I love their answers. Gentleness, kind, supportive, positive mindset, these are all important traits for a happy, successful life. Especially when we talk about long term "I don't think anyone's personality can be defined by their nationality. I just want to be in a respectful relationship" truly hits the mark.

As a Japanese woman who has been married to an American man for almost 50 years, I found this clip very interesting from how things were when I married. At that time, there weren’t too many foreign men living in Japan, or at least I didn’t meet. I came to the U.S. to find my independence and a life of my own. I worked and was absorbed in the American ways of life naturally. So, meeting my future husband was a natural occurrence, so to speak. My humble advice for the Japanese women who are open to a international marriage is to make sure to visit his country for a lengthy time. Just because he is fluent in Japanese and understand the Japanese cultures, you must also understand his cultures and his family situations., etc.

Woah, why is everyone here attacking her for being married to an American man!? You guys do realize that love has no restrictions because it’s based on the beauty in the eye of the beholder. There is nothing shameful for marrying someone of another race. All that matters is that you truly love them and treat them with respect. Many races have intertwined today, so having a “hafu” offspring isn’t bad at all. Imagine just trying to mate within your own race because you yourself aren’t comfortable having a mixed offspring…until you find someone appealing to you of a different race…Which happens all the time. The only thing staining here is your mentality…not hers. Anyways that being said, God bless you and your loved ones.

I am Japanese and I translated the text using a translator. Basically, Japanese people have a culture of not saying what they really think when they speak in public. They are humble when it is about themselves and positive when it is about other people. This is called 'honne to tatemae'. In reality, the international marriage rate for Japanese women has been around 1% for decades, less than a third of the rate for Japanese men. An international marriage rate of 1% is quite low in the world.

Most people don't want to sound rude in public, so they are not going to react negatively about foreigners, but in reality marring foreigners especially those from "backward" countries may not be a preferred choice. When you are open for an international relationship then it's manadatory to learn each others language, if the relationship is serious. I think learning each others language & culture is in my eyes a way higher act of commitment than a marriage cause getting married is only a matter of hours but learning language & culture is a matter of decades.

Many of her friends are Japanese women who married Americans who had a good marriage when younger but problems are occurring as they get older. Much of this seems to be related to dietary or cultural differences. What I am seeing is that people get stubborn as they get older and it's harder to compromise on differences. This is the major cause of arguments that I sometimes have with my wife but we are happy, love each other, and plan to stay married.

Each couple has to work things out for themselves, but between the experiences of friends and myself… all with their spouses for 15-27 years (plus kids), don’t do it. Have 3 accounts… his, hers and joint/shared. Calculate your household expenses (rent, food, utilities, incidentals, kids various) and add a little extra for savings, divide by 2 and each equally contributes to the household. The remainder is for each of them to use as they like… saving, investing, partying, hobbies, etc.

My wife and I have been married for over 36 years and have two adult sons. I am white American and she is Japanese from Okinawa. I do think there are cultural differences that take some effort to understand or be respectful of when a person is in an international relationship. The level of commitment to your foreign spouse is paramount because you will be tested from time to time. In order for an international relationship to be successful takes an extraordinary effort by both persons. If you are a lazy person, I don’t think you stand a chance at making it work. That being said, I do believe it is also much more rewarding if these conditions are met as everyday both individuals do offer something unique to the relationship…which is likely what attracted the two of you in the first place. But it also can be challenging if you allow outside distractions to influence or interfere with the commitment. There are ignorant people who view a successful international marriage/relationship as a judgement upon them, personally, as being inadequate in the eyes of the international individual. That is sad as it speaks to their insecurities about themselves. An international relationship requires a higher level of attention, commitment, and respect for each other and that is dependent on the person themself rather than their nationality. If each individual can meet that challenge, you can have a successful relationship and long life together.

The most important is to be open minded about new experiences. The cultural barrier is a real thing, the more videos like these I've watched, I eventually realised I very likely could never be together with a native Japanese woman, the chances would be extremely low, I might be overthinking it, but the language & cultural barrier would be hard to overcome. Full honesty: I don't think the majority of the Japanese population is open minded enough, just take the fact that most Japanese parents would prefer their daughter to marry their own nationality. I've lived most of my life being brutally honest, I want to be rational. It's not about right or wrong, it's about doing what's best. Some people have a problem with it and my close friends love me for those qualities. Only a few of these woman gave correct answers and they would be a decent match for a foreigner. While watching the interview, I saw many red flags. I don't think they did it on purpose, but many of these woman just come off as Gaijin hunters, they seem to just want to use a foreigner. I've travelled a fair bit, there's good & bad people in every country, there's beautiful & ugly people everywhere, each country has their own culture but at the end of the day people are just people.

I think they have an idealized view of European and American men - I assume most of them are thinking of European and American when someone says “foreigners”, not Africans, South Americans or Arabs, but the same goes for them. Western men are not so “ladies first” as they imagine, far from it. Ultimately, the girl in the sunglasses is right: “I don’t think anyone could define a person based on their nationality.”

