    Absolutely on that 10/10. I drink that beer on a regular basis. I only drink beer from Europe. Some Czech and some from Poland but the vast majority is German. Huge thanks to Weihenstaphner for making such awesome pure beers. American beer sucks. Bud and Miller ruin everything they get their greedy hands on. I tried the gauntlet of craft beer and grew tired of paying $20 for someone’s gimmicks and stupid names for the beer. All I wanted was a really really well done beer and I found them in Europe.

    @@IWrocker might be impossible to get them and even then they may not really taste that good. You must make a trip to Munich :D Lot of breweries in the area and some Beer simply only tastes perfect on the spot :D

    Even IN Germany it's not easy to get your hands on all of these, though. There are a lot that I don't even like but there are so many - and very different ones - that there also going to be a lot that you like. (Augustinerbräu Pilsener in my case)

    yeah, to be honest they would be bound by their local supplier if they can get the beers in glass bottles. The "Helles" have a harder time , while the "Hefeweizen" for me doesn't degrade at all in a can and even makes it easy for novice drinkers, because the "Hefe" should be better mixed in a can. A good "Helles" or "Vollbier" will be drinkable out of the bottle, "Hefeweizen" should always be served in an appropriate glass.

    Actually, Can is the 2nd best way to enjoy beer after draft. The idea that beers keep better in bottles is not true, and you can find quality beers nowadays from unique breweries in cans. Exception may be Trappist beers because the bottling is part of the last fermentation cycle of a tripel.

    it's Hefe-Weissbier. That means, there's yeast (Hefe) in it. It set down at the bottom. You always have to pour the entire can / bottle and shake up the last bit with the yeast on the bottom. You missed half of the experience by drinking it clear. Also, you're drinking export quality batches there. Paulaner Hefeweißbier is very average, export quality is below that. You really should get your hands on the real thing.

    Plenty of other brands that make it Paulaner is pretty ok but not the best one ive gotten. And no don't ask me wich one is the best because i usualy just drink the locale one when i'm in Germany and i'm not fantatic about it they all taste fine i jsut know i tasted better ones.

    You did quite a good selection for this video, as you picked three totally different kinds of beers. Weihenstephaner Helles is a light (colored) beer, typically smooth in taste and quite süffig (drinkable). Paulaner Weißbier is a "white beer" or wheat beer which is brewed from different ingredients. There is two types of wheat beers, so called crystall wheat beer and yeast wheat beer and you most probably tasted the latter. This is also where the cloudy coloring of the beer comes from. Becks is a typical Northern German Pilsener beer which has a distinctive and characteristic bitterness. These three types cover the majority of beer types in Germany, although there are additional types like dark beer and smoky beer as well.

    True, this are 3 totally different kinds of beer, regulary you cant compare them to each other. And, if its possible, you should get the beers in bottles. Especially the wheat beer, youve special beer glasses for it and you dont put it at once in such a glas. you shake/turn the last bit of the beer in the bottle and pour it then into the glas, to get the yeast from the bottom.

    You guys killed it on your first two choices, Paulaner and Weihenstephaner are both great breweries. Their Pilsners are really awesome, you should try them... Becks was brewed in Germany for 140yrs. Anheuser-Busch bought it in 2008 and brews it in St. Louis.

    Good comparison. If you need to choose a beer for 100 people you go with Becks or Krombacher: nobody loves it, but nobody will spit it out. It's common ground.

    That's about right. In northern Germany, people drink more pilsner than Bavarian lager or wheat beer. I personally don't like Becks, there are much better beers in northern Germany, but they were the first to export it worldwide. I think most Becks is drunk abroad by German vacationers when there is no good local beer 😉. By the way - his sentence "It's drinkable" is already considered a compliment in Germany. 🤣

    Hallo from Germany! You guys reacted so lovely! I also adore the generational aspect. Hefeweizen is poured in a particular way: the glass is held at as much of an angle as possible to delay the formation of foam for as long as possible. Before all the beer is in the glass, the bottle or even the can is swirled back and forth to loosen the yeast from the bottom. Then pour it into the glass together with the last of the beer.     I'm English and have lived and worked in Munich on several assignments. Once you've had proper Bavarian beer, it ruins you for drinking the lager offered in the bar/pub at home. You'll never have the same appreciation for your domestic beer again.

