My Hubby & I recently finished decluttering our kitchen & used Joshua Becker's idea of not having anything on the countertops (we still have a couple of things). We went on vacation for 2 wks & just got home this wk. We both walked into the kitchen & was amazed at how fresh & clean it felt not having all that stuff out. Ot has encouraged us to start on another room...after we rest up from vacation. 😆 Thank you Dawn for inspiring us with every video. Now, I need to go order me some Pink Stuff.

I have been watching your videos for a couple of years now, and have decluttered so much! My mother has as well! People come into my home, and always say, “Your house is so clean!” Honestly, it is because God used you to pass along all this wise advise to help me let go of “stuff” that my family did not need. You do such a wonderful job of addressing the emotional part of decluttering. Like you, I have four children, and the area of my home that I am now going through is boxes of old photos and school papers. I seriously need prayer to “not become weary in doing good,” because it is an emotional and almost overwhelming process. My father passed away four years from cancer, and I am dealing with wanting to hang onto every item like cards, etc, that he wrote on. It’s like having a little piece of him, but I cannot keep it all. When I get bogged down, I pray for Jesus to help me and watch one of your encouraging videos!

So sorry about your father. Have you considered shadow boxes for keeping his cards? They come in various sizes at Michaels Arts & Craft store that way you always have his memory. Or even putting them in a scrapbook for keepsake with pictures of him? Great way to preserve without having to let go.

To KEEP your oven nice after all that work, put a tin oven liner (available at Walmart, Lowe’s, etc) or make your own with tin foil and put it on the bottom of the oven - under and around the elements. SO much easier to just take out and toss when dirty. I also put a strip of tin foil in the middle of the top shelf- not all the way across to edges- it doesn’t seem to slow the cooking time as long as it’s Not all the way to the edge. I can just whip it out and toss if spills happen. And lastly, just a quick wipe WHEN spills happen. Do it quick- I keep a small, old pot holder handy that I don’t worry about getting dirty to keep my hands safe and then wipe with a damp wash cloth or paper towel. If you do it right then, it won’t bake on, that’s when you have to scrub for ever! 💖Good luck! LOVE a your videos! Thanks for all you do!

For those that might need a low chemical option for The Pink Stuff functionality, I found mixing 1 part liquid Castile soap of your choice with 2 parts baking soda (I used a citrus version), and stirring the heck out of it worked really well. I stuck it in a wide mouth jar, and use a wet rag to apply like people do the pink stuff, then wipe off with a wet rag and spritz with vinegar or vinegar and water and wipe with a clean, dry rag.

I recently upgraded to all glass food storage from plastic. I now store mine with the lids on after a previous video I saw of yours. It was a TOTAL GAME CHANGER! I thought it would take up too much space and limit me too much in my cabinets. It does take up a little more space from my previous setup but I LOVE IT. I cannot imagine storing them any other way. Plus it is way easier for my husband when he grabs one or goes to put one away. Anyone who hasn't tried this definitely should! Added bonus I have less containers now than before but honestly I didn't even need the amount I had before. I did keep a small stash of plastic ones for kids lunches for school but OMG I will never go back....! One of my favorite tips I have gained from you Dawn!

We have found that just wrapping those faucets/black parts in paper towels and soaking them with vinegar works very effectively. Let them stay wet for 30 minutes to an hour depending on the amount of calcification (repeat as necessary). Agitate gently with something like a toothbrush. If you scrub too hard, you will remove the patina.

If you hate the smell of vinegar try citric acid. Where I'm at you can easily buy it in small packets (for baking, etc), it's safe and it smells like lemons :) Just dissolve it in small amount of water, soak paper towel in the mixture and put the wet towel on that faucet. I usually leave it on the problematic spot for an hour or so but I once moved into apartment with a really bad mineral deposit in the shower. Leaving paper towel soaked in citric acid mixture over night did the trick.

I too suggest citric acid in place of vinegar. I use it mixed with Dawnn and water to clean my bath surround and mixed with water to clean my coffee maker. Sometimes I add it to my laundry rinse cycle the same way you might use vinegar. It smells so much better. I buy a bag in bulk that lasts forever and takes up less room than a bottle of vinegar.

