Idk I finished TMI, ID and TDA but I am still pissed that Cassandra didn't expand on the fairy world or actually used the magic system she created in the beginning (there are literally thousands of runes but we only see iratze being used) SPOILERS I really couldn't keep going after she just threw other dimensions into the mix like you have one fucked up world already how about you finish showing that one before jumping to an alternative ending eh? I felt that for the amount of books and pages there are in this fantasy world there is very little world building and to me the main characters are always annoying compared to the side characters I'd rather have a book of them (which there are thankfully)

I personally don't agree. I can't remember a single time that she did anything while we were with her. Everytime she would come back and say she did this, this and this I didn't believe because she'd immediately lose a fight with someone and act all pathetic and whiny. Celaena/Aelin always felt like a kid who told you she could do a trick on a skateboard then couldn't replicate it while you watched. Perfect example is in The Assassin's Blade. She yells at the other assassins for, rightfully, leaving the body of her mentor. She storms out to get the body herself. Then it cuts to 3 months later. All we get is her offhandedly saying she got the body. How? How in the magical frick frack did a 16 year old, carry the dead weight of a grown man out of a castle? How do you where his body was? And how did you do this with the castle swarming with guards and hunting for the other assassin who just murdered someone in the castle? We don't get an explanation. Therefore, it just piles onto the ever growing list of things she claims but never backs up.

@@lear0612 that was the point when I started to just wish someone would kill her. She whines so much in Heir of Fire. She complains that she's all alone but she has Chaol waiting, Rowan giving up his time to get her to understand her magic, and multiple people there that are supportive but oh yeah, so alone. And we already know she had family waiting for her. To make matters worse, they introduce an actual interesting character in Manon. Less bitchy faerie princess, more bad ass witch with a cinnamon roll wyvern!

One thing about throne of glass: you do have valid criticisms about the fact that it’s a fantasy romance and it does focus on the romance a lot. However, her being “Oh so pretty and oh so tiny” is not a thing in it. In her POV she mentions that she’s quite average looking and she’s also supposed to be pretty tall. I think the only reason why she’s skinny (at least in the first book) was because she had just been released from slavery

1.) She used cosmetics to improve her looks. 2.) When describing Lysandra, Manon, and Ansel, she was ordinary compared to them. 3.) When she was dancing with the ballerinas, she stood out because she was bulkier and taller. Soooo I agree. People jump to conclusions without actually reading the series. Which is sad.

@@mindylemons8772 I just pulled up a sample of the book and I think you're right; the quote is "In short, Celaena Sardothien was blessed with a handful of attractive features that compensated for the majority of average ones; and, by early adolescence, she'd discovered that with the help of cosmetics, these average features could easily match the extraordinary assets." Although to be fair, the previous few sentences also describe her eyes and hair in vivid detail and states that she was "a girl of former beauty" so I think that's where most of the mix up is coming from.

As a 5 foot nothing, 100lbs woman, I love the trope of having tiny little women being super strong because I was also a jockey so I was actually really damn strong compared to pretty much anyone who never works out. I am super small, but every part of me during that time of my life was muscle. I would ride 15-20 head of horse every day, 6 days a week, from 4am until noon. I cannot tell you how deeply it bothered me that no one saw me as strong. Same thing for the male riders, those guys are unbelievable strong. Their hands are so damn bulky from the muscle they develop from holding the reins of a 1,000lbs animal pulling against them but because they are under 5 foot tall, other men think they are fight them and win, and after seeing a lot of bar fights, I can tell you that a professional athlete standing 4'10 is going to beat the shit out of the 6 foot dude with a beer belly. I don't hate the trope for two main reasons, one, because it makes me feel represented and two, because in real life it is not a trope. A small, professional female athlete is rarely viewed as strong. It is assumed that an average man could still beat them in a fight due to size alone. Think of Ronda Rousey, woman is one of the best fighters in the world and she gets that shit all the time. She is actually not very big, she weighs 135lbs and a lot of people say that a big man without training would be able to take her on...it is so incredibly wrong, insulting, and sexist. I get why the trope is hated in books, because the opposing force of society expecting women to be slim and small to be attractive and you wouldn't want your main female character to be unattractive right? But female athletes like Rousey or female jockeys might be thin, but not in the traditional feminine attractive way. Your stomach goes in, your legs and arms are disproportionately large, you have small breasts, etc. I completely disagree with having physically strong female characters being turned into this masculine ideal, exceptionally large, hulking, broad, etc. To do so is to say that only females who are able to closely mimic the masculine version of strength could ever possibly be strong. That is not true in real life and it is an insult to female athletes who have heard that all of their lives. It hurts to spend your entire life working your body to the bone to hear someone imply that because you are small you could be beaten by a man no matter what you do. You are told your body is unattractive because of the muscle development, and you are told your body is weak because of your gender. I get the rational for rejecting the small female fighter in the name of feminism, but it is extremely misguided. Just write small female warriors with bodies like Ronda Rousey, thin, yes, but incredibly muscular.

