Worst Calls in NFL History

Worst Calls in NFL History
It’s bad enough when refs make a bad call, but it’s horrendous when their calls actually alter an entire game… or more. It’s no surprise to NFL fans that refs have botched calls and no-calls before. It happens. But it’s unacceptable when it happens at critical moments and ruins the outcome of a game. Today, you’re going to see some egregious calls by the referees over the years, and you’re going to see big games whose endings were forever transformed. Because bad calls have happened on the biggest of stages… even in the final minutes of the most recent Super Bowl.
In today's video, we look at the Worst Calls in NFL History
The worst calls in NFL history have become infamous moments in sports, some of which stand out as the absolute worst referee calls in all of football history. These egregious mistakes have left fans and players alike frustrated. From questionable penalties, blown calls, and missed calls to blatant errors, the list of the worst calls in football history is extensive. These NFL worst calls ever serve as reminders of the need for accurate officiating in the sport.

The NFL must have professional referees, that's all. It is uncredible that a league, with such money involved, don't have correctly paid employees to rule the games. And before every season, summer camp should be made for referees, in order to set same level in their decisions.

I’ll give you another bad no call: Super Bowl XLVII. After the Ravens intercepted a pass from the 49ers, a fight broke out on the field. During the fight, Ravens DT Carey Williams intentionally shoved a referee to get to 49ers QB Colin Caepernick. In that same season, Cam Newton and Bill Bellichek were fined $29k and $55k respectively for putting their hands on the referee. Carey’s punishment: No ejection, no fine and no suspension.

Do you honestly think that the refs plotted to ensure that LA won the game, and the way they did it was waiting until the very end of the game and missing a blatant pass interference call? Why on Earth would their plan require something like that to happen where there are so many other ways they could affect the game?

Nobody seems to remember in Super Bowl XLIX, when a Seattle receive was outrunning the defender for a probable touchdown, the New England defender did a shoestring tackle on the receiver, and the refs all swallowed their whistle, because, well it was New England. At least that's the only explanation I can come up with. Pass Interference calls, or lack of them, is still a problem in the NFL.

Jason Garret is the one that effed that game up by allowing that long pass in the first place. Even if the play was good for a TD they still need 2 pts and the Packers have plenty of time to march right down the field and win the game which they did all game long and after they took over on downs moved it within easy fg range and ran the clock out. No doubt they would have won it with a TD if necessary's, meanwhile, it was 4th and 1 and GB could not stop Dallas's running game. Run the ball, get a first down,, take the time off of the clock and get a TD and leave no time for GB to respond. That whole no catch thing covered up the fact that that was the worst call in NFL history, even worse then the Seattle debacle at the end of the SB. And this is coming from a die hard Cowboys fan.

Yeah, I agree. It's the same with the disputed TD in the same game, where there's a side-on shot of the ball barely/almost breaking the plain. One is harsh but technically correct, the other was too close to overturn the call on the field. There's 20 worse calls than those every week of the regular season. That Saints vs Rams missed call still baffles me though. It's one of the clearest penalties possible.

One of the worst in recent memory is the Chiefs v Browns missed helmet to helmet call. Because of how obvious it was and because of what happened by not flagging the Chiefs. It was instead ruled a touchback, giving the Chiefs the ball when the Browns were only on first down.

8:26 So what are the refs supposed to do? They don't throw a flag here in the Ram, Saints NFC Champ game at the end and everyone flips out saying, WHERE"S THE FLAG, then in the SB with KC and Philly at the end where there was clearly a hold, the Philly defended even ADMITTED that it was a hold, the refs throw a flag, and everyone cries that THE REFS SHOULD LET THE PLAYERS DECIDE THE GAME. At what point should the ref not throw a flag and just let the players decide the game, for the 4th quarter, the last 5 minutes, the last 2 minutes? No, a penally is a penalty and should be called REGARDLESS of what quarter the game is in.

The 'reasoning' was that he He did his signature kick, ran with the team in celebration, then took 3 steps (while near the hash marks) towards the other sideline while the kicker was coming out. And they deemed the last move as 'threatening' to the kicker, and with all 3, called it taunting. IE it was the straw that broke the camels back. The hip check I think the ref should have been punished for.

@@TheGridironYT Dez had it got 2 feet down, took it home and slept with it, and brought it back, it was a catch, HOWEVER, the play call was horrible as the Packers had plenty of time to come back and win the game. They took over after that play and drove it down to easy fg range before running out the clock and I'm sure would have gotten the TD if necessary. Meanwhile, it's 4th and one and GB couldn't stop the Boy's running game so instead of running and getting an easy 1st down, running the time off the clock and getting a TD leaving the Pack with very little time left. They throw the game on a long very low percentage play which would likely lost even if the catch was ruled right. and I'm a Cowboys fan. BTW i'm sure a certain Detroit-Dallas game is sure to make an updated version of this topic. As far as the Cowboys are concerned the call (or no call) that robbed them worse then anything else in their history is the Dionne Sanders obvious PI in the '94 NFC championship.

  • @kurtmorris454

that last one, neither team should have made the SB. Like you said the BS no PI cost the Saints the SB appearance and the Chiefs completely gave the Patriots the SB with a Safety lining up in the neutral zone at the end nullifying a game winning INT and the worst part is he wasn't even rushing in on the play. But you missed one of the worst no calls which was Dionne Sanders no call PI on Michael Irvin in the 1994 NFC Championship game which cost Dallas dearly.