I use to be a minimalist but didn't know it, then 2 years ago I started seeing everyone go overboard with decor and stuff and I started doing it and a few days ago I came across one of your videos saying if you feel overwhelmed with your home it's probably because you have to much stuff and it hit me that it was true so the last few days I have been decluttering and have probably enough stuff to fill up my husband's truck that came out of my house. We will be taking it and donating it this weekend while he is off. Plus I found since I cut out my Amazon prime membership I am not going and buying so much stuff especially stuff I see other people get and stuff other people recommend. The only hard thing is getting rid of stuff my mother in law gives me for Christmas because I am afraid she will notice it is gone when she comes by.. Maybe use Dawn’s “quarantine” bin idea, store the oldest gifts your MIL gave you, and display one or two somewhere you can find a home for them. Then you can rotate those items (IF they are items you actually enjoy having out in display)… if she doesn’t inquire about the other items in the quarantine bin-then after some time you can sell/donate 😊

Take a pic and text it to me! I’ll appreciate that you are thinking of me at that very moment, you can save the money for a visit, and neither of us will have any extra clutter! The bonus is, if it is something I really like and would enjoy having, I can tell her right then and there and pick out the exact color or style if there are choices.

My Mother-In-Law on the other hand will notice and ask. But she started a massive dejunking to move from their 100 year old two-story farmhouse to a small mobile home in town. She tossed everything without asking, even stuff I specifically told her I want if she ever decided to get rid of and she put my name on. That really upset me. But then she will hand me totes full of stuff she *says* she doesn’t want - but she launches into the whole story of who and why and where it’s from so “I just knew you’d want it!” For years, I have taken on all of that guilt-laden junk! For instance the handmade door harp & oak popcorn bowl from our honeymoon; we couldn’t afford to buy anything for them *and* ourselves, so we bought that for them and told her multiple times if she ever decided she didn’t want them to please give them back to us and put our name on them as inheritance. My husband died 14 years ago! She tossed them out to a church yard sale without even asking me while handing me several totes full of musty smelly stained moth-eaten or rusted crap! Then it dawned [Dawn’d😘] on me: Clearly she does not care about the stuff in the totes enough to keep it and store it *herself*. AND she didn’t care enough about my feelings to keep the things I told her I really wanted and that would have meant so much to me!! I go through the stuff now just to make sure she doesn’t give away my husband‘s grandmother‘s items that I want. But the rest I take straight to the trash, Goodwill, or put in the pile for my yard sale. FYI: The only reason I need too a yard sale is because I have no income at all, my grandlittles live 2.5 hrs in opposite directions and need me, but the financial planner lost 3/5 of the life insurance money so even “everything for .50” helps!

He went through his room and pared down everything in it before leaving for the dorm which was a huge help and motivation for me. The first thing I’ve started on is my kitchen. I’ve been able to put so many things in the time will tell box and so much went to the thrift store and trash. It’s amazing how much I still have in place that we use though! When I dropped off items at the thrift store it was such a relief!! The thing that helps me is knowing that all of this has to go *somewhere* and can’t stay in my house forever and also knowing the money has already been spent on these items. It takes the guilt away from removing things we spent money on as well as the guilt of throwing things away. These extra things have to go somewhere cause they can’t stay here!

I love the way the open shelving and the tablecloth look…so summery! I can’t use a table cloth on my round kitchen table because my two cats like to run down the hall, jump up on the table, slide across it and then run thru the living room. I tried a tablecloth once and, other than it’s excellent entertainment value , it did not work well…cats and tablecloth everywhere! So, I am enjoying your table because it is very pretty!

Hey *Dawn,* our dearest ♡, to your question about the *faucet:* I can highly recommend *toilet cleaner!* (The thick, viscous soapy-like one, that's supposed to be sqeezed/squirted/spouted under the rim..) The acid in it, that's meant against the urine scale, will dissolve the scale on your sink & faucet. And bc. it's so thick/viscous, it will stick to it perfectly. Pour and leave it on all around it for at least 5-10 minutes. Befor rinsing it of, you rub/scrub *with a toothbrush* once all around it to loosen the dissolved scale. You'll be amazed, I promise! ☆ (The factor is not only the acid, like in the vinegar, or the mechanical scrubbing like with the pink paste, but also *time* to dissolve properly and to certainly *reach scrubbing every gap and groove,* which only the fine & delicate bristles of a toothbrush can do.) I'll try the pink stuff on my oven though! It's a disaster, I hate cleaning it.. 😣 Edit: I like the lemon bowl and table cloth a lot! 🍋 I think what maybe bothers you with the zick zack is the square basket on the upper shelve or the (not really yellow but also not really white) cakestand. Not sure, but I could imagine the pretty basket with flowers would look nice on the table instead. Love ♡

I hung my measuring cups and measuring spoons on the inside of cupboard doors where I use them the most. They are always easy to find and, BEST: easy to put away. I used to have three sets of each and now only one and I never have to rummage through my bowls to find them. It is almost like storing your tupperware with the lid on. Life changing.