    I was in Dublin once, and was pretty hiped up to try the famous Guinness. Havent had it before. And it just sucked compared to the dark beers Served here. Lackes deepness, malty sweetness. Just not enough body, and to me, it left a Taste of clams on my tongue. Way better in Germany switzerland and Austria. The Beer trinity for me.

    I'm glad to see that you like it, unfortunately I've never drank American beer myself and would like to drink a few. I have 4 of my favorite beers from the south of Bavaria that you would like to try. (I'm currently drinking a beer myself and saw you enjoying the beer :D) Franziskaner Weissbier, Berchtesgadener Hell, Berchtesgadener Jubiläumsbier, Schönramer Hell.

    I´m from Germany, first...great video :) second: The Paulaner Hefe Weizen is a yeast wheat beer, that´s what "Hefe Weizen" stands for. Ever single Hefe Weizen in Germany has that cloudy appearance. Personally it´s my favourite sort of beer, because it´s so damn smooth. PROST!

    The beers from northern Germany are rather sharp (becks from bremen or also Jever) and the Bavarian beers have a rather smooth and round Taste. If you liked paulaner Hefeweizen so much, you REAAAALLY should try Erdinger Weißbier. The taste is incredible, we love drinking it in summer

    Great selection of beers. The "Helles" is a very popular type of beer in southern Germany and Austria, it's also what is usually at the Oktoberfest (and similar events) in a "Maßkrug". (A "Maßkrug" will fit two of those cans) It has a mild flavor and is therefore considered as the smallest common denominator be some. Depending on the brewery the flavor profile can vary from complex or simple. If you mix equal parts of "Helles" and Sprite (or similar) you'll get what we call a "Radler". It's great on a hot summer day. The second one is a type called "Weizen" or sometimes "Weißbier" and mostly popular in southern Germany. Its made from wheat instead of barley which gives it a very unique flavor. Unlike most other beers the yeast is not removed after brewing, which gives it that cloudy look and also contributes to the taste. On special occasion people will drink it alongside their "Weißwurstfrühstück" for breakfast. It consists of fatty, mild boiled sausages that are eaten with sweet mustard and fresh pretzels from a bakery on the side. Fun Fact: The "Weizen" ist actually the reason the "Reinheitsgebot" was invented. When it was invented in the middle ages the idea was that people shouldn't waste ht valuable wheat on beer and instead should only use the cheaper barley. So with the "Reinheitsgebot" the ingredients for beer were limited to water, yeast, barley and hops. It's not legally binding anymore, so "Weizen" can be sold as beer, but you can't its brewed according to the "Reinheitsgebot". Which is still a marketing term many brewers like to use for their other beers. The (green) "Beck's" is brewed in the style of a "Pils" or "Pilsener". From what I was told most beers in the US are "Pilsner" or brewed very similar. It's typically made with a more hops than other beers, which gives it that bitter flavor. The three beers are all from industrial size breweries. They are definitely not bad, but if you'd ask a German they would likely describe it as "nothing special". The micro brewery trend has never caught on in Germany, because we have had something similar way before that. Pretty much everywhere you are in Germany there will be a couple of small to medium sized breweries, they usually only supply supermarkets in a 10-30 mile radius. If you'd ask any German what their favorite beer is, their answer would likely be a beer from one of their local breweries. If you can, try one of these. They often have a more complex flavor and generally higher quality. The best thing is the beers from these small breweries cost about the same as the beers from the bigger brands. It's pretty much the same for Austria as well. Many small breweries with affordable, high quality beer.

