even though he got double or tripled teamed anytime he got near the basketball for the entirety of his career. On top of this you have Kobe who's name is right up there with MJ and Lebron. Klay who? Draymond what? Man those assholes got clowned against 1 player teams with Kawhi and Lebron. The only reason they beat the Cavs this year is because Lebron needed 4-5 minute breathers each game.

Nathan so if you have draymond and javale on him the whole time, and someone from the bottom of the bench fouling him. And klay on kobe which is a nightmare for klay. Who's gonna sit curry or kd? And eventually you'll get into foul trouble in like 2 minutes and then kobe can just drive and draw fouls and kobe is a great freethrow shooter and if he drives and misses Shaq is gonna get the rebound and put it back up. So I don't think the series would be a blow out but I think it's lakers in 6 or 7

  • @bi3643

    @bi3643

Nathan that would work if Shaq was super slow, it only takes him two steps to get back to the paint and send any layup or dunk. And you'd still slow the game down by fouling Shaq on the other end. So he wouldn't be very gassed out.

The ‘01 Lakers would sweep the Warriors, how is this even a debate?? MVP Shaq would average 45+ pts & 20+ rebs against the undersized Warriors. And Kobe would go to the FT line 30 times a game if they’re playing by today’s rules. D Fisher was a great defender, so he would give Curry/Thompson problems. Horry would D up Durant. This series would a circus, much like the 2018 finals. No answer for Shaq/Kobe.

Don't think it will be a sweep. Remember, Iverson was able to hand the 2001 Lakers their only loss that entire playoffs. There are lot's of mismatches between GSW and Lakers but the obvious key factor is that GSW has no one to defend Shaq, not even a little bit. Shaq would get 50 pts every night and/or GSW runs out of players from fouling. I think GSW can definitely take 1 or even 2 games.

  • @bt3913

wuhanclan I mean, that sixers team also had Mutumbo, who is arguably one of the top 15 greatest big men of all time and who could at least somewhat hold his own against Shaq, so Iverson certainly wasn’t by himself on that team. There’s literally no one on this Warriors team who can even remotely matchup with a prime Shaq. And that’s not even incorporating Kobe into the argument. The Lakers had 2 of the top 10 greatest players of all time on the same team IN THEIR PRIMES. The Warriors can shoot all the 3s they want, but they’d be crushed on the glass and probably have not even half as many 2nd chance points per game as they currently get. The Warriors just seem great because we’re watching a 3-team league, where the only teams that even have a punchers chance to beat them are in the same conference. No teams in the East have a chance. The ‘01 Lakers swept through the Blazers, Kings, and Spurs (all better teams than the Warriors have faced) en route to the Finals.

They don't have to answer for Kobe. If the Warriors play switching up the way they do, passing, and off-ball movement...Shaq will be left behind. Sure they'll get points, but even Kobe said in his analysis that is what makes Golden State hard to defend. A pass is faster than any player going up court--even Kobe. This goes in ANY era. With the amount of passing and assists, this will be closer than many realize. Shaq will be exposed. Kobe will adjust. And the amount of threes Golden State makes is the tie-breaker. Warriors in 6.

Kaze they were favorites because of their perception of how talented they were. However this team had a lot of problems that proved to be overbearing. Kobe and Shaq weren't healthy during the season. Fox and Malone got injured too, didnt play in the finals. Then they had insanely huge internal problems. Kobe didn't want Shaq, Malone and Phil to be successful, and viceversa they didn't want him to be successful. How on earth do you win a NBA championship with that mentality.? Realistically from the beginning of the season it was going downhill, and they still started the season 18-3. If that team was healthy and didn't make a division against Kobe, they would have been the greatest team of all-time. However, how everything ended up playing out, they got lucky Cassell got injured in conf finals because they should have lost to the T-Wolves.

If you are Kerr and the Warriors, the Warriors have nobody who can slow down Shaq, BUT you can put him on the line all night. The Lakers have no one who can slow down the 6' 11" KD, and the Lakers don't have enough D to stop the Warriors from draining 15-20 3's. Warriors double Kobe, foul Shaq, and beat the Lakers with long bombs. Warriors in six.

He also would get warriors in fouls trouble all game. You also forgot how many all defensive teams Kobe was on. He can guard KD. Not saying KD want get numbers but this is Kobe Bryant we're talking about. Don't forget about big shot bob, Derek fisher's clutch gene , Tyron lue's defense, etc.

A lot of older teams are hyped to be able to beat Golden State, when realistically they would have zero chance. The 2000s Lakers are the only team IMO that don't fall into that category, and are by far the worst matchup for Golden State out of all the all-time teams. Because of Shaq being so ridiculously dominant, on top of them having a player like Kobe who can match Durant's scoring while Shaq matches anyone else on Golden State, with LA having great perimeter defenders for guards like Derek Fisher/Kobe/Robert Horry, I think this one particular squad would overwhelm Golden State, and probably win in 6 games. I wouldn't say 5 or 7 because they wouldn't dominate them, but I also can't see GS winning 3 games. Golden State has the best team and most talented roster of all-time IMO, but if you had to pick one team to beat them, it's these Lakers.
