@@KDill29 you do know that just because an Official or Officials have/has a brain fart, or even brain farts, that doesn't mean shit is rigged. Have Officials AND players been caught cheating before (usually for $$$$)? Of course the answer is yes but, that doesn't mean there are men and women standing behind the curtain pulling strings. I'll be willing to go this far down The Rabbit Hole and agree that.....if there are blatant 'mistakes' made by officials, coaches, and players.....something stinks. There are though, honest mistakes and miscues....that's just a part of everyday life. That 5th Down play somehow got by seemingly everybody (including the losing team) from down on the field and up to the Coaches Box and even the Commentators calling the game for Mizzou on the radio. Everyone got caught up in the clock ticking away, and the Official with the Down Marker didn't advance it after the first spike by the QB, and the rest just went by what was on the Down Marker when he spiked it the 2nd time, and it said 3rd Down lol. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and everyone watching and loving any Sport should use what we didn't have back then.....Social Media....and call out the 'mistakes', and hold feet to the fire of those in charge. Anyone caught cheating, in any way, needs to be punished severely if need be. For me, that especially goes for those who are 'taking dives', faking injuries to stop the clock. Falling down and faking an injury used to just be prevalent in Footy (Soccer) but, not only is it continuing in that Sport, it's seen far too often in American Football. Time after time we see healthy players just dropping (often cued by teammates) to the ground. Sometimes, after Team Trainers come out, they hop back up and trot to the sideline. Other times they at least put a little effort in a limp or wobble, only to be seen moments later doing perfectly fine on the sideline and then returning to the game in ship shape. That needs to be nipped in the bun (or butt) now, and those caught behaving like a prat should receive an Unsportsmanlike Conduct Penalty, marched off against their team and if done enough, costing their team 15 yards every single time....just maybe they will stop that behavior.

Central Michigan was not supposed to reward the football 🏈 untime after Oklahoma State penalized for intentional grounding. The referees and replaying crew got suspended as well.

The non-facemask on Eric Crouch is one of the craziest missed calls I've ever seen. He's lucky he wasn't seriously hurt with how hard his head snapped around.

They still missed the worst part of the Oregon-Oklahoma onside. Not only did it not go 10 yards, Oregon didn’t recover the ball. An OU running back came away with it and was about 15 yards away when the refs got to the bottom of the pile and said Oregon ball.

I always wondered at what point did any referee actually see an Oregon player with the ball…he couldn't have, because the ball squirted out the back of the mass of bodies and an OU player (Patrick, I believe) rolled out of the pile with it.

I am an Oregon fan and was in the student section for this game. Jumped the wall and rushed the field after the game and all that! Then saw the replay at home the next day and was like, wow... OU got screwed. lol. My apologies!

Bell leads with shoulder? Check. Bell aims for defender's midsection? Check. Bell keeps feet and doesn't launch himself at the defender? Check. The defender got his clock cleaned, plain and simple. Like Gus Johnson said, that's football. It was crazy that Iowa was down 31-7 and came back 31-24 just to get the game ruined.

Guys, I remember somebody made a video on the 5th down game. (0:39) and turns out, there was a heart attack going on at the Colorado sideline, so they didn’t update the downs marker.

That’s true, but every official still has a down market on their hand. Between every official at least one should have had their down marker on their last finger on fourth down.

These were all beyond any doubt "Bad calls". However, half of them really had me asking "What crack are these ref's smoking????"

Yes, a lot of these were before review was an option. The refs call was the end of discussion for that play. Refs had big sway on a games outcome. More than a few were caught gambling on games they officiated. Some were just legitimate bad calls (ref at a bad angle, wasn't looking at that particular spot, to far away) but some were all about getting paid.

College refs are absolutely horrible. Literally every single game I watch it’s full of phantom holding calls, missed passed interference, and every single player that accidentally bumps heads with another play is thrown out for targeting and is suspended for another game.

