I find the content extremely interesting and am so glad that you are alright. I hope to see this channel for quite some time to come. Keep up your amazing good work.
Jason, you've redefined the term "Nailed the landing". On a much more serious note I'm so glad you are ok. Thank you for not making a cliff hanger in this episode and I look forwards to your next video. Wish we got Sam's reaction to this whole thing on tape.

FOD - Foreign Object Damage is deadly. In 2000, the Concorde Air France flight 4590 suffered tire damage on takeoff. In 2003, Space Shuttle Columbia suffered damage to its thermal protection tiles on takeoff, though maybe that's stretching the definition of FOD. In 2009, "Captain Sully" on US Airways flight 1549 suffered damage from bird strikes. Flying is still the safest way to travel. Grateful you're okay, Jason.
When I was learning to fly, my landings were not very good. I was complaining to my instructor that my landing were "bad." He said, "...a good landing is one you can walk away from. A great landing is when you can walk away AND still use the plane." Definitely a good landing! Glad to see you're OK. I will keep this incident in mind every time I land. You've just made me (and the aviation community) a little safer. Thank you!
So glad that you were not seriously injured. As they say any landing you walk away from is a good landing, this is a good testimony of that.
Glad you're OK Jason. Replacing an airplane is easy. Replacing you is impossible. Great job at salvaging the landing.

I am Happy that you walk away! My flight instructor had the same thing as you. And he told me one thing. When the plane pulls hard in one direction upon touchdown and you're still fast enough. Step into the rudder immediately. As long as the rudder is flown quickly enough, you can use the leverage to compensate for a flat tire. This is also the reason why we check the taxiways and runway for objects at least twice per flight day at our small airfield. Exactly that is also the Concorde's undoing.
Happy to see you’ve survived this crash. Greetings from the Netherlands
OMG! when I heard about that on the local news it never occurred to me it could be you! So glad you walked away!
Really glad you are safe and healthy Jason. It is so sobering that such seemingly minor things could easily lead to tragedy, just one circumstance or mistake can become very serious. I can tell that this was a huge impact and only further increases your respect for safety with general aviation. Thank you for sharing.

Not really a great mindset to have that you "got it out of the way", as that would imply nothing bad could happen in the future. Another accident is just one complacent day or bad decision away.

@@Zalaniar I am sorry if you think that is what it means. It obviously dose not mean to be complement. Been flying GA for 30 years and heard it many times. Just like there are those that have had gear up landing and those who have not yet. I never took that to mean I am going to have one. I think you read to much in to this statement. Things like this accident can make some people never fly again makes them afraid to get back on the hoarse.
That looked like a rivet stem that was stuck in the tire. Glad you're safe!!
That reminds me of our FOD walkdowns in the Navy, small parts on the ground can cause huge issues in the air, so glad you are ok and may God keep you safe.

The takeaway is don't get discouraged but get a lot more dual training and continue onward, being smarter for the experience.
Had a similar thing happen to me a few years back. Had a frozen brake on the left main on my then 172. Skidded off the runway, through a BIG snow pile. Took out the prop, nose gear, windshield plus sudden stoppage on the engine. Your right you don't have time to think, that's when your training automatically kicks in. Once she came to a stop I had the fuel off, mags & Master off and I was out of the plane looking and thinking whet happened. Glad You OK. The plane can always be fixed!!
I'm so glad you're ok man. God Bless
I'm a pilot, and even though I always take my pre-flight check seriously, watching this will certainly make me EXTRA cautious from now on! Keep up the great work, been following RR since Ep. 1 of the 401 and absolutely love it! I know we've never met, but I'm really relieved you're OK, planes are awesome and it hurts to see them get damaged, but in the end of the day, they're things that can get fixed and even make them better, as you said, and for sure will be the case. Big hug to you and the team from an Uruguayan pilot living in Brazil.
Hi, 200 years ago when I was in the army, I had a roommate that was a crew chief on hueys. Every morning all of the units that used that part of Biggs Field would get together and do a massive police call to pick up items like what you found in your tire. They called it F.O.D.

@Lynn Michalla Bindert FOD is the acronym for Foreign Object Damage. Walking the FOD line is standard operation on all airforces around the World. FOD damage and birdstikes are the Nr. one hazzard for military pilots. p.s. Didn't know Napoleon had an air force 🙂

@@trespire It's both. If it's laying on the ground or not from the aircraft, it's Foreign Object Debris. If it's what's done to the aircraft it's Foreign Object Damage. Also, if it's a part of the plane, like an engine intake ingesting a rivet from the wing or a loose bolt jamming a control cable, it's called Domestic Object Damage (DOD).

So glad you're ok. Love your story and video content. Agree with previous posts on catching FOD with a magnet. (Not being a pilot, maybe this is already being done around airports) I've been in a few high end RV resorts and have seen maintenance workers pull a 3-4 foot wide magnet (on wheels) behind a golf cart up and down the travel lanes of the property. You'd be surprised what they pick up. This process is very appreciated by the guests who would otherwise have to replace an expensive tire. Could save a life with other applications.

Glad you are safe. Take a picture of the item next to a ruler and send to FAA investigators, hopefully they can figure out where it came from and how to prevent happening in the future. Every time you fly any plane you should have 2 GoPros set up in the cockpit so you can record the flight details and maybe learn and teach something from the flight. Glad you figured out what happened so quickly.
