Not sure how old you are, but back in 95 when my cities team played NY in the NBA Finals, and when Houston beat NY the SI magazine didn't even make a championship issue originally bc they were so butt hurt, eventually we got a really late issue bc.

I feel bad for the fans of these teams who have been patient with these teams for decades hoping for a successful season. Overall, the location of these teams does play a part on why some of them aren't successful right now. Not just the fact that most here are in small markets, but weather plays a part too on why some star free agents choose to play in certain cities. Teams like the Lakers and Heat have been successful in recent years/decades because of where their location. Imagine if Vegas had an NBA team.

The Timberwolves also got caught trying to do an illegal trade for Joe Smith (who wasn't even that good), and were punished by forfeiting a whole bunch of draft picks. In the 2009 draft they had the 5th and 6th overall picks and drafted two point guards, but neither of them was Stephen Curry who ended up being picked number 7 by Golden State.

I remember the early 90s Mavericks were so bad that the NBA seriously considered relegating them and replace them with another team

As an NY resident, it's truly heartbreaking to see the knicks struggle like this. I know I have the nets, but still... If they make better draft picks (as they have slowly started to do in recent years), they could come back. RJ Barret was a step in the right direction.

That's because they haven't existed that long, they were founded in 1995. In the NBA there are more teams that repeat or go back to the finals year after year, so while not making the finals since 1995 isn't great it's definitely not awful. The Grizzlies have made a conference finals and they've had many winning seasons. If you look at the teams that have been founded from 1988-present (Hornets, Heat, Magic, Timberwolves, Raptors, Grizzlies, Pelicans) only 3 of the 7 have made the finals (Heat, Magic, Raptors). With the Suns, they shouldn't be on the list either, because while they've never won, they've had many winning seasons. They were really good from 2004-10, and the have been great the last two seasons despite playoff failures.

The Grizzlies are a lot newer, they started in 1995 and even then they've already made a conference final in 2013. Considering it took the Clippers 51 years to do that, theyre not that bad. And Phoenix has had consistently great teams over the decades, from Barkley, to Nash, to where they are now. They've also been to the Finals three times, lost once to Boston in 1976 which included a 3 OT game, once to Jordan, and obviously to Milwaukee last year.

They love their team, it's just the personnel in those organizations are not running it right. That's the soul crushing part of it. Note that this does not take into account the residual value of the team's old arena and the naming rights (this is worth more for big market teams and especially if you are willing to name it after some cryptocurrency company which may not even exist in 20 years. This amount to about $200 million to $700 million). - Strictly from a mathematics standpoint, moving from a small market to a big market is likely to increase the team's valuation by at least $1 billion, which will more than likely cover the costs of a new arena. Anything in excess is profit! P.S. I meant this as a fun though experiment... I fully understand that moving a team's location is likely to be stupid and unrealistic move, e.g. why would a team give up their existing fan base which is a key source of revenue and go to a new location where you may be hated.

Adam Silver has proven considerably less tolerant of bad owners, so I wouldn't expect such a trick to work with him. And any construction in a major market will have a major price tag - Chase Center cost close to $1.5 billion and Intuit Dome is expected to cost over $2 billion, with zero public funding for either. And the Warriors didn't own Oracle and the Clippers don't own Staples, so no recouping any expenses. If you find yourself wondering why no one has tried your simple but genius idea yet, the reason is usually that you aren't really as clever as you think you are.

It’s simultaneously unbelievable & very believable why the Hornets are still an average team under MJ’s tutelage… He’ll never get out of his own way & must be an nightmare to be their coaching staff. The timberwolves are actually pretty good this year, with the core of KAT and ANT and the defense of vanderbilt, i expect them to make the conf finals in 2023

Me and my dad are huge Minnesota fans (also a Boston fan!) and we’re very happy with our current situation

yeah but maybe they considered that they had Shaq and Dwight, Tmac, and penny. They’re a liiiittle iconic in a way i guesss. Even though they should be switched with a team that made it to the video.

To be fair, the Pelicans are still a relatively new franchise. Just give them a bit more time to develop and they will eventually make the cut.

Taking Bagley over Luca is the one that really hurts, as Bagley sure does have a ceiling that screams middle to late first round based on his roll player stats (I don’t think he is a bust, but he should not have been taken in lottery

Of all bad draft picks to show the Kings making, you pick Zach Collins who wasn't even picked by them. He was picked by the blazers via trade and was never on the Kings. Smh.

Kings have had some really fun and good players in their history they've just never been able to put it all together. I blame bad coaching and bad ownership for a lot of it.

I remember the Rock doing that…on the opposite end Lakers fans rejoiced for a 3-Peat in those days. Haha Those Kings teams were fuckin GOOD ! I’d put them 02 Kings against some teams today !