    Mittlerweile bekommt man auch in Berlin in jedem Spätkauf Augustiner, Bayreuther etc. Zum Glück. Am Anfang war das echt ein Problem und das was Hellem am nächsten kam war Sternburger Export... Wenn man in der Kneipe Fassbier bestellt, bekommt man meist immer noch Pilsener in 0,5 Liter Gläsern... Das werde ich nie verstehen. Nach 2,5 Liter Pils und ein paar Zigaretten hab ich ein heftigeres Pappmaul als wie nach 5 Bongköpfen. Helles hat definitiv seine Daseinsberechtigung, ist in der Kneipenkultur, außerhalb von Bayern, jedoch noch stark unterrepräsentiert. Alles in allem merkt man stark, dass du in Bayern lebst und auch wenn bayrische Kulinarik das ist, was meistens in anderen Ländern mit deutscher Ess- und Trinkkultur asoziiert wird solltest du nicht vergessen, dass nördlich vom Weißwurstäquator nieman Weißwurstfrühstück macht und es denn meisten Leuten ziemlich auf den Keks geht, dass im Ausland gedacht wird Deutsch = Bayrisch... Und ich kenne die Begründung des Reinheitsgebots auch so, dass die Leute früher alle möglichen Nachtschattengewächse wie Bilsenkraut, Tollkirsche etc. ins Bier gepanscht haben und die Leute reihenweise abgedreht sind. Hat auch mit Agrarwirtschaft und Steuern zu tun, aber grundsätzlich kann man das Reinheitsgebot als erstes Lebensmittelgesetz sehen, das heute bei allen Konsumwaren gilt, insbesondere bei Medikamenten. Du bekommst was drauf steht und nicht weniger oder zusätzlich dazu irgendeinen Blödsinn denn man nicht haben will.

    Ein paar Anmerkungen zu deiner Ausführung: 1. Der Style des BJCP 10A Weissbier, 10B Dunkles Weissbier und 10C Weizenbock hat sowohl von der BJCP, als auch vom Bayrischen Reinheitsgebot die Vorgabe aus mindestens 50% Weizenmalz eingemaischt worden zu sein. 100% Weizenmalz in der Schüttung wird keine Brauerei mitmachen, da Weizenmalz keine gute Diastatik hat und sich die Maische fast nicht läutern lässt und eine große Brauerei damit fast 0% Prozesssicherheit hat. Des Weiteren wird Weizenbier traditionell durch Flaschengärung karbonisiert, das bedeutet das fertig endvergorene Bier wird mit einer kleinen Portion Zucker in die Flasche gefüllt und verschlossen. Die kleine Zuckerportion (Bei Weizen ca. 6-10g/l) sorgt dafür, dass die noch im Bier vorhandene, lebende Hefe wieder aktiv wird und den Zucker in Ethanol und CO2 umwandelt. Das entstehende CO2 kann dadurch, dass die Flasche verschlossen ist nicht entweichen, was den Flaschendruck erhöht und das CO2 zwingt in Lösung zu verbleiben. So entsteht auch nach Vergärung des verbleibenden Karbonisierungszuckers der kleine Hefeteppich am Flaschenboden. Andere Biere werden zwangskarbonisiert und mit Gegendruckabfüllung in die Flasche gebracht, was eine Nachgärung überflüssig macht. 2. Das Reinheitsgebot existiert erst seit 1918, alles was es davor gab waren "Brauverordnungen" und insbesondere die Brauverordnung von der du sprichst, im Zusammenhang mit Weizenbier hat nichts mit Qualität, oder Verschwendung von Weizen zu tun. Es war viel mehr der erste Fall von Monopolisierung durch Vetternwirtschaft bei Bier. Albrecht V, Sohn von Wilhelm IV, nutzte die Brauverordnung um allen das Brauen mit Weizen zu verbieten, mit Ausnahme der Adelsfamilie Degenberg. Somit lag die Produktion und der gesamte Gewinn im Weizenbier-Markt in der Hand einer einzigen Familie und das mit dem besten Segen des Herzogs. 3. Die meißten in den USA industriell hergestellten Biere sind BJCP 1A American Light Lager und 1B American Lager und haben im Grunde nichts mit einem 5D German Pilsner zu tun. 4. Der Mikro- und Kleinbrauerei Trend ist in Deutschland so stark wie nie zuvor. Während alteingesessene Industrieproduzenten um ihren Gewinn bangen, haben in den letzten 5 Jahren so viele umsatzstarke Mikrobrauereien aufgemacht wie noch nie zuvor.

