My father is retired from Firestone, when he was there he tested the new batches of rubber to be used on the tire making line. Crews would wait for the ok to use that batch, if he called a batch a failure the crews would be extremely angry with him and tried to get him to ok bad rubber. The inspectors who wouldn't allow bad batches through were given unflattering nicknames and were mistreated by employees

Yup- wasn't there an even bigger food recall, in the last few years, though? I can't remember what it was right now, but I darn sure remember having to yank 1/2 the stuff out of our pantry, fridge, & freezer, bc whatever ingredient it was, was in most of my kids fav foods- some small little ingredient that was in TONS of food found in most households. Store shelves looked bare for a few weeks, bc of everything being removed, that had that ingredient... wish I could remember what it was, bc it was huge!

Memories. I had a set of those Firestone 721 tires. Had one explode on the interstate while in a hard curve in the road. I also had a problem with Ford throttle cables. in 1974 I was 19. The throttle cable on my 1966 custom broke. The replacement was different. They had replaced the crimped on dust shield with what looked like a plastic soda straw. It was on the eye that connected to the carburetor. When you let off the throttle, The eye would hit the straw and cock a bit on an angle. after a while, this would cause the cable to break, usually at full throttle. I got ripped a new one by a Ford engineer for being a "smart ass punk kid". A while later and a few death because of it, the cable was recalled. And don't forget about Aquadots. it was a kid's toy. It turned into GHB, the "Date Rape Drug" when ingested.

I have a faint memory of a peanut butter brand back home having made a lot of people I knew very sick. It's been some time since its happened, but I think it was because people were getting salmonella sickness from high amounts found in the one brand of peanut butter. It even made my caretaker at the time sick along with some of the other kids around my age that I knew of. I was still a bit young, so I may not have been told everything. Either way, it's something that still lingers in the back of my mind, especially since so many people that I knew got sick because of it, often needing a doctor

What you are saying is, basically, that Dodge is just as bad as Ford. All car makers have at least one pretty bad recall in their history, but ford knew that the Pinto would blow up when it was rear-ended and they sold it anyway. Crown Vics had a similar problem, and they had a long, ongoing problem with sudden unintended acceleration, which was a problem with the cruise control. Yes, many other car companies have serious issues, like the Corvair, but Ford has a crappy reputation when it comes to safety. All companies in general are willing to let people die for a profit. But the pinto was ridiculous. So, yes, he went after Ford. The reason he did do so in the first place was because it was one of the most documented recalls in history. Sorry for my speech there, my brain is kinda unfiltered right now. (Pretty, Mustang, by the way!)

What about Toyota? They had issues with the brakes on the camrys which caused some deaths, including a guy who worked where I did. He was riding in the back seat while his son and his son's girlfriend were in the front seat. They were on the freeway and the son suddenly had to brake, only nothing happened. The father who survived the resulting crash which killed his son and the son's girlfriend, remembered his son's last words as he repeatedly stomped on the brake pedal. He said, it won't stop, it won't stop!

The Ford/Firestone tire issue was both parties fault. Before the recall the recommended air pressure per Ford according to the Explorer door placard was 26psi. That was far too low for the vehicle to start with, and if memory serves Firestone told Ford that fact, but Ford bullied them into green lighting that air pressure because the Explorer had shitty ride quality. Couple already low air pressure with people being lazy and not checking their tire pressure, you had Explorers driving in southwestern states in the middle of summer with 15-20psi. Tires are vulcanized together with heat and in turn can separate from excessive heat. The lower the air pressure the higher the rolling resistance, which means higher operating temperature. After the recalls/lawsuits, Ford changed the recommended air pressure on the door placard for the Explorer to 33 psi front, 35 psi rear. Sorry, just I’ve just worked a long time in the automotive and tire field. It drives me nuts when people only blame Firestone for the incident. There’s people that to this day will not buy Firestone or Bridgestone because of this, yet they continue to buy Fords.

That's interesting. I've always heard the tires were defective because Firestone workers were on strike for better wages/working conditions. Instead of meeting with union reps to discuss matters, Firestone decided to hire scabs who didn't have the knowledge/experience necessary to meet quality control standards/guidelines. As a result the tires were defective.

  • @Mystwarrior1

Actually the ford/firestone fiasco was mainly the fault of ford. When people complained to ford about the tipping/top heavy they were actually INSTRUCTED by ford employees to let some air out of the tires. And with the high velocity spinning of the tires on freeway with under inflated tires it was an explosion waiting to happen. Unfortunately its been 10 yrs since i remember the actual chemistry makeup of what happens that makes the tires explode due to under inflation but yeah. Ford was at fault and tried to put the blame on firestone so that they could avoid the heat. And that's why it was top heavy argument vs under inflate argument.

