I bought my copy at his show at Lafayette’s Music Room last Wednesday on 4/10/24. I figured he’d get a bigger cut if I bought it from there rather than Amazon but I’ve been sending everyone the same link. I read it in two days.

Years ago my band, The Woodhonkys, played at this rural Tennessee bar called North Inn. My cousin Myra described it to my dad as a place where if you don't have a gun going in, they issue you one at the door.

haha, I played 'Redneck Mother' at a dive bar gig last weekend. A drunk guy fell off his seat in the middle of the song, quite fitting.

I partied with him at Wuenche Brothers in Spring on year in the 80s, hes so funny he'll hurt you laughing. He got a kick out of me not knowing how to close his bus door cause I was too drunk, but he sat there and listened to me play a sing for him and we got blitzed. The very next year I saw him again and we were both sober, at least I was for a while.. Hes a National treasure since I consider Texas it's ownself.

I just love old Ray! "Redneck Mother" was one of the first songs they would let me sing back in the early 70's! I've been a huge fan since! He's been doing pretty good lately since his wife got him sobered up and working. His son has been playing guitar in his little 3 pc trio, he's really proud about that. A couple of his recent albums are really good too!! He's a national treasure for folk music IMO!! So glad to see that! And he always makes me laugh!! 8) Peace --gary

I’ve talked with him multiple times, but one time in 2014 was the best. It was after a show, and I mentioned a concert some years ago that my Ex had bought me VIP tix for which included a meet and greet. Long story short, he spent MAYBE 5 minutes in the room with about 100 people. When I mentioned this to him, he remembered the show called the GM of the local TX/Red Dirt station ( you prolly know it, since your in its RANGE), a JackAss cause he sold VIP tix with a meet and greet without ever telling him.

Some of the best bad gig stories I’ve ever heard. I think as Musicians, even if we don’t have a gig now but are used to play at some point… We long to hear each other‘s horror stories. I had a of mine who was playing for an 88-year-old man’s BD party. He plays sax and fronts the band. When the old birthday boy comes out to dance with his wife, he drops of a heart attack right in front of the stage, and in front of my friend! When he told me this, I had my mouth open and just asked what he did. He said somebody motions him to just keep playing while they took care of the old guy…and the band played on…