The sad part is that the opposite can be said to be true as well. The lack of consistency with calls is truly what plagues college football. To this day we still have no definitive rule for pass interference other than "unwritten rules" which ARE SUBJECTIVE. Saban said it best in an interview when asked about interference calls when he stated that if he had written rule for what his DBs aren't allowed to do then he would coach that. Referees are human and humans have biases even subconscious bias that they may not be aware of that affects how they call a certain play. IMO all sports should purely have technology determine these things. Forget the "tradition" or whatever the excuse is.

That last play, I didn't know the Calvin Johnson rule happened in college too! There shouldn't be any "complete the process of a catch" in the end zone. You don't have to tackle him. The play was complete as soon as both feet (actually he got 3 feet) came down.

The Colorado one gave them a championship. Without that 5th down, Georgia tech would have unanimously won it that year instead of sharing it

2:25 I was focusing so much on whether or not his feet were in bounds that it took me a few looks to notice that he didn't even catch the ball. That's pretty funny.

That OU x Oregon one was tough at the time. Not only did the kicking team touch the ball before 10 yards, they interfered with the receiver and, on top of that, OU came up with the ball. Later in the drive they upheld a pass interference call when the ball had been tipped at the line of scrimmage.

What am I missing? An oklahoma player touched the ball first. If you looks closely, the ball bounces off an OU players helmet at 12:31 before anybody else touches it

Not to mention the pass that should've given OSU a set of downs for kneeling. Yea, sorry not sorry, Miami shouldn't have even made it to OT. The idea THAT decided the game is laughable.

Penn State “catch” so far out of bounds is the horrible call I’ll never forgive or forget.

I was at that Wisconsin vs. Northwestern game that’s at the end of the video. There were so many horrible calls made by the refs that benefited Northwestern during that game. It left me with a sour taste in my mouth and it sucked because that was the first college football game I went to.

The amount of times PAC officials get suspended is kind of outrageous. In 2012 the officiating crew for the Arizona OSU game got suspended after clear favoritism, I believe the crew for the ASU Wisconsin game a few years ago got it as well after they just let the clock run out by not placing the ball for Wiscy

This is why you don't just let any dope be an official. These refs are all dopes

No list would be complete without 1997, the phantom pass interference call on Minnesota that gave #1 Penn State the opportunity to take the lead. Joe Paterno even admitted Minnesota outplayed and outcoached Penn State that game. Similar thing happened in overtime in 2006.

Those are two examples of the State Penn Inmates having the officiating crews in their pockets, which is one of the reasons I have never recognized that school as part of the Big Ten, the other being regionalism as Pennsylvania is not in the Middle West, but, clearly in the Northeast. As for the Maryland Twerps, the other (and, in this case, primary) reason is one Gary Williams, who evidently never really planned on staying at Columbus for the long haul as he was always taking interviews elsewhere. As the Dean of Central Ohio sportscasters, Jimmy Crum, said live on Newswatch 4 (WCMH-TV) regarding Williams: "Good riddance!"

The safety on grounding play hit Nebraska as well once, where the QB threw it from the 1 yard line but it wasn't reviewable. It's astonishing to think that could happen at the 4 yard line.

It's that kind of hit that shattered Keith Rivers's jaw in the NFL; a Hines Ward-type blindside against a player who can in no way defend himself. I couldn't agree at all with Gus Johnson; *that's* the kind of play they want out of the game for the safety of the players.

Oh, don't give me that bologna about the Miami Ohio State national championship. The defender clearly had his back to the ball, with no intention to make a play on the ball, and bumped the receiver before the ball got to him. That was a good PI call. If you want a bad call from that game, there was a 3rd down play that Ohio State converted and it would have all but sealed the game in regulation for an Ohio State win, but the refs called him out and the pass incomplete, so Ohio State had to punt

Two plays: Tackle of Desmond Howard in end zone on two-point conversion try in University of Michigan vs Michigan State; and Ohio State vs Clemson in 2019 when Ohio State's Okuda strip of ball was called correctly on the field but. despite obvious confirmation on replay, was reversed and called an incomplete pass with receiver having the ball and taking about three steps before the ball was knocked out.