We had a strict script to follow that was no real help at all. People were calling us while on vacation hundreds of miles from home, asking us if their cars were safe to drive home with their kids, and we were just blah-blahing then with meaningless garbage. I was of no help to anyone, save being a verbal punching bag, which is what the company hired us to be. I work for a major hospital, talk about recalls, how about having your Ventricular Assist Device, VAD, fail or be recalled? Leads, batteries, the device itself, all can fail. Here is one example: Medtronic said there is a possibility for an interruption to occur in the electrical connection between the system’s power source (battery, AC adapter, or DC adapter) and the HVAD controller. This interruption to the electrical connection, which occurs when the power source is still physically connected, is caused by oxidation on the connecting surfaces between the power source connector and the controller’s power source socket. The interruptions to the electrical connection could cause unintended intermittent electrical disconnection, which could result in a pump stop. A pump stop could cause patient harm such as exacerbation of heart failure symptoms, or symptoms such as mild weakness, dizziness, anxiety, nausea, loss of consciousness, or death.

Actually, the Tylenol tampered with was believed to have been from several different outlets. They did have one good suspect, someone who confessed and asked for a ransom to make the killings stopped. Nothing was ever proven though. If you're not from the Chicago area then you wouldn't know, but looking at the locations of the victims you could see they didn't buy these pills from the same store. Chicago is a big city with a lot of drug stores. It was spread out very wide. This was most likely done in a warehouse. I read a book about this case several years ago.

The problem is that they had evidence for the extortion but not for the poisoning so they could only charge him for what they had evidence for. How he worded his extortion is what got him out of poisoning crimes. There are people that believe he is responsible but because they didn't have the evidence for it, they couldn't try him for it.

I was MUSCs smallest baby on record, died almost ten times by the time I was three, my mom was so beyond angry and scared about the tommy tippers that she threw away every single plastic cup and toy we owned. From then on we had mainly wooden toys and were allowed to play video games. I remember my dad cut open one of my rubber bath toys and it smelt so disgusting that he threw up, he showed me why they were doing this and the toy was almost 90% covered in mold in the interior. It was truly vile!

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge also had known battery issues. The battery would overheat and swell, separating the case. Mine did it. I switched to the Galaxy S8+ for my primary, and a Huawei Y7 for my backup. No problems with them.

Profit for the investors is more important than the safety of the people. Look at any company owned by venture capitalists and you see the same thing over and over again. Profit over people. They have no loyalty to the employees. Only to the investors. Long established American companies moved manufacturing to China once they were bought out by venture capitalists. Let's line our pockets at any cost. Profits over people.

In China, all the companies belong to the government. The "executives" are under huge pressures to make profits and their bosses often look the other way. If it hadn't been for the Olympics being held in Bejing that year, likely no one would have heard a thing about the formula scandal. After all, what are the deaths of a few babies in a nation with billions of people?

Omg I know what you mean, I absolutely despise those extra pieces.. regardless of me doing my best to boil and sterilize those odd membranes and extra porous plastic bits should never ever be in baby products... Just stick to a sippy cup with minimum pieces... Although sometimes I think that the images shown the irresponsible Ness of some parents.. like your kid is going to lose one and months later that other one was finally found behind their toy box and it was simply unwashed.. then people do wash them and put them together completely wet... Therefore trapping in moisture... I'm not perfect and I certainly have done that before... But at the same instance there are instructions for safety that come with the cups and they explicitly say to dry each piece completely before assembling... Makes me wonder if it's just the fault of the parent and not the fault of the company due to improper hygiene techniques...🤔

There was an actual case where a woman was wrongly convicted in the death of her mother because of the fire caused by the cars ignition. They claimed she murdered her mother for life insurance after an accident claimed her mother's life. Her name was Sheila Bryan. I can't remember all the details but I saw this on a forensic show. Very sad. It was a 1987 Mercury Cougar

For those who died from Kuga went on fire, ford says it's their own fault to be brunt to death while the engine exploded. The car went on fire, why didn't he get out? Well. The doors also locked themselves as fire burns the control box. Want to risk your life in a ford? As for the recall. They literally look under the hood and told us it's ok. You can go now. Meanwhile the cars value dived for r300k to 50k over night and you still have to pay the bond on it.

I get a letter every day from Ford recall centers saying my 2010 Ford Fusion has faulty airbags. Except that I haven’t had that car in two years. And that I’ve called them and repeatedly told them that. And that because nobody ever registered the car after me, they’ll never stop until someone else registers it or they ditch the entire vehicle and VIN number.
