worst panel design ever!!! I even doubted my own abilities to complete it.

What an event this was!! It makes me wonder how designers are able to qualify as designers when I get presented with things like this. I may have been slightly at fault by wanting to get the job completed as it was my last week but I should have realised the design was below par. I'm sorry the video is soooooo long but I couldn't omit what I wanted to say about the work that was involved. I think this is the longest video I've ever posted.

    That amount of space for the size of cable is pretty ignorant of the person who designed the panel. But I guess it's not them who have to terminate it. It's right up there with floor mounted panels with the DIN rail terminals at the base virtually touching the bottom, making it very hard to terminate into them.

    Definitely. They must be given a spec of some kind. I feel they just ignore it and design what they feel like anyway.

    Feel your pain on this one. MCC designers should be made to do a few terminations themselves just to see how difficult it is with larger SWA cables. On a couple of occasions we had a new top hat box made to replace the gland plate this gave us an extra 400mm to play with but it would be nice if designers and builders thought more about the termination process.

    Hello, excellent Job. I think the solution to your issue will be to install the glands One in Front of the Other, this will allow you to do one at a time and give you room to maneuver without crossing conductors..so measure the correct fit on the first and repeat the measurement on the next two as they are to be exactly the same. therefore you can also bend them outside the cabinet. just my opinion... I admire your patience and tenacity and job quality, as I will be a fountain of 👹👺😡 $*#*&*()^ coming out of my mouth dealing with such a job. Best of future...

    Mmm spreader box or not ?, 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other, with spreader box definitely easier to terminate but where to gland off. more difficult to bend 240s into the top of spreader box depending on height of box if not impossible. To gland into the side 240s look like they would end up hanging in fresh air with no containment, as you say the job not been thought out. Think you did a great job with those 240s in trying conditions, enjoy your videos I'm sure 2000 subs + await your channel.

    I needed the drop at the back to get the cables in straight. As soon as you bend cables that big you can't get the lock nuts on because the gland is at an angle.

  • @florisvdk
    @florisvdk2 жыл бұрын

    Why not put the holes for the glands in a diagonal line? It will not look as nice on the outside but if they would remove the need for the bending forward in the panel.

  • @jointechcabling9103

    In order to get the length I needed to terminate each core I had to put them all at the back because that's where the space inside was. If I hadn't of hit that space I would never have been able to bend the cable out of the front of the panel because they're just too big. Plus, once it's been bent, the gland never sits flush to the plate and you struggle to get the lock nut on.

    Only about 25 mins into video Must have been designed for single cores onto busbar. No way the manufacturer can expect that size multicore cables to be glanded dressed and terminated in that amount of room. Maybe an extension box on top to gland into the side and allow more room to work cables inside enclosure. Tricky one pal. Well done for efforts

    Thing is, I've seen this hundreds of times before and the manufacturer actually does expect that size multicore cable to be glanded, dressed and terminated in that amount of room. It's crazy but the people designing the panels have never glanded a cable off in their life before - sheesh ! Hence that's what you end up with.

    Great job terminating those 240’s in that minute space you had! It’s tidy and it’s safe so no need to beat yourself up. As my dad used to say “It’s better than it was for it’s as bad as it is.” Looking forward to the next one! Btw was that the same room as you were in the other week when you were having a little moan? 😀

    Should have refused todo it. The feedback might then have gone back to the manufacturer who designed and built the not fit for purpose pannel. Or I was thinking a big trunking on the top, jigged out to give some more space. You do need amazing getting it in by the way, well done.