    Weizen is pretty much completely different from pils or lager, it uses a different kind of yeast and a different type of grain (Weizen or wheat instead of Gerste or barley) - or at least as different as the German Reinheitsgebot/purity law allows. There are a lot of different yeasts, but there are two major categories. One rises (obergärig - roughly translated: top-fermenting), one drops down to the bottom (untergärig, bottom-fermenting). Traditional beers - like Weizen or "White-Beer", as it's also called, often used obergärige Hefe (top-fermenting yeast) in the somewhat distant past, because it likes somewhat higher temperatures and didn't need to be cooled (as much). Which was a bit harder in the past, having no electrical refrigeration. For bottom fermenting beers, you had to have cool cellars. And winter, preferably. This is why "Weizen" is both a top-fermenting beer and a traditional summer drink - because you could also brew and enjoy it when it was warmer. There are some other traditional beers that were bottom fermenting, but those often had to be brewed during the winter, because it would go bad otherwise. Märzen (from März, as in the month march) had to be brewed in (or rather before) März (march), hence its name. It's the traditional Octoberfest-beer. Compared to the "Helles" (pale lager, Bavarian edition; which is also bottom-fermenting) it's a little more thicc, more malty, a little more potent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A4rzen Another traditional "obergäriges Bier" or top-fermenting beer is Kölsch btw. And it also tastes a lot different as pilseners/lagers do. Of course, that all doesn't apply anymore, and you can get either type of beers whenever you like today. And of course there are regional differences. Bavaria - right in the south - being kind of the capital of "Weizen" (and Märzen, but so are some surrounding countries like Austria/Czech Republic, maybe more so today) while the north has more pilseners and stuff - but that also might be because of temperature and traditions. Btw. Can you smell banana when sniffing a Weizen? I almost always do - which seems weird. But you can actually drink your Weizen with Bananas, it's somewhat common in Germany. And it does taste pretty good. kzread.info/dash/bejne/g2mgu9maic7Of6g.html The different yeasts also "eat" or convert different sugars and stuff, so a different yeast can make your beer taste quite different. It might affect the sourness, but I suspect some of the Paulaners "citrusy" comes from the type of hops they used. There are some kinds that taste a bit like citrus (other ones are bitter or tardy, some fresh, some flowery - there are lots of different types/strains).     Never had the Weihenstephaner Helles (a clear beer) but rather the Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier and the Kristall Weissbier. The Kristall is the clear filter version of the hefeweissbier, and it's a bit lighter where the unfiltered beer is a bit heavier in taste. I still recommend you to try these two different Weihenstephaners. Especially the Hefeweissbier is mostly sold around here in Europe. Also add the Franziskaner Weissbier, as that's also good.

    very sympatic video. i am from Bavaria Germany and i love to see you hyping the beer :) The Hefe-Weizen is with yeast. This settles at the bottom of the can or bottle. In order to have even more flavor in the beer, you have to swirl the can or bottle at the end to distribute the yeast in the beer. Best regards :)

    You got a good taste for liking the Hefeweizen! Wheat beer is very very famous in southern Germany but also across the whole country. Paulaner Hefeweizen is my personal favorit as well. Prost und Grüße from Frankfurt, Germany and thanks for your very entertaining videos! If you got a chance to get your hands on some Landbier, preferable by Mönchshof you may wanna give it a try! It's not as famous but rather sweet and easy to drink. And if you wanna go real crazy try German Cider from Hessen. It's called Apfelwein (apple wine) and is exceptionally sour, many people mix it 1/3 with sparkling water. It's a local delicacy. Cheers!

    greetings from germany, i really enjoyed the video. just some remarks: 1. good choice, you hit the three main types of beer. becks is called pils or pilsener. it is a very typical beer in the north of germany and mostly on the more bitter side. helles is typical for the southern part and on a steep uprise in consumption allover germany. those are sweeter and „süffig“ (easily drinkable). weizen or also called weißbier (white beer) is a specific type of brewing technique. it has a lot of calories and makes hungry more than the other ones so you start eating salty and fatty foods. so be aware it makes you gain some pounds… 😉 2. weizen has a very polarizing type of taste. i do not like it but people who enjoy it usually do only drink this type of beer. 3. try to get some „bock bier“. alcohol gets up to 7 or 8 % and those beers do have a very wide range of tastes. some are more citrus / peach like flavours and some taste more like dark chocolate / plums. best ones are made in a brewery in the small city of einbeck, called „einbecker“. you should definitely try to get your hands on that stuff they are just awesome. cheers and PROST! 😀

    well, pils differs a lot, i think. if you compare jever to krombacher it is a completely different taste. usually beer in green bottlea is more hoppy (is that the word?) and beer in brown bottles is more malty. people who like helles usually tend to malty pils in brown bottles. it is less bitter. nevertheless the „green bottle beers“ are very suitable for hot summer barbecues. i highly recommend „einbecker brauherren pils“. it has a very fine hop-taste with some light lemon flavour. even more lemonish is „einbecker hanse bock“ that beer is absolutely worth trying! unfortunately it is very hard to get even in the region. in the winter i recommend „einbecker winter bock“ and beer in brown bottles in general. if i‘d make a beer tasting winter bock and hanse bock would definitely be on the list. maybe you try those?

