West bound, Truckee… driving for Yellow/Roadway so teamster, pulled in twice. The memorable occurrence, was a check of my paperwork… told me that he could shut me down for something. I said, “go ahead; I make 25.40/hr to sit as a union driver.” He threw the log book back at me and told me to leave… He had no power over me. Bullies that can’t make it as an HP officer.

Late one night I had one tell me 500 feet from truckee scales at that agricultural inspection sight to pull it off to the side.. The way he motioned to me I could tell clear as day he was wanting to flex some abuse of power on me.. most likely bad mood. Well I was hauling milk that night, and I had been through there enough times to know they dont inspect milk in food grade tankers because in order to do that they have to cut the seals on the dome lid to take a sample. If the seals get cut/tampered with the customer will reject the entire load of dairy comodity costing the shipper and other parties involved the cost of the load. In some cases it can be $90,000 worth of cream or $70,000+ worth of milk in that particular case it would virtually end up being the state of California would have to buy the load over a bad decision made by a state employee, it would end up in court for sure. I just waived at him, and rolled on through and didnt bother stopping, pretty much did him a favor as well as myself I suppose otherwise there was no legit reason when the truck had a big billboard that said MILK.

@@ArizonaChris96 my dad was an owner/operator for 20 years he has pretty bad anxiety every time he sees a scale house. His more memorable story was scaling east bound Montana, weighed fine. Headed across the boarder into North Dakota. Before he got to the scales the car at the MT scale house passed him and was sitting parked next to the car at the North Dakota scale house… low and behold! He was over weight… interesting. They don’t take a check… only cash! (Someone wanted beer money for the night). I think dad had to cross another two scales before he delivered, no issues.

I told him I had a co-driver in the sleeper. He tossed the book back and said "hell, I can't figure that crap out get out of here". We both laughed and off I went.

Only thing wrong besides the tire that did not blow but lost air, that I had no idea about. I had gone slightly over my 14hr clock the day before and was cited. Back in the 70’s-80’s when the speed limit was the double nickel, Arizona compared your time when you went through the chicken coop at one end of the state on I-40 and the one at the other end and if you did it too quick, you got a ticket for speeding. One company I drove for had me in a short wheel base cab over intertrashnel with a 300 Cumins and a nine speed tranny. It had a little short gear shift stick on the dog house. Anyway, when I got a load maxed out at 80,000, I had to run with my fifth wheel adjusted way forward to be legal on my drive axles which gave me a really rough ride. I solved that by keeping the slide rails of my fifth wheel really slick and when I saw a sign that said for all trucks next exit for a chicken coop, I’d stop on the shoulder, unlock my fifth wheel, lock my trailer wheels and run the fifth wheel up front, lock the fifth wheel and go through the weigh station. After leaving it, I do that and stretch it out again. All the way back was center of my drive axles and tons more comfortable ride. The company had that cumins governed for 64 mph and it was a real dog on a hilly road. If you hit the bottom of a hill at 55 with the next hill directly ahead, you were down in the gearbox by the time you topped out on the next hill. The only way I could make any time at all was to use my “Oklahoma overdrive” going down hills.

Are you sure it wasn't '90? Back then the Inspection Station management in almost all of Cali became a little too brazen with their kickback schemes with road service operators. The FBI set up a sting with more than a dozen companies with brand new, pre inspected trucks. After 6 months of gathering the evidence (video, sound and paperwork trails) the arrest raids were coordinated across the state at the same time. They charged dozens of inspectors and supervisors with some pretty heavy federal crimes. The woman who ran the Truckee facility got 10 years. The dude that ran Banning got 5 years. Truckee, Banning and Tehachapi (Kern County), were shut down for close to a year...

That station at one time you had to stop and carry you paper work in, if you bypass you get lights there. That MD weigh station were its set at you can miss the sign, it set like in the middle and you actually have to know it’s there you ll mess it and you get light and they tell you to go back around then pull in

Even as a Greyhound Bus driver. I found the only scale in Iowa that scaled buses. Most of the time it was closed. But I left out of Omaha going East to Chicago and I was loaded. As we got close to that scale of course it was open. I pulled the bus over and told everyone on board what was going to happen. And that when we got there, for everyone to get off the bus, walk across the street to a gas station, and wait for me there. So I get to the scale, the inspector is looking right at me thru his window. I open the bus door, and everyone gets off the bus, and walks to the gas station. I close the door, and start moving towards the scale. The inspector is laughing his ass off. I'm on the scale waiting for the ok to leave, and finally get a "green light" and proceed off the scale. I pull the bus ahead a bit, open the door, and everyone gets back on board. I'm standing by the door of the bus helping people get back on the bus, and looking towards the Inspectors office, and he is just laughing. I ran that route for another 3 months. That scale was never open again.

