I like this question 👍
When Alli was at his best spurs also had Eriksen and Dembele basically controlling the game and Dier/Wanyama being the base which allowed him freedom and to play forward all the time with little responsibility other than to link in the final 3rd with Kane and Son. Totally different when it’s Kane,Son, a winger like Lucas, a much weaker midfield at controlling the game and then Dele…

But would you go the toilet if there is 1% that a bear will be there? Get to the point Jimmy!
it seems silly but using the FIFA ratings is actually a pretty smart way to see how well-regarded/popular a player is at any given point in time.
Question I've wondered about; Does having a tall striker always equate to better aerial threat/goals? How much does height really matter when taking about headed opportunities? Asking as a Blackburn fan, when commentators always bang on about when we play Sam Gallagher through the middle and his height and aerial presence become a factor, but for the life of me I can't remember him ever scoring a header. Ever.

Jumping reach us important in truth, the higher jump the more chances of scoring also depending on timing of the header. Watch Harry kane header vs city. Some players get beaten in the air despite being tall because of lack of physicality, technicalities and jumping reach.

@@jakkaxn5513 and Tim Cahill famously would train volleyball jumping techniques (I think). He was excellent and relatively short. I guess it also comes down to reading the game too. That instinct might only be trainable to an extent.
Question: Since Liverpool hired their throw-in coach, Thomas Gronnemark, have other teams done the same and have the stats or outcomes from throws-ins changed?
Question - Is there any justification for 'goalkeepers shouldn't be beaten at their near post'? It happens so so frequently and pundits/commentators/fans always give really harsh criticism of the goalkeeper because they think it's really easy to save at your near post.

Joe having a root around in his undies whilst JJ explains Dele's drop off in form is the perfect distillation of Tifo IRL.
Considering Wan-Bisaka, his attributes and the fact he struggles to make an impact from right back. Wouldn't his talents be of far better use as a destroyer type DM or even a center back?

I think he doesn't have good enough positional awareness to play in a role where he has to monitor more space
@MrPorto4ever

I would rather see him more as a third "center back", a bit like walker does for manchester city, meaning, he stays back when manchester atacks and tucks in a little while the with is given by the player in front of him on that wing and with pogba and matic ahead of the now 3 man back line. Gives more security against counter atacks, alows matic to play so they can actually move the ball up the field, unlike when fred and mctomany play and pogba is more free to roam. This being said, i don't think I am smarter than any of the manchester united coachs and if they don't try this maybe is because there is something that bisaka lacks to do this role.
Worth mentioning Dele was held at knife point in his home, which has almost certainly had an effect. Hope he does well, love him
We do a lot of analysis about how specific players (particularly attackers) create chances. Please would you focus on an individual defender and look at some of their pattens which lead them to be particularly successful defensively?

@@AeolianMusica maybe? not that I don't have faith in tifo but it's far from easy to not only find the right data but also process it so it's meaningful for the skills that are important defensively, like decision making and composure. etc. i bet there is potential for an xG-like stat for defensive skill though, we mostly just have things like interceptions and tackle numbers which are like the defensive equivalent of passes assists and goals, not very granular data that is susceptible to large variation and doesn't tell a full story. Ive studied a bit on data science for my degree and I bet there are people out there who can, but the fact that its a niche would mean they'd be better off at football clubs and stats companies than KZread... love the tifo lads but they're not exactly statisticians, they're great entertainers and explainers.

Question- One of the most frustrating areas of the pitch for ManUtd is there midfield. Assuming you guys were the sporting directors ahead of next season, whilst still keeping in mind player’s like James Garner’s progression and people like Pogba with winding contracts How would you reconstruct that midfield to ensure it has as much balance as possible?

