Almost exactly two years ago, I released a video about the top five Vice Presidents in history, and holy crap since then 147,646 people have watched it.
Anyway, since that video did surprisingly well, now it’s time to be negative.
So here are the WORST five Vice Presidents in American History, in my opinion. And, similar to my top five Vice Presidents video, I am judging them based on their actions over their entire adult lives, not just during their time as Veep. Also, Vice Presidents who later became President are exempt from this list, and that Mike Pence dude who is currently the Vice President is also exempt.

While I agree that Dick Cheney was one of the most despicable characters in US History and is certainly in some sort of evil podium in World History as well, I mean, we need to separate the concept of "bad" from "ineffective", because Cheney literally succeeded in everything he wanted to do. Which is scary. But the point is that he's different from Dan Quayle who was just an idiot.

Reminds me of the Jeopardy host replacement debacle after Alex Trebek died. Mike Richards, the producer, was in charge of hiring a new host, and surprise, picked himself. After 1 week, his shady past and sexual harassment claims on a previous job surfaced and he was fired as host and producer, and his career has taken a huge hit over it. So it backfired big time.

I thank you endlessly for boldly stating the truth: Dick Cheney was awful. I am tired of all the people who say "TOO RECENT" to quell any meaningful discussion of the Bush presidency. I was raised in a very anti-Iraq War house and I was indoctrinated to hate Dick Cheney at 8 years old. Since then, I have traveled, met all sorts of new people, experienced many life events, went to college and just became a more well-reasoned person. Today, I still hate Dick Cheney. I have often had existential dread as my life has changed. But i take comfort in the fact: I will always hate Dick Cheney.

Great Moments in Dan Quayle history with some of his quotes: "Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child." "One word sums up probably the responsibility of any vice president, and that one word is 'to be prepared'." "We don't want to go back to tomorrow, we want to go forward." "I have made good judgements in the Past. I have made good judgements in the Future." "The future will be better tomorrow." "I am not part of the problem. I am a Republican." "I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix." "A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls." "We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a *part* of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a *part* of Europe." "It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it." "For NASA, space is still a high priority." "[It's] time for the human race to enter the solar system." "I stand by all the misstatements that I've made."

He would accept the Vice Presidency to help Bush because he respected Bush. We all know how honorable of a man John McCain was. Maybe Bush's approval ratings might not have plummeted that bad if he had McCain to assist him. The GOP has ended up going more and more conservative. They're going to such a level that it sounds totally absurd. That's why republicans are losing their majorities in the Senate and House of Representatives. They are simply appealing to the conservatives and not to the moderates. The moderates play an important role in swinging the votes.

What you mentioned about Cheney profitting from war is unfortunately true about a massive number of members of congress. And this isn't a theory, it's publicly known fact since their financial records are required to be made public. I don't remember how many by now but I do recall that an absurdly large quantity of both senators and representatives buy significant parts of defense companies, then make sure that those companies get huge government contracts, where you'll have things like a sock costing hundreds of dollars (I made that particular example up, but that is how ridiculous it gets and I don't remember any actual examples)

I recall reading a few things about how he voted when he was a Congressman, things like voting against Head Start, against the Equal Rights Amendment, initially against a holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr., against making armor piercing "cop killer" bullets illegal, against sanctions against South Africa during apartheid, against making plastic guns that could slip through metal detectors illegal, against renewing funds for the Clean Air Act, and the list goes on. Granted, he actually was good with LGBT issues, but likely only because his daughter came out as a lesbian, so a perhaps that's even more slimy of him.

I saw someone comment further down that Cheney is different than Quayle in that he was smarter and more effective. But the word "worst" can mean in a moral sense, not just ineffectual, and, in fact, that is probably the more common meaning of the word. So I think it makes sense to put Cheney at the top of the list. It's interesting that you think Cheney did better as Secretary of Defense. I don't know anything about his actions in that role so I would be interested to see whether he was less interventionist than he became when he was VP.

When I was in elementary school in Ohio back in the 1990’s, schools were first starting to do standardized testing of their students. Teachers had to set aside a couple of days in the school year for all the students in the school to sit down and bubble-in multiple choice answers in a cheap booklet printed on thin, easily-torn paper. The teachers and the school were going to be graded on how well we students performed on this boring, menial test. Therefore, as I sat in the classroom waiting for the Social Studies portion of the test to be passed out, the teacher told us all, “Okay, class, on question 14 when it asks ‘Where did the Founding Fathers get the idea for the Constitution?’, the correct answer is ‘B: The Iroquois Confederacy.’ Yes, I know that isn’t actually the correct answer, and you all know that, too, but that’s the answer the state wants.” Yes, really, she actually said that. I remember that specifically because I thought it was incredibly strange. I mean, we had just recently learned in history class that the Founding Fathers drew inspiration from many sources when writing the Constitution. Why was the state government wanting us to say that only one of those inspirations mattered? Looking back on this today, as a full-grown adult, it seems clear to me that someone in either Ohio’s education department or the company that made these standardized tests had a political agenda and was trying to get all the schools to teach to that agenda.

You are a fabulous teacher. Is there any chance you can do a video on the 11th Vice President, George M Dallas??

Wonderful work! I would love to see you break down Cheney's actions. It felt as though he was the president, and W. Was his puppet.

M Daze - For some reason, Grammarly recognizes both wordings. I've never had to use the word in writing, so I'm confused about what the official spelling is.

Weirdly it makes me upset that I didn't have you as a history teacher in highschool. They were some of the coolest teachers I had throughout my entire time at school, and i feel like you wouldve rounded out the team well.