    If you want to test German beer, it must also be brewed according to the German Purity Law, which can only contain 4 ingredients. Namely water, hops, malt and yeast. Beck's is manufactured under license in many places around the world. Usually has nothing to do with the German purity law. By the way in Germany we have all in all 1492 breweries.

It's not too uncommon and you can get it pretty much everywhere. I do prefer it over regular beer usually and like it with a splash of banana juice.

    German from Bremen here. I really enjoyed your taste test. I was baffled how baffled you were on wheatbeer :D Concerning Becks. While going to university I worked at the tourist center for the Becks Brewery. Becks was an export only beer for a really really really long time. And not even sold on the German market but was explicitly brewed for the overseas market. The informal name became "key beer" because of the logo, which in the past used to be the seal of city of Bremen but Becks had to change it due to legal concerns.

    I loved your reaction to the wheat beer. Very heartwarming. I see this often with people having wheat beer for the very first time, and I guess that is because it is so different from the beer most people are used to. Also, even though most likely by accident, I think your Beer choices were pretty good. While all brands may not be the very best choice for each type of beer, you had a Pilsner, a Wheat beer, and a Helles which is a really good first step to understanding German beer culture.

    Some background on the beers you drank. The first one, Weihenstephaner Helles is what they call a Märzen, after the month March. Back in the middle ages brewers in Bavaria weren't allowed to fire their wood burning kettles during summer in the cities because of the fire hazard. So they brewed a lot of filtered, bottom fermenting beer in March that they could keep during the summer in the beer cellar underneath the beergardens, then in September start brewing again, open the doors to the beer cellar to raise the temperature and let the leftover Märzen become a nice strong beer ready for a certain party in October. The second, Paulaner Hefe Weizen is a traditional Bavarian unfiltered, top fermenting wheat beer. The wheat apposed to barley gives it it's cirtus note. The yeast gives the beer it's solid body and almost gives you the feeling of having had a sandwich after finishing your beer. The Hefeweizen is probably one of the most recognizable traditional Bavarian beer styles. Märzen is for sure traditional, but most areas in Europe will have similar lager style beers, the Hefeweizen is considered it's own category in the beer world, with for example a Kristalweizen (filtered) part of that category. Becks is just an export German Pilsner, so a lager, hopped, filtered. Refreshing beer, but not much special, a Heineken or so, brewed for the global market that is gonna be ok everywhere. If you want to try a good German style pilsner, see if you can get Trumer pils. It's Austrian, but wins the beer worldcup consistently in that category.

Outside of Munich they’re flushing the loo with it :-) I could have recommended a couple of way better beers which are even available in the US (ok, pricy, I agree, but available:-))

    @@martinheinz160 Technically you're correct, as in a "Helles" is not a beer style, it's a colour, similar to "blond" in English. So a blond wheat bear or a pilsner can be called a "Helles" as well. In my experience however, if people want a "Helles" in most cases they want a Märzen.

As for the choice of Paulaner, I think they didn't have a lot of choice. Especially unfiltered beers are quite risky to transport over huge distances, as the yeast inside can react badly to big air pressure and temperature changes. That plus that the US health and safety laws for a long time didn't even allow "living" beers to be imported, so a lot of companies simply don't have their networks set up, and by the time the borders went open, the micro brew scenery started to develop and saturated the market.

