I always forget how good this song is, until I see someone react to it. Then I'm just like "oh, yeah! This song is awesome!"

A great song with Floor soaring legato over Marcos gritty staccato. It's a metaphor for the River of Life. Notice how Floor does a little growl at one point, while being slinky and sultry in other parts. Jeff over at Stratele Studios did a two-part video just on Emppu's guitar part. In Floor's part I particularly like the bit after the childrens' choir where she goes into the long high note starting absolutely straight and gradually adding vibrato. Masterful vibrato and breath control. This is from the Imaginaerum album and this show is part of the Imaginaerum tour To go with this there is a full length Nightwish feature film also of the same name. Dark but compelling, with the band taking roles throughout That film gives context for the album and the songs on it - watch it! For example, here, the flight of the snowman in the film reaches a section where the ghost river cones into view. When the album came out, Tuomas said:m 'life is the ultimate privilege; a river filled with wonders and horrors. Love, sorrow, beauty, evil and temptation, and we need them all to survive and enjoy the journey. Good, Evil, Pain and Pleasure' The chanting of the Young Musicians London choir cast Marco as the Pied Piper luring children into the darkness. Marco's role in the film references Snow White and bridge-dwelling trolls; Anette takes a motherly tone, insisting to 'never lose your heart' as she begs us to come across; Floor translates this better and can really act the temptress. In an interview with an Italian metal magazine, Tuomas described the two characters as "the devil and mother Gaia'. Thr direction from here should be Buenos Aires 2018 show...

Yeah, I see the two characters as both supernatural beings beyond human concerns. They may seem "nice" and "nasty", but both want you to cross the river, and the female voice is perfectly content for your kind heart to bleed.

Actually, I find the growl slinky and sultry.

I'm a big fan of female voices in metal, but there's just no one else like Floor.....so glad that she's performing this music in my lifetime!! Love Floor, love NIghtwish, love metal!!🤘

Nice reaction! And yes - that WAS Floor growling! Just as a P.S. - please can you turn down your Intro/Outro music a little? It's WAAAAY louder than the rest of the Video. Thanks.

@@teckreactions hey Matt, FYI ,this is a massive YT fan base & it is certainly not represented by "any" one person,nor should any reactor solely look to one person for song/venue recommendations as that is not the intent and results in reactions to venue versions that are not the best,such an example as "Yours Is An Empty Hope",95% of fans recommend the Wembley Arena 2015 version as it has the best audio,video,stage & performance,but one persons list has the Mexico City venue which is inferior

Where to go? Where to go? Let's see Wembly 2015 would be a great start. That would be the Endless Forms Most Beautiful Tour. Everyone just jumps in in random places but the songs line up to tell a story so watching the concert in order is the best way to go.

Random pull is the way to do it - that way you get to sample multiple comcerts.

Another one of my favorite Nightwish songs (I know I say that a lot :) ) I love Floor's near acapella vocals at the break near the end of the song. I replay that part a whole lot!

'Dark demonic figure' , and 'wailing spirit' is pretty much right on target. Tuomas has said that the song is a duel between the Devil and Mother Gaia. From the 2011 Imaginerum album, Anette era. It is a darker song , but that is to balance out with the other songs on the album. Tuomas' remarks about the album and this songs place: "Since this is a dramatic album about the celebration of life and existence, you need the dark side as well. I love the dark side and I love all kinds of evil stuff, so we needed a few songs to describe those. 'Ghost River' and 'Rest Calm' are the two songs that are talking about the dark side of life." Love the back and forth vocals in this, another with some back and forth is "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" (live at Buenos Aires 2018). Also , Floor does a bit of growling in this, check out "Yours Is an Empty Hope" (live from Wembley 2015 or Mexico City 2015) for more of the growls.

The ENTIRE Wacken 2013 show was top notch from the very start to end song. Not a bad performance in the entire show.

I love my perceived dichotomy of this song. Marko's voice is rough, hard; but it is warning about the river's dangers. Floor's sweet, angelic vocals are soothing and luring you in to the river; however, if you listen carefully, the devil growl in her voice comes through in a few places!!!

Love your take on songs from my favorite band!❤ I’ll tell ya. I always thought this song told me shady things come from grit AND seemingly angelic sources. The Ghost River is dangerous yet both Marco and Floor are telling me to cross.😂😂😂😂😂

Hi Teck, I am a big Nightwish army member. You should put the Danish band "Within Temptation" on the reaction list. Somewhat similar to Nightwish and has sold more albums. Try the songs "Faster" or "The Reckoning". Explain the bands to "The Hu" songs "Wolf Totem" or "Black Thunder". Good luck.

The point was that he said around 8:50 mark that he has only 3 songs left from Gabriel's list(s) after listening to 10 songs from the list (Perfume of the Timeless wasn't in the list).