The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa was my favorite and I know a lot of people's favorite Fey series. I haven't read it in like 8 years but when I look back I don't have the feeling of cringe that I feel with other YA's from that time. I loved them all then but this one had a different feeling. The first one is okay but the series kept getting better. There is a love triangle but I don't hate it and I felt like the main girl was built up really well through the rest of the series leading up to war. Like I said, I read this when I was younger so I can't defended with my whole heart. But I think it's worth a try.

Examples, Aelin and the 'candies'. WE ARE NOT TRAINING TO BE ASSASSINS. And you cannot expect the character to be flawless when a series starts. If she is perfect and her relationships are out of a fairytale(at the beginning ),what's the point in reading it? It's completely okay to not like a book or critique it ,but without trying to take the minor flaws in the first book of a series and exxagerating it to no end ,it'll be better to be open minded and just except the fact that nothing is perfect. (+you cant read the first two books in series and and tell that it's trash. As I said before,if she is all so perfect at the beginning no one would want to read it. :)

However, it also didn't suit me as much.

I haven't read the rest, might cross Wrath of the Dawn off my list - cannot stand romanticised abusive relationships which seems like a theme with some popular books on Booktube? Anyway, really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on these!

Hi there. Mine would be the Shadowhunter series, the Twilight saga, and the Vampire Academy. Also the Mayfair Witches series by Anne Rice. I also did not finish the A Discovery of Witches series by Deborah Harkness. Her info dumping was way too much. Last, I tried to read the Passage and I could not get into it.

Okay so cruel prince isn’t really meant to be romance in the first book, Cardin is more meant to be the antagonist than anything else until about halfway through the second book. If you decide to finish the series, you just have to keep that in mind!

Thank you for mentioning Eragon! From what I’ve seen, it’s a rip-off if Lord of the Rings, but ...DRAGONS. Also, couldn’t stand Uglies. I swear ‘bubbly’ was used in every sentence and i don’t even know what it means

The fault in our stars, the characters are so ridiculously, insufferably pretentious, I cannot, for the life of me, understand what's up with them, I hate it. It also helps that I've been to a support group for people with life threatening diseases and this books shines such a poor light in my people, we are not that stupid, we care about our health - looking at you five feet apart - I hate how "brave" Hazel is for not properly categorizing her pain because she was "saving the 10" for the pain of losing Gus, the system exists for a reason, and feeling pain doesn't make you weak, denying pain doesn't make you strong, Hazel is such a "not like other girls", that whole book is a slap in the face for people dealing with life ending problems - not speaking for everyone, but for everyone who I've talked to about the subject - it honestly pisses me off how much people love that train wreck of a book.

Warcross was so terrible holy.... I'm interested to hear your thoughts if you end up reading her latest series, as I'm not sure I will be giving her a second chance!

A good (adult) series about dragons is the Memoirs of Lady Trent by Marie Brennan. I love that series so much, can't resist sharing the love!

as a shadowhunters chronicles fan, I like to forget that the whole incest part of the mortal instruments happened. just 'cause someone likes the shadowhunters doesn't mean they support incest lol . but the other trilogies that take place in the world are actually pretty good!

If you want a good dragon book try the dragonriders of pern. Its more science fiction than fantasy but is soo good.