    @@haribo836 I have to admit that you realy confused me with your answer, where do you get a Märzen when you order a Helles? Might it be, that you are from Austria? Your Märzen is like the German Helles, but the German Märzen different from that (I recommend the Swabian ones, region around Ulm has some good ones). Helles has his Origins from märzen, but is certainly established as "Münchner Helles Lager Style" as its own beer Style.     @iwrocker - you should check the different forms of brewing. there is "obergärig" and "Untergärig" . Also there is the "deutsches reinheitsgebot" which is pretty important regarding german beer

    When I was in the USA I was amazed that you guys actually had some German beers available. Sadly (at least for my opinion), it was only the big brands that are mostly drank at festivals because they’re the only option available. Smaller local breweries make much better beer, but often times are not available farther away. On top of that, the beers vastly differ in every region. Guess you’ll probably need to take a few months and tour Germany to get a fair taste 😉

My favorite Weiss bier, a little heavy but lecker. Becks is Becks, it's a traditional Pilsner.     I admit to be a bit amused at hearing 5% beer being called strong. In Europe I think that's pretty much the baseline. Most "regular" beers are in the 5-5.5 range, but you can easily get 7%. Some speciality beers go into the teens. Strongest one I've had was 14%, but they can go even higher.

    Any alcohol percentage past 14-16 ish % requires distilling. Most brewers yeast dies at that point.

    Most regular beers are like 4.5% I believe. Even deliberately strong beer like Maibock usually only go up to 7.5%.

I´m kidding you guys, chill ;) Quick Tipp: Because there is hefe (yeast) in the "hefe weissbier" you should always pour it until you got about half left, swirl it around gently so the yeast mixes back into the rest of the beer and then continu to pour the rest. greetings from munich :)

    Paulaner has been available from Aldi here in Australia a couple of times each year. For around the 'October Fest' time they had both bottles and these 500mL cans of HefeWeizen, but a bit earlier in the year had also ' Kristal Weizen' with 0% alcohol. Kristal = Crystal is for a filtered clear version of the Wheat beer. I find it is best as a cool drink, refreshment for those really hit summer days 30°C to 40°C, so up to over 100°F. At 0% also quantity to drink is safe, as no ways do you get drunk, can consume it on hot days and still be safe driving. At other times thecakcoholic versions go well with afternoon barbeques. Presuming no driving later, as with 5% and up alcohol it is not too big volume to put you in trouble for DUI. especially as 0.5L or even 1L are typical glass volumes. Both the Hefe (Yeast) version and the Kristal(Crystal) clear types are good, but as pure refreshment I like the clear over the cloudy versions. To me wheat beer is my preffered type for pure refreshment, other times I prefer "Pils" beers, but I steer clear of the like of 'Becks', of course you have little choice, needing to get what limited types you can get in US retail. I currently have 4 bottles and 8 cans of the Paulaner HefeWeizen and also 6 bottles 0% Kristal Weizen for our summer, sadly so far we have few days into high 30°C range, so not had much yet, just keeping some cold and ready. In Germany about any village has own brewery, so there are hundreds of brands, and each part of Germany will have own major brands. Depending where you are will determine what major brands are most common. There are also many styles of beer, including some rather great special beers, including some like BOCK and DOUBLE BOCK, the latter being a stronger alcohol version of BOCK, with from memory well over 20% alcohol. BOCK is a thicker dark Meade like beer. Originally invented by monks for "Lent" fasting, where eating is forbidden but drinking allowed. On the rich BOCK beer they typically gained weight during the Lent fasting. Beer flavours do vary. The one feature throughout Germany, only the basic 4 ingredients are allowed, a about 400 year old fixed rule. NO FUNNY ADDITIVES, bittering agents colour, stabilisers, preservatives, no chemical additives period. Nothing but pure water, hops, yeast, and relevant grain

    Yea, I agree. Paulaner Hefe-Weizen is quite a good beer to drink. The only issue is it sometimes tastes a bit rancid, pretty much if you had to taste the smell of old sport socks. If someone gets that one as first time they try it, they'll think it tastes horrible. But it's not bitter, I personally don't like bitter beer at all. Becks is one of those I like to avoid. It's often called "Tankstellenbier", "Gas station beer".