In Japan people still keep to groups when forming relationships this means dating others around or in the groups, from high school, college or co-workers, friends. This is more prevalent than any other country even Korea, where they are just a little less group driven compared to Japan. It makes it less likely they meet people outside their social group. It's true they basically don't talk to strangers except in specific situations like nightlife even there, there's still a level of shyness. In addition there is overall a more positive view of foreigners (from countries around the world) of European origin appearance in dating, work and social networking, there are historical and media reasons for this, that is not to say that some of the Japanese girls won't marry other foreigners, Chinese and Korean are the highest numbers though because they share a similar background. And k pop has changed things a little too for younger girls in terms of preference :). One thing is when they talk about foreigners being kind I think they refer to the patriarchal structure of Japanese society where even a 16 year old boy adopts the same approach regardless of what you see in anime. In communication and consideration, in the West and other cultures we tend to form closer connections between men and women. Even a 16 year old boy won't show the same consideration for his girlfriend that we do. Hence the reason why most Japanese girls regardless of age will mention 'ladies first' when describing foreign males, esp westerners. They are really reflecting on how a society treats women which shows in personal relationships between a man and woman, that's their definition of kind as well as individual acts. Unfortunately many of the girls don't have the real life experience of dating a foreigner, but you're right there are other foreign guys living in the Japan, including university students and company workers, who they don't form attachments with because of social and cultural pressure even though they have the opportunity. Also I think learning Japanese is good but English is also the language many countries use to form connections.

Idk what you talking about kid. I went to japan many times before corona and my japanese is not even that good, met so many people, made friends, its easy. All you have to do is NEVER MENTION ANIME or MANGA and you will be in the clear, learn things about the culture, a woman will give you the eyes roll if you talk about naruto, but talk about ishikawa sayuri and they will be interested about what you have to say lol.

@@leredditcommander8208 I think we are probably on different pages, I'm referencing the nuances of everyday Japanese society, culture and life as well as responding to a couple of comments here. I think you are talking about interacting with people there on a much more short term basis like visits or travel, but thanks for your input !

I must say, excellent work! You have a new subscriber because of this video! 👍🏻😁 まだ1週間ほど前に始めたばかりですが、日本語と日本文化に慣れて、日本にいるときだけ日本語を話したいと思っています。 And I'm trying very hard. Actually it's been more like 2 or 3 weeks. In response to some of the concerns they had. I am American, but I hope to get to move to Japan soon! I'm writing two novels and I like my work as a Metallurgical Chemist and Machinist, but the industry is dieing here and I really want to finish and publish my most recent novel! At one point I thought I would do well in South Korea. 네. 저는 한국말을 잫 아직도 못해요. 죄송합니다. But I'm doing much better! 화이팅! But I am learning that Japanese language and culture feels more comfortable to me and fits me better. I am picking up on the language much more easy. Like it's more natural to me. I would want to learn to have a relationship with the woman I fall in love with in Japan with respect and appreciation for the culture and traditions and ways that make her get the most happiness in life. I would want her to teach me to know and understand what I don't know yet and I would teach her things she want would like to know. I want to learn to see and perceive things from a Japanese perspective. Many people try to say that Japanese women are very submissive and things like that, but from what I am learning about the Japanese language, history, culture and people they are the most wonderful, beautiful, intelligent, strong, loving, cute, sweet, honest, funny and amazing women on earth! I know that surely there were plenty of women who said they just wouldn't be interested, but I'm not interested in those people either. Just that one special one that is interested. Those are my thoughts on Japanese women. I do have one thing I would have a hard time adjusting to. That is the culture and tradition of not saying "I love you" even in dating or marriage relationships! I agree that showing it is the most important thing, but to be free and open to say "I love you" is a strength and can make a relationship so much more rich between one another! But I wouldn't want her to feel awkward if I told her that I love her when I have actually begun to love her! There are already several more topics I am interested in and even concerned about in Japan. Like the declining population. And I would like to see or find an answer that can also keep Japan the pure and natural Japan that the people came from! I have never had any trouble getting dates, but I want something more than that. And women here just want to play. They have decided that marriage is just not for them anymore. And the infidelity is even a major part in the music they go after. I would want a woman who would love me and honor our relationship as much as I love her and honor my commitment to her! Yes I'm a manly kind of guy, but I have a heart! And real men aren't afraid to show it! To be honest I'm serious enough that if that girl that offered to talk was serious I would be very happy for her to respond to this and I would be happy to talk more and get to know each other. Who knows, maybe we were meant to find each other! I have a feeling that the woman I am meant to spend the rest of my life with is there. So as soon as possible I am moving there! Unfortunately I'll have to keep working on my Japanese language skills on my own for now. Hahaha! Thank you again for a very well done video! 👍🏻 I hope to see many more! Take care. Edit: Sorry my post turned out so long. I just had a lot to communicate.

its more like a stereotype, people tend to think good of the things they dont know about, and forget about reality. its should be person related instead nationality related

I am already married, but I really hope the lady with the purple shirt finds a nice partner. She seems really enthusiastic about dating and wanting to be in a serious relationship, but her bubbly personality could be easily mistaken for being a little bit strange or over the top. I have met a few Japanese girls like this, and most of them are absolutely 100% normal once you get to know them. She'd make you feel like a king every day!

Enjoying thinking about something is very different from actually doing it. Most Japanese women would be too shy to even try speaking English with a foreigner even if they thought they were very handsome.

Absolutely they will! Most of My gaijin friends have Japanese wives. In many cases, it was about wanting to start a family and the women being unable to find Japanese men who felt the same way. So, they expanded their horizons and now have the family they wanted.

I married a japanese. My japanese level is unfortunately still low even if i did my WH there. Low because i started working for an international company where i needed to speak english and german. Anyway his family was very suprised when meeting me first time because he didnt tell them i am a foreigner (and wearing yukata on that day). My now father in law is from the traditional generation, cannot speak any english and never left the country, but still he likes me and wanna make me happy with nice food and many sake 😂 but yes, the only "negative" thing in his mind is the language barrier. He would love to have a proper conversation with me without the translator device he bought for our meet ups 😂 maybe sometimes he worrying about us because we live now in Germany, but as long he knows i make his son happy he is also happy. 😊