Question: Football tactics are constantly evolving. If the dominant paradigm in today's game is the 4-3-3 formation with pressing/gegenpressing, what do you predict will replace it?
Interesting, informative and hilarious. Brilliant stuff guys.
Question: Aside from the financial benefits that he provides, how else does Abramovich contribute to strengthening Chelsea? If he sells the club, do you foresee Chelsea slowly becoming a mid tier club again? Also... Very enjoyable episode.
I believe someone did a similar experiment in FM with PSG. First they used *Phil Jones* at striker and still won everything. He needed to use *Kepa* at striker to not win CL but still won Ligue 1. True farmers' league.

great video Tifo
When Dele Alli broke through at MK Dons he did play in that deep lying playmaker role with a DM alongside. Think at Spurs they were able to get him to perfect the attacking version of himself in development and he's finding it hard to get back into it after years of not having to focus on that stuff

Question: How common (in terms of %) are shots that hit the crossbar and posts, and are there any players (currently or in history) that are outliers in terms of shots that hit the post/bar?
Can you make a vid on how transfer values are determined. I'm aware of the basic concepts but would love an expert analysis about this
Have we reached the upper limit of how attacking various roles/positions can become or are there ways for Centre Backs & Goalkeepers to become far more involved in attack? If so, what would that look like and what would teams have to do to compensate.
Alex with Shanghai Shenhua jersey! Nice.
“….the acceleration of a glacier.” Hahah
This is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen/heard on KZread. Alex's commentary was glorious 😭
Question: Is Gegenpressing the anti-thesis to Guardiola style possession and what will be the next dominant style of play in football after the high intensity pressing game promoted by Klopp and Ragnick?
Alex's Shenhua kit is a beauty! Also, did the last question been answered in the last episode already?
Dele briefly did well under Nuno as a bulldog b2b pressing midfielder. However, in doing so while his pressing, and defensive and running stats improved it came at the expense of all the magic to his game (specifically his goal threat or assist threat) which makes him worth having. He is truly a player who can only work when given complete freedom to do a few special things and nothing else
Continuing the positions vs roles argument, is there any role from the past you think will re-emerge, or current popular role that will disappear in 10 years? Some revival of an offsides-conscious sweeper/stopper formation? Return of the Pirlo regista or physical target man? The 10 attacking mid disappears?
Since forward, midfielder & back are vertical locations attached to each position, and right, left, middle & full are attached to position based on horizontal locations, why aren’t right & left midfielders/wingers called full midfielders much like full backs?
Why do countries like Argentina, Spain and Germany produce so many top-class managers, and why doesn't the UK?
The troublesome thing about the old firm dominance is that the other teams in the Scottish Premier league are all fairly equally matched. All it would take was a team that was comfortably better than the rest. If Aberdeen for example could comfortably beat the other teams, then defend well enough for draws with Celtic and Rangers, then the old firm teams would need to beat each other and perform consistently every other matchday.
Final question, yes risk is a part of life and makes it fun!!
Is there a paucity of proper number 9s out there? If so, why? Acknowledging the role has changed, it seems to be players have to be borderline world class in order to play there (Vlahovic, Benzema, Kane, peak Lukaku). Alternatively, and more commonly now, the spread of goals tends to come from elsewhere in the team due to different tactical systems.
I love your sense of humour😂
"Here (Joe) is, leading a Ferocious press...." killed me LOL
Can you explain the different types of drop balls please thanks
Question: is Havertz important for Chelsea, and if he is, how?
@iamwahman
2 жыл бұрын
Just from watching him( Chelsea fan here), I would say he offers a much higher level of mobility and fluidity in our attack. This Chelsea team under Tuchel is very much a modern team influenced by the fluidity of Guardiola teams. I think that the reason why the English media may discredit Havertz is that alot of them are still old school in how they see football. They still think that a big physical striker to wip balls to is a way to play and them being the main goal source is the thing. Now yes, we needed an goal scorer but maybe instead of looking for a more straight forward striker( I mean, we have a striker curse at that club), I would say that we should've looked for goal scoring forward. A player mobile like the ones we have but much better in front of goal. In Havertz case, he offers us creativity upfront in being able to find space to link up and a good sense of space as well for finishing( look at his goal against Burnley this weekend).
Returning to Dele Alli, if his most successful season was due to his goal threat, why cant he just be deployed as a striker? I understand that DLC and Richarlison would currently assume those roles, but in the event that one gets transferred, wouldn't Alli's best position be as a no.9?
8:08 theres a fitness coach with the same name as me!
At Euro 2020 (+1), there were more own goals scored than there were in all previous Euros that we have that kind of data for combined. Why?
I have a question I'd like to see a data video on: Do teams improve with time by sticking to a manager? If there's a positive corelation between points/game and time spent as manager, there is still the question wether it was caused by the decision of the club to keep the manager or did the coach stay due the positive results. I think this is a relevant question for any football club, since there will be a time when a manager leaves.
Question! Why do many teams (including Liverpool) tend to kick a long ball to the opposition half right after kickoff and try to get the second ball? Although they have the quality to play from the back?
A question… Do teams concede more goals from playing a goal kick short and it all going wrong vs long kicks