A white vinegar soak will take care of mineral deposits from water. I will soak a rag in the vinegar and wrap it around whatever I’m trying to clean if I can’t soak it directly in the vinegar. Leave it on for at least 15/20 min. It absolutely works. I have an outdoor misting system and living in metro Phoenix area, our water is very hard so the nozzles get clogged every summer after constant use. I just remove the little nozzle spouts by unscrewing them and soak them in a bowl of white vinegar for a minimum of 20 minutes and it works every time. Sometimes I will take a little brush to them after soaking if they haven’t been done in a while, just to make sure to get in the little nooks and crannies. Once I screw them back onto the misting line, it’s like we had a brand new system put up…it’s so satisfying 😀

Oh my gosh Dawn! I finally ordered some of this stuff because I trust you and Cas so much. My husband did the cooking, but he never cleaned. I don’t think I’ve cleaned the underside of my stove hood because I never thought of it. He’s been dead for 7 years, and I finally looked underneath the stove hood🙀🙀. I tried to clean it, and then I ordered The Pink Stuff from Amazon. Remember that this gunk has been under the hood, and on the stove door like in your video for many years, but I was AMAZED at how much gunk came off! I will do the stove door again, but I’d say that 80% of the stuff came off of the stove door, and 90% off of the hood (because I can’t get into some of the nooks and crannies). You, Cas, and The Pink Stuff are the best !!

"SELF-LIMITING"... OH!! ANOTHER genius term, Dawn 🎉 I just do a little bit every day so I never have to do those big deep-clean sessions. This is a great tip if you don't want to have to do big deep-clean sessions because things come off so much more easily if you don't let it set in...that's my best wisdom in this area. I keep a bottle of natural cleaner that's just water with a tablespoon of vinegar in it and spray down the kitchen surfaces every day off and on so things always stay clean. I really love doing that! Also, I put a large piece of foil on the bottom of the oven so that any drips are spills land on that and then just change the foil out periodically this way the bottom of your oven always stays clean! I have also found that if you do need a deep clean, that soft scrub lemon scent works really well. I've never heard of the pink stuff until this video. oh and an off note I finally found someone to bless your notebook with earlier this week and when my daughter gave it to this person she was so happy to receive it! So hopefully, she'll find your channel and learn even more great tips in regard to minimalism🎉❤😊 p.s. I'm a baker, but I decluttered our stand mixer a few years ago after finding your Channel. I love the smaller footprint of just a hand mixer and I don't miss the big one at all believe it or not! That whisk for your big stand mixer is for whipping cream or making meringue and you can do that with your smaller hand mixer. That was my biggest concern, not having that if I decluttered our stand mixer but now I realize the smaller hand mixer does the job just fine. I could not help but think that if you are placing two of the attachments to your stand mixer downstairs, it could be a sign that you could just keep your hand mixer and run with it! I'm not saying this is what everyone should do, but these things have worked for me.

I found one the years when my dad would find things people let go of or at garage sales that people who are giving away the items - keep the darn manuals and attachments!!! Because when you donate it is frustrating for the other person not to know how to use or operate the item- so even if you don’t like the beater attachment, when you go to donate it, the next person may have wanted that attachment but now they have to go find it for more money then the item was. That’s my tip of the day - keep all parts that came with your stuff in a bin and well marked “DVD parts & manual” or “Hoover - or Bessel vacuum attachments and manual” or “drill set” because it’s handy for the next person

We just used to sink a flower pot (or a 2L plastic soda bottle upside-down with one of the "feet" of it cut off to pour water in) in the ground next to our veggies at our old allotment to get continuous water lower to the roots... (Also helps roots establish far better/lower, meaning a healthier plant with better quality tomatoes etc.) The best way to water my house plants is to put the pot in the sink/bath and let it suck water upwards for a few hours once per week. Make those roots work and thrive as if it were in the ground :)

Pink Stuff is amazing! I use it in my kitchen, bathroom, on the grill, dirty sneakers, etc. It's cheap and the little tub lasts a very long time.