I was at the Wisconsin game against Northwestern. Nobody in the crowd knew what they were even reviewing. It was as clear as day TD to everyone. You can hear the pure shock in the crowd reaction that they overturned it.

Add that Auburn/Arkansas fiasco from yesterday. An obvious fumble determined to be an incomplete pass in the waning seconds allowing time for Auburn to kick the winning field goal.

Me at 1:45: Wait a minute, Washington benefited from a bad call? Me at 9:11: That's more like it.

but yea the block of in the back which there was only one and then two players running from the sideline before the play ended was bad i was watching that and i was like there is no way we're gonna get away with this because we never get the good end of the stick but i guess that day was our lucky day

Watching these made me so MAD, I couldn't finish watching it!

The Duke Miami one still makes me mad. Like home dude was clearly down with both knees and the on Miami dude clearly push him from behind. And then the Miami dude running down the field as the play is still going on without a helmet on. Play should have immediately been called dead then. But you know they do whatever the money says to do.

Him running on the field wouldn't negate the whole play. If it happened before then yes but it happened after the play was in motion. It would have just been added on the next teams possession.

@@jarodtincher2933 the problem I and many people have is that they used replay to pick up a flag. They said there was a block in the back and then went to replay to overturn it. Funny enough, the refs were STILL wrong. There was a blatant block in the back during the return.

As an Ohio State fan, I agree with you. Additionally, as an Ohio State fan, I honestly have no choice but to give credit to Charlie Bauman for doing what he was supposed to do in response to Art Schliester and his gambling-induced act of stupidity in throwing the football that dark, dark night at Jacksonville. As we learned that night, Woody Hayes understated the fact: Actually, four things can happen when you throw the football and three are bad; the fourth being that your head coach can lose his job over the greed of his quarterback. Another lesson from that night (and one which I had to learn the hard way) is: If you're from Columbus, never, and I mean never, go to Jacksonville!

That was a perfect block by Kenny Bell. Nebraska got beat up by Wisconsin in the BIG 10 Championship, but man did we have a highlight reel on them.

That Miami v Duke game still blows my mind. Dude was obviously down and then later dude was obviously blocked in the back.

Huge Beavers fan, watched 1:39 live... this still makes me physically queezy... We won the game by stopping them, but had we lost... they might have needed to find 7 more officials and 1 new replay official due to mysterious disappearances...

Fun fact: In the Wisconsin vs Northwestern game, earlier on, Wisconsin was returning a punt and their returner waved everyone off not to touch the ball, and he picked up the ball, and ended up scoring, however, the refs said it was an unclear fair catch signal and didn't give them the touchdown

Something similar almost happened to Ryan Switzer about 5 years ago. He caught the ball, made no fair catch signal, was hit by a Wake Forest player, and ran it nearly for a touchdown. The refs claimed that Switzer illegally ran after making a fair catch. I wasn't at the game, but my dad and brother said the refs were booed for the rest of the drive, while Fedora chewed the ass out of the ref as if he was bubble gum.

I was at that game, the refs were downright awful. Made me feel better seeing the student section pelt the refs with snowballs though.

I was at the Oregon-Oklahoma game, great game but the ref's blew that call. My Sooner friends were PO'd over that for a long time, welcome to PAC 10/12 officiating. Also it always surprises me on the Missouri-Colorado 5 downs game that nobody in real time seemed to notice?

good god these were heart crushing.

The last one in any other game that’s a touchdown the rules as far as I know (even though I’m Australian) is if the player has the ball and breaks the end zone in the field of play it’s a touchdown

Yes, the main point being having the ball. The ref missed the fact that he had the ball, even though all the other criteria are pretty self-evident as well, yikes! Poor refs, it's gotta be hard to be a ref, especially when you're on the take, errrrr, I mean.....

Lets hope that most of these refs got yelled at or fired after these calls.

The Miami-Duke refs were also suspended, and the ACC released a statement detailing all the reasons that touchdown should not have counted.

Eh don't get too mad about it. Bama scored a touchdown so it's all good. Now how about that terrible PI call this year in LSU vs Alabama in OT. With that call going LSU's way, Bama now has a tough decision: Go for it on 4th and Goal or kick a Field Goal and try and make a stop.