    There is one more popular type, though only drunken (but in return almost exclusively) here in the west and scorned by the rest: Kölsch, which is somewhere in-between an ale and a lager. Mediocre from can or bottle but great fresh from the keg (and Mühlen, Reißdorf and especially Schreckenskammer are also fine from the bottle)

    Greetings from Upper Franconia (in the north of Bavaria). Nice to see you testing German beer. The first beer ("ein Helles") is, in my opinion, a tasty, mild beer. With the second beer ("Hefeweizen") it is important to stir up the "Hefe" that has settled at the bottom of the can (or bottle) a bit at the end. With the third beer (I suspect it is brewed in the style of a "Pils") it is actually the case that beers from the north of Germany are a bit bitter. A little tip: depending on the type of beer, there are different beer glasses that we use. - Anyway, it was very nice to see the video. Keep it up! Stay healthy! Greetings from Germany!

    Na klar ist Becks ein Pils, ich denke auch, wenn es in den USA gebraut ist, wird es nicht anders sein, als aus Bremen. Hoffe ich zumindest.

    If you ever have the chance to get your hands on a Rauchbier (smoked beer), especially from Bamberg, you have to try it. It’s made by smoking the hops and that’s giving the beer an exceptional taste. It’s also an window to the medieval Europe, back then almost all beers where smoked beers because they needed to dry the hops and the easiest way was to smoke it. After the Industrial Revolution smoked beer almost disappeared only in Bamberg they still made smoked beer. So you could say that it’s truly medieval beer. Fun fact: in the medieval times even children drank beer all the time because it was cleaner than water and thus healthier.

    Best regards from Germany. You have three different beers there. I have a tip for you. Before you drink, smell the beer - every beer smells different. With yeast beer, you still have to swirl the yeast out of the can. That's why yeast beer is so cloudy. Pale beer is palatable. Hefebier is mild and drinkable.     You had 3 different styles of German beer in your test. The first one (Weihenstephaner) was a so called "Helles", the second one (Paulaner) was a "Weizen" or "Weissbier" and then last one (Becks) was a "Pils". Depending on the area in Germany those types are more or less popular. In Munich, Bavaria or more general, in the south of Germany you mostly have Weissbier and Helles. In the northern area Pils is more popular. Since I almost only drink Helles, I can only give you a recommendation for that type. For Helles you should try to get an Augustiner Helles or Augustiner Edelstoff.

    Paulaner Hefeweizen is a different type of beer than the others, its a yeast wheat (Hefe and Weizen) beer instead of hops and malt. Normally you have to pour the whole bottle and pan the last bit for the yeast to get into the glas. It's almost a meal because of the thickness. I dont like Weizenbier that much, but on a hot day its great with lemonade after hiking. Best one in my opinion, is Eichbaum Ureich, a bitter but also slightly sweet Premium Pils.

    In germany we say a hefe-weizen is an isotonic drink so we love to drink it after a nice workout or work. Its something you can drink to a nice meal too because its light and refreshing!

    The thing about Becks is, I'm pretty sure the American version is different from the German one, as is usual for many products that are manufactured in different countries. Beer produced in Germany has to fall under the regulations of the "Reinheitsgebot", which sets a beer brewing standard in Germany. My advice for the authentic German beer experience, import the beer straight from Germany!

    @@Princess_Slimeball Wieso das bitte? Soweit ich weiß zählt das Reinheitsgebot nach wie vor. Die meisten Brauereien benutzen nicht mal Säure oder Lauge um den pH-Wert anzupassen. Wie kommst du drauf? Weil man vermehrt zu Hopfenextrakt bzw. Pellets greift? Das verstößt nicht zwangsläufig gegen das Reinheitsgebot.

    @@TectorThe Das Reinheitsgebot regelt soweit ich weiß nur welche Zutaten beim Brauen verwendet werden dürfen. Zum Brauen von Bier nach dem Reinheitsgebot dürfen nur Wasser, Malz, Hopfen und Hefe verwendet werden. Es regelt aber nicht wie sie erzeugt wurden. Also kann die Gerste oder der Hopfen zum beispiel mit Pestiziden behandelt worden sein, und noch Rückstände davon enthalten.

    ja mag sein, aber die meisten Brauereien scheren sich nicht mehr so "Liebevoll" darum wie vielleicht früher mal. Hauptsache das Bier entspricht den mindesten Vorraussetzungen, damit sie das Reinheitsgebot auf die Dose/Flasche hauen können denn nur so dürfen sie es als "Bier" verkaufen. Massenproduktion halt Nicht falsch verstehen, aber ich denke mal das es den meisten Brauereien damals einfach wertvoller war als heute. Vorallem die alten Brauereien.