Question: For how long would the Pochettino experiment go on at PSG, if they do not win the Champions League this season? Is it possible for a team like Manchester United to be able to lure him into leaving the star-studded PSG side?
what are your thoughts on mark hughes taking over as coach of bradford city, and do you think we will see any more well known managers head down to the lower leagues?
Was it just me that couldn't help but smile at the Football Manager section
Considering the success of city, who have a relatively small but high quality squad, and the relative dysfunction of Chelsea, who have an extremely large one (especially when including loanees) would it be fair to say that depth in itself is not the key to success?
Question: what would be the most sensible transfer for Haaland, and why?
I would play Devine in either flank as a Raumdeuter (since he is apparently very good at interpreting space but not so great in using it) depending on Sane and Gnabry's form, then play the entirety of the game exclusively on the other flank using him as a giant decoy. That way he won't start counter attacks for the opposition and the possession waste will be minimal. He might even draw a defender to create space for others. I would also task him with marking the keeper on any kind of set piece, just because. I think using him as a penalty specialist Target man is a waste of his unique talents (or lack thereof)
Question on managerial style. Current ManU team with a 2007 Ferguson style vs 2007 ManU team with Current Rangnick style. Also Same question for Liverpool. The 2008 team under Klopp Vs current team under Benitez
Could TAA move into midfield, how does he compare to other cm's?
Lol that shanghai shenhua kit😅
I’d like to know how Joe divines performance would be effected by the level of the squad around him. How would a joe divine perform at barrow for a season vs a joe divine playing for Man City
I've got a question. Today's was the first time I've heard "clutch" used on Tifo, you hear it around American sports all the time. "How do you define/measure if a player is clutch? (Has the clutch gene)"

question: how has Eddie Howe transformed Joelinton? What do his stats and tactical positioning tell us?
I would go for putting Joe as a GK and play a very possession heavy football with a high-line to decrease the amount of shots to the goal for the opposition. Make every opposition shot a one on one situation and allow 40 additional goals per season rather than dropping 60 goals. Or put him as an anchor man. Only make him the easiest passes and use his volume as an aerial defence.
I mean they literally have one at striker for a few seasons now and they're doing fine so yes?
ok serious comment. Alex's breakdown and commentary on Joe as footballer was a straight up violation
Given your knowledge of US internationals please give a lineup and how you think they should play to get the most out of their talent pool
The Joe Devine question was fun. You should calculate is IRL penalty conversion rate next. I see a lot of people talking about how Arsenal's games in hand are against good teams. To me this seems entirely irrelevant, surely what matters is the overall schedule strength of any team left to play regardless of whether those are ordinarily scheduled or rearranged games, not specifically /who/ they're playing in post-poned and/or rearranged games?
In the Netherlands we still hold Donny vd Beek in high regard and he is still considered (by some) best as a 10 in a shadow striker role, which also what got him to the higher stage at Ajax, making Alli's move with Donny coming over as well extra weird to me. Donny can play in deeper roles of course too and is a better presser so I don't really get why Everton got Alli, even on a loan.
Who was the best Aussie forward between Cahill, Viduka and Kewell? Also was the Italy vs Australia 06 world cup pen a good call?
Eric Ten Hag or poch, which one is closer to the elite level manager ( pep, Klopp, etc.) In terms of tactical and management level? Who is the world class manager currently apart from those 2?
More important question than my last, when is Joes next album coming out?
What can be changed in football in order to get more playing time and less stoppage time? Could a system where the clock is stopped when the game is stopped, like in Basket, be an option?