I'd say Nate Gerry targeting call from the 2015 bowl game should be in part 2.

Great highlights! I'm curious if there're any repercussions nowadays with officials making horrendous calls. Yes, they're human, but some of these calls are just plain knowing the rules.

9:07 How the heck do you call an un-sportsman like conduct penalty with :02 to go in the 4th quarter with such minor celebration by the scoring team?!? That is just unconscionable. And the fact they were 1 point behind and that would have won the game for Washington just adds salt to the wound. Some of these calls I can chalk up to mistakes or simple human error, but calls like that are beyond the pale. The ref is either incompetent, on the take, or worse. That call alone should have disqualified this man from refereeing any football games for the rest of his life.

It's actually an easy call. The rule is clear and the violation of the rule was also clear. The announcer was wrong when he said the QB spiked it over his shoulder. He actually through about 10 yards up in the air. The ref was just doing his job. The mental screw-up was the QB throwing the ball. That year was one in which the NCAA was coming down hard on end zone celebrations. Ref was just doing what the NCAA wanted home to do -- follow the rules.

That happened a few years ago. It was Ole Miss vs Mississippi State. Ole Miss scored a touchdown with two seconds left. The guy who scored went over by the goal post and lifted his leg and pretended to pee on it like a dog. The referee threw the flag for that too. The Ole Miss kicker missed the extra point and Mississippi State won the game 21-20.

We did get a little repayment against 4th ranked MSU in '15 when our receiver went out of bounds and back in to catch the game-winning TD pass, but the refs ruled he was forced out.

there are fans for every team in every sport in the world that will say the exact same thing about their team. nebraska fans should never cry, you were gifted a national championship over a much superior team in 1994

@@steveswangler6373 The #2 team that year didn't face any top 10 teams. They were probably good but hard to say. In their bowl game they faced a team that went 1-3 against P5 outside the big bad PAC-10. And that was the highest final ranked team they faced.

Every time I see a bad call: 4:50 “Um, Yeah, That’s not right”

These are the reasons why instant replay became into existence.

I cannot forget or forgive the refs in the OSU Central Michigan game.

The ref from the Hawaii Fresno State game has been behind some very questionable calls when Clemson or Auburn were versing Alabama

The call in the Wisconsin and Nebraska game, definitely a great call because that one player looked seriously hurt!

One of the best compilations I've seen of how much ref's ruin sports! For how devoted and sacred hard-core fans are for this sport, they should be incarcerated for their incompetence.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for Charles Johnson to get in the end zone on 5th down. I'd love to see my team on the good side on one of these calls for once.

Husker fan here. Yeah, the 'Flea Kicker' MIGHT have been just a little bit illegal. But props to the Mizzou QB - he was a warrior.

Florida’s “missed” field goal against Kentucky in 2018. Still mad about it. Still gonna stubbornly say that’s why we lost the streak.

Lol you're not lying. The ball literally landed in the locker room tunnel (directly behind the goal posts like most stadiums). I think the ref just started signaling "no good" before the ball made its last curve inside the uprights.

j walk bro what Kentucky always gets screwed on bad calls they handed Florida the win last year by calling a targeting when Kyle trask lowered his head.

Rocket Ismail's punt return (for a TD) in 1991 Orange Bowl, called back because of a "Phantom Illegal Block in the Back".

Definitely remember Iowa getting screwed in that game against Florida.. horrible game

Pass interference AND holding on Miami vs. Ohio State. (Sorry, the ref had to think about which one to call, no doubt; both were viable.)

@@ayarzeev8237 There's an angle of that play where Gamble's jersey is completely pulled sideways on a hold during the cut on that exact play. I know it's sad but the outcome is the same, 1st and goal. Truth be told the refs let Miami play in overtime... they should feel lucky.

The only good thing about the SC-Michigan one was that we saw one of the nastiest hits I’ve ever seen at any level. Another good thing about it is that it happened to Michigan. Edit: For Part 2, you should include the UNC vs Clemson onside kick
