I’m so glad that Jeff is now being recognised in this way. I think this was significantly better and more personable than mainstream cycling media: he actually talks about the things I care about and is a balanced reviewer. I will be watching Jeff’s new product reviews from now on: so bike brands support him and keep them coming 👍👍

The $5500 Evo2 won’t be available until December but the Ultegra di2 build represents a nice $750 price cut from the previous Evo. I would probably buy that version and use the $10,000 savings to move to Girona for the next six months.

I think the $15k price point is largely so you feel like you saved money when you spend $5k on a bike. Without the high end option, $5k for a bike would feel extravagant.

Love how we judge a bike reviewer as to whether he/she was comped. But US Supreme Court Justices think they’re still unbiased when they get flown to exclusive Alaska fishing reserves and taken a half mill vacations. No bias, nothing to see here…. That said, returning to reality, love this review. He calls out the $15k rig and touts the $5.5K value proposition. Kudos!!!

Lol, are we kidding? 15k for a bike is an absurd price. Of course it's a pro bike, and you're free of buying it, but there is no point for 99% of amateurs to spend that much. Even the 5.5k bike is at the upper limit of what could be considered a high tier bike. The most brilliant idea that companies have come up with in recent years has been to convince amateurs that they need all the latest technology reserved for the pros. Props for the testing though, good stuff

Nice video I’m always blown away why SCOTT doesn’t get the recognition they deserve for their cockpit integration on all of their road bikes. You can messily swap out the stems to you’re correct size without having to bleed the cables etc. Their one piece bar stem that comes on their mid tier bikes is also incredible at that price point. This new cannondale looks amazing though, definitely one to consider.

As everyone is saying, we really appreciate the honest review. Forget the $15K bike - it's not for racers (other than World Tour pros). What I think Cannondale deserves a TON of credit for is the $5500 Ultegra Di2 model. Specialized wants $8300 for an Ultegra Di2 Tarmac SL7 (with shallower wheels)!!! I say this as a very happy Tarmac SL6 owner (bought it used) - I'm totally priced out of replacing it with another Tarmac so Cannondale might just have scored a new customer.

But I do miss the narration and off the cuff audio delivery especially in the 2018-19 days, abit more raw but yet humble and more natural. Not that there’s anything wrong with the current version though! $15k for a bike? Welp. Save it for full FSD! 😂 I think the value add to this review was suggesting a “mere mortal” bike at a range that’s more reasonable and 1/3 of the lab 71!

With your comment of the designs being the same, its the natural progression towards optimum aero. A great example in another field is the Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight; they were made totally independently by massive car companies with huge design and engineering budgets, but when optimising for aero (for fuel economy) they both look almost identical.

Man that was an amazing vid - especially the ride and metrics. Really great job. I am a cross fit athlete who is new to triathlons and in process of buying a mid tier bike. I am down to the new SL7 expert and the EVO 1. I really like the design of the 10r frame on the SL7. It seems more aero than the EVO 1 with the narrow and rounded down tube. In contrast, the EVO 1 down tube is wide and flat. But, Cannondale offers substantially more for less. The EVO 1 comes with new SRAM Force AXS group, an aero cockpit and innovative delta cable routing - all for 6500 USD. A comparable SL7 would be 9000USD; and is therefore the lesser value proposition. In the end, I will likely purchase the EVO 1. Thanks for the great content. J

@@the.communist Prices are ridiculous only if you look at the highest end. The 5500 one, in today's market, is pretty well priced. You get the latest Ultegra Di2, carbon wheels, carbon handlebars, integrated cables (with a nice solution at that, apparently), good tyre clearance and a nice looking (IMO) frameset. In today's market that's pretty good. I think, off the top of my head, it undercuts most other brands in this "tier" of bike. Of course, the quality of the standard components remains to be seen, but it seems like a good deal in principle.

We all moaned about pressfit not because it's intrinsically bad but because frame tolerances were hit and miss. Pressfit is actually better for carbon frames if the frames are made to spec. I can tell you from my time as a mechanic that bonded threaded sleeves in carbon frames can be a problem down the line. The bonding can fail over time due to pedalling forces, degregation of the bond and insertion and removal of the bottom bracket. I saw a number of road frames that failed due to the stresses and strains of riding and maintenance. Trying to get said frames warrantied was difficult to say the least, I'm looking at you, Trek.

I've learned to be cautious when spending on a bling bike these days and not focus too much on the paint and groupsets. They make a difference sure, but I want to be sure that frame is built to spec. Sprinting on it is good test to judge frames but it's what you can't see that makes the quality argument. Is the bottom bracket machined center? Are there voids in the layup? And definitely - if -only- spending 5k on the lower tier bike, how do the layups compare in quality to those the mold was designed for? Different fibers behave differently especially in tight radius curves.

Help me out here... how are the cables going THROUGH the headset bearing the "right way" vs passing into the frame without going through the headset bearing? I cannot see any advantage. My bike (Orbea Orca) passes them through the headset spacers but outside the bearings and into the frame. I can easily pack the bike for travel and make all necessary changes without the headset ruining my life. Through the headset bearings sounds far worse to me at least.

He answered you above. Flying folks to launches is a cost of doing biz. Otherwise, no media awareness. Cheaper than shipping everybody a new bike to test. Also, Jeff goes to great lengths to disclose the paid flight and accommodations. Finally, the proof is in the review. He is candid about the$15k halo Lab71 vs teh $5.5K Ultegra. He also says “new bike, new roads,” and then gives his impressions with that caveat and with watts/speed and against a Velo rider whom he judged to be fit and skilled. Excellent review without the 20 minutes of throat clearing nonsense in most vids telling us the color of the backside of the derailleur and other irrelevant trivia. Kudos Jeff.

This made my day.... seeing Jeff on a Cannondale. I switched to Cannondale from Specialized about 3 years ago and have been very happy. Definitely underrated bikes. $15k for a bike is a lot, yes. But the world has gotten more expensive. Everything is ridiculous now. One thing I've noticed about Cannondale is that they take their time before releasing new iterations of their models. This is good because when you buy Cannondale you know you are getting a bike that will be relevant for at least a decade. For example, the SystemSix when it was released in 2019 made the fastest aero numbers in the tunnel. Now, in recent days only 1 or maybe two bikes have beaten it officially and only by a single watt. 5 long years later. The SuperSix was one of the first bikes to have Truncated airfoil tube shapes and now most of the other manufacturers have followed suit. I'd go out on a limb to say that if you go back to 2019 and look at the SystemSix and SuperSix models and compare them to todays bikes, you'll find that most of the new bikes actually look more like Cannondale. Not the other way around.