    Hi there.., southern Bavaria in da house. My favorite is the "Paulaner Salvator". It's a so-called "Doppelbock" beer, originally brewed by Paulaner monks in the 1600's. It's an intensely hoppy beer with double the amounts of well.., everything. Hops, malt, as well as alcohol content (around 12%). The monks drank Doppelbock during Lent, which is why it's also called a “meal in a glass”. It’s a full-bodied, rich, and malty lager. Take care y'all.., sendin' good vibes y'alls way. 🤙🏻👋🏻

    I live in Fibland and i found many beers from Usa that in summer its alright to drink them but they are usually very mild. Stone Brewing is nice! Also Sierra Nevada Brewing❤Destihl Brewery wild sour gose is next one to taste

    Love your enthusiam for the Hefeweizen. As a poor student in Munich there was one day in the week, where a local butchery offered lunch consisting out of a Pretzel, two Weißwurst and a Hefeweizen (which is quite filling) for a bargain. The lectures in the afternoon where always fun ;)

    Your favorite Beer was not just the Paulaner, it was the Hefeweizen Beer in generally. BTW: Weihenstephan not only makes Helles, they also have a very good Hefeweizen in their product line. Hefeweizen itself comes also in different types. I think, you had the "naturtrüb" ( engl. cloudy), it also comes in "Kristall" ( engl. clear) and "Dunkel" (dark). If you like Paulaner Hefeweizen and you can find the dark version of it in the US, you should definitely try it. Greetings from Germany.

    In english, "Prost" translates to " Cheers, "and it´s used as a toast to express good wishes or to drink to someone´s health. In Bavaria, we say beer is a common good, it should flow from the taps as a right for every person. 🍻

    You mentioned the whitecaps and they are also very important to us Germans. That's why we have different glasses for different types of beer. In the video you can see a Weizenglas because Weizen foams a lot and would overflow in a small glass. The first beer was a Helles which is usually served in smaller glasses so that the head lasts longer. There are also Pilsner glasses or Kölsch glasses. I wish you and your family all the best. 🤠🍻

    Weihenstephan is the worlds oldest brewery. "Hefe Weizen" is cloudy because it's unfiltered, the yeast is still in there. "Helles" and "Hefe Weizen" are very popular in southern Germany. Very mild w/o bitterness. In northern Germany "Pils" like Becks is the most consumed sort of beer. But here in Germany the Becks is a mild Pils. There's much more bitter Pils here like Holsten or Jever. If you like the taste of "Hefe Weizen" in general, try the Weihenstephan / Kloster Andechs / Prinzregent Luitpold ones if somehow available for you.     Pro tip: If you are pouring hefeweizen, pour the entire contents except for a little bit left in the bottom. Swirl the can/bottle (I normally buy it in bottles) to stir up the sediment, and quickly pour the remainder into the glass and let drip for a few seconds. The sediment settles in the bottom of the bottle, and this is how to get all that goodness in your glass. It also looks cool as it starts settling in the glass. Paulaner is one of my faves. Try Hacker-Pschorr.

    by the way, there is a University (part of TU Munich) in Weihenstephan where that beer is from. i studied there. the fun fact is, you can study brewery - science there and the University is known worldwide in the beer-bussiness

    usually with hefe weizen, the "hefe" or yeast is at the bottom of the bottle. so usually after you poured most of the beer, you roll the bottle in your hand, so the rest of the liquid losens the yeast and then you pour the rest. the weizen should also be cloudy because of the yeast (like with the second one). there are crystal weizen that are not cloudy so maybe the first one was one of those. i really have no idea how its done with a can. honestly never seen a hefe weizen in a can. also in germany a popular drink is to mix hefe weizen with banana juice and it is surprisingly good and refreshing. especially on hot days.

    left and right guy poured it in correctly. You have to have no foam till end! Then pour in from high postion! Glad you tested Paulaner, 'cause it's one of the best beers of bavaria (besides Augustiner, Franziskaner & Erdinger (all towns/breweries are near Munich XD)) Weihenstephan is near munich, too (bavarian agriculture univerity) If you like beer with lower alc, you should drink more western german dear from Rhineland or nothern germany, like Kölsch (like the becks you tried; it's cheap party beer with more hops).