I got my paperwork went inside, about 5-6 standing in line. I happen to notice the trucks were just rolling thru the scales, then I saw a Trooper trying to put paper in printer that printed the scale info for the desk. He would put the paper in, feed it up thru the printer, then as he leaned forward to hit start the toe of his boot would go down on the paper stack, causing it to rip out, time after time this happened, I tap the driver in front and showed him, then all of us were watching trying not to laugh..... I sure we all LMAO all the way to LA!

The mud flap itself was perfectly fine. Almost new. But the hanger bar was cock eyed. It effected nothing. But still.... D bags pulled me in and wrote me up for it. I sat there pointing out trucks with no mud flaps what so ever that drove thru and not one of them was stopped. I asked why is he giving me a ticket when several trucks went thru with no mud flaps. He wouldn’t say a word and just kept writing. I just took my ticket and left. Absolute d bag of u ask me.

Those scales you mentioned actually got theyre rear ends spanked hard by the higher up authorties over them. This happened in early 2000-2003 time period.. Those scales were writing over weight tickets, they wrote enough that it was making a lot of drivers as well as the trucking companies mad as hell. There was drivers who were smart enough to get a cat scale weight ticket as proof they were within the legal limit but as soon as they crossed those scales in Arizona they were immediately issued an over weight violation. This happened enough that finally the dot department that over sees all the other scale houses which operate in every state making sure they are conducting duties legally. Well big daddy reviewed an endless list of complaints that they decided they better find out what was going on. They weighed a few trucks prior before sending them through that scale house.. sure enough those trucks got popped for being over weight. That was the evidence Big daddy was looking for to take the next step and an investigation was quickly conducted. They determined that the scales had not been calibrated in over 3 years. Its manditory thatvevey state weigh station has theyre scales calibrated often so that it reads true. For 3 years they illegally collected money off of the backs of a lot of drivers and trucking companies. Arizona had to pay out a massive fine, the people incharge of running those scales wound up in a lot of hot water, and were fired. As part of the agreement after getting spanked, they could not weigh trucks crossing those scales for 3 years.

Never looked into it enough to confirm that tidbit of information. The only other stations that I tried my best to stay away from, back in the day was the one up in Williston, ND (Westbound) and (act surprised 😮) Gilroy, CA. Don't know if these locations are still up and running or not. What some drivers (and the personnel at the scales) forget is that the scales serve as a way to warn not just for safety purposes, but the road conditions as well. A place in Tacoma, WA had this intersection by the port with CLEAR GROOVES from heavy vehicle traffic. One fun and interesting fact is that (from my experience) military trucks seem to be exempted from scales. Probably because it’s the Federal Government and/or the loads are pretty much set and secured. This was over 20 years ago. Maybe not much has changed since. Truck safely! 😎🇺🇸💯

You sir……………….. Are 100% correct. I wish more people understood this concept: the more you comply, the more power you give away to the ones who steal your freedoms one by one. The thought is “well if I comply like the good little citizen that I am, then I’ll be a good boy that they are proud of”. Couldn’t be further from the truth. Human nature and the nastiness of it all, makes sure of that. Power corrupts, so the first time you cede your own free-will to someone else’s arbitrary wishes, is the first time you’ve just given into a form of slavery to another man.

Some older heads tell me that their age group doesn't share the knowledge to younger generation because most of them had to learn firsthand and hard way. Like they say "the game is to be sold, not told! Most people don't agree with that mentality towards younger people and choosing to not help because they hold grudges for being treated the way they were. Driving is experience. You don't just jump behind the wheel of a big CMV and automatically know how to drive. You can be taught and told, even shown the basics... but that doesn't make you experienced enough on a 10% downgrade, in an automatic ( many not knowing it can manual shift also ) to know letting it coast to 80+ mph with a 45mph curve coming up is NOT the thing to do. You see the newly replaced guard rails where this occurs. Common sense isn't instilled in many... you get accidents. You can talk, show, explain all you want... if the person isn't receptive, they're gonna have problems - even accidents. All it takes is you to turn that wheel a slight too quick for a wind gust to catch you at that exact moment and - over you go.
