WORST plane I've built in years! The Nexa Piper Tri-Pacer, sold by MotionRC.

Ойындар

I had such high hopes for this plane, but it was one of the most frustrating ARFs I've ever assembled. I almost gave up on it several times as I was building it. Thank goodness it flies so well or I would have probably already trashed it. Doubt I will buy another Nexa plane from Motion unless they fix the quality issues.

    I had this plane for two flights including the death crash. It flew well, but I lost some orientation and stalled it that led to an uncontrolled spin onto asphalt roadway. I had the same observations as this video showed.

    To be fair I have had a few other Motion products and they have been great. Freewing and Black Horse models have all been excellent quality for me, just the Nexa stuff that has been questionable.

    I just purchased this plane, used, from someone who identified exactly the same issues and corrected them. The previous owner was shocked at the number of problems that existed. He had to remove the covering and fix a number of potentially fatal issues. I also own another Nexa product, the Ju-52, and I can attest to the lousy covering that this company uses. It's that cheap, printed material that wrinkles the minute you take it out into the sun.

    VQ models are the same as Nexa. They are only branded Nexa for MotionRC. Here In New Zealand, Australia, and the UK they are known as VQ models. I have Two of their ARFs. Monaro and the P40. With both I threw away the hardware and used Dubro, and Sullivan. Eflight retracts. They are okay for the money spent, but you have to kit bash to get the best out of them. Easier and cheaper than stratch building

    Years ago having built and tested many ARF, RTF, and Kit foam planes i can understand when you are talking about cheap hardware and parts which don't quite fit. Those ratchet type of control horns on plane waiting to crash. I either replaced them or used CA to glue the tab on. I used Z bends or replaced the servo connector. On mounting the wing on, several times the bolts didn't line up with the bolt or were crooked and ended up getting crossed threaded.

    I am currently building the Wendell Hostetler Third scale model of the Piper tripacer P22. It is a gasser!! 70cc twin. By the time I got all the parts for a scratch belt. My accumulated cost is $3400.00 !! So I find roughly $ 280.00 inexpensive. But I will build it because I can. The bigger planes fly a lot easier. Therefore, I am happy to hear that, You think it flies just great.

    That's heck of a large plane. And yes larger planes fly better. Years ago I had a 85 inch ws Tri Pacer powered by a 45 cc no name Chinese motor. Had to admit it worked well and gave the plane realistic and decent aerobatic flight characteristics.

    Hey, thank you for taking the time to make this great review. Our hobby NEEDS more people like you , who can put out CANDID content like you do. I will no longer buy this plane so just saved me $300. Not to diss other reviewers, but... Theres nothing more annoying than watching a BS review from the RC Sailors or Brian Phillips, then buying a crappy product because they pretend its all groovy. Guessing they're not allowed to point out the bad. Sure they pump out a ton of videos and they are useful, but we all know its always a marketing show with them. Thanks again.

    I just received the nexa Bonanza in the mail and found its a fixed gear version you'd think they would put standard retracts with it but no. So to make the model like it should be you have to purchase for a retract set for another $139.00. I already paid $269.00 for it. I might just send it back. The sticker covering is cheap as shit, who ever heard of a 4 door Bonanza I mean really? Kits not worth $50.00, cheap crap.

  • @TheDornado

    It really is a shame because they make so many cool models in wood that other manufactures don't. Sorry to hear about the Bonanza. Thank you for putting in the time and effort on this review. My goal is to find a giant ARF tricycle gear trainer, balsa not foam, electric powered, that can fly slow and gentle enough for me as a beginner to fly. I do not want or need something that is small, fast, or is a tail dragger. I have experience building (and subsequently repairing) large ARF gas planes but not flying. Provided I am prepared to deal with the shortcomings with the hardware, would this be a good plane for learning to fly? If not, do you know of ANY other planes that have the features I want? I haven't been able to find any. Thanks!

  • @TheDornado

    @TheDornado

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question, there really isn't much to chose from for what you are looking for. I would not recommend this plane as a first. If you are looking for a pure trainer check out the Kadet LT-40 from Sig. All wood ARF with a 70" wingspan, so bigger than the tri-pacer and it is a wonderful plane. If you want bigger, the only one I really know of is the Trainer V2 from Pilot RC, 90" wingspan but depending on where you live, they can be tough to find. I don't know of any American dealers that carry it. And they are pricey. I personally would go with the Sig, and I believe they are expecting a shipment in November. Either way I highly recommend finding someone to help teach you. Since you have building experience I am guessing you know some people who can help. Having an instructor and using a sim before I ever went to the field made my first few flights so stress free and I still have the trainer 30 years later:) Hope that helps!

  • @6StringPassion.

    @6StringPassion.

    Жыл бұрын

    @@TheDornado WOW. I had no idea that the SIG LT-40 was an option. I looked at the '40' in the model number and assumed it was a smaller plane for some reason. 70" wingspan rocks. The only thing it doesn't offer ... flaps, which I do want. I wonder if it's possible to add flaps, considering the ailerons are so narrow. Regardless it's certainly more to my liking than the smaller tri-pacer. I agree with everything you said about learning. Thank you so much for responding!

    It's more about value than price. For that same amount of money you can get the Valiant from Hangar 9 and get a much better ARF or for only 220 get the Stinson from Phoenix. If this plane had been 220 or equal quality to the Valiant I would have no issues, but they are charging too much for the low quality IMO.

    What I do now is look through the manual online before even considering one. You can usually tell, by looking through the manual if it has good hardware or any weird/bad steps. Not perfect but if they have a plane you REALLY want it is at least a start. But yeah, i will be very hesitant before buying another one. I was happy to be rid of this one.
