Usually the guys who are mean and treat people badly are insecure. True alpha males are the sheepdogs that take care of their pack and those around them. They have nothing to prove, and show their strength through their actions, not acting like they are someone when they are not. Just have to take one look at Brian Shaw that guy is one of the strongest men ever to walk the earth and one of the nicest.

You can see when Magnus is on the wall his muscles are nothing like what you see in any gym, there are so numerous, thin but long, intertwined, varied and dense, you see muscle you don't even know exist versus the inflatable muscles that you can count on one hand on typical 'look at me' gym buffs.

@@BoBo-pl3ww body fat is a false topic here, you get the muscle you use, body fat is only a cover it won't change the muscle definition. And wrong, to have such richly varied lean and long muscle has nothing to do with calorie burning but how varied the exercises are. No gym lifting machine can touch real practical sports like climbing. It only builds muscles that can be counted on a one hand instead of building a multitude.

From observation rather than experience I think size and build makes a huge difference as well. Like Juju is crazy strong , but bulky so he has more to lift and a definite low center of gravity. Climbing needs really strong abs as well as limberness and hand, finger, arm, and shoulder strength. (yeah, I am way too analytical). Climbing uses all your muscle groups at the same time. I think you really see the core or ab strength going into effect in climbing is when you see Magnus practically hanging like a bat yet his stomach is still close to the wall. I'm afraid of heights so I will never test this theory, but the whole process fascinates me.

its honestly crazy how much mobility juji has when doing stuff like this. he hasso much mass, yet moves so smooth and gracefully, alot of people dont appreciate how hard it is to do everything as well as he does. i've been 6'2" sincemy sophmore year of highschool, and let me tell you getting used to the height alone took a while. i would constantly trip, not be able to cut tight turns, not be able to control my power when it came to shooting a basketball or taking a swing in tennis or volleyball. after a year or so i balanced out pretty well, but honestly im not even half johns size in terms of strength and height to weight ratio, and i couldnt imagine getting my body to move half as gracefully as his does.

Just got this in my recommended. It's nice to watch these even if I have never climbed, because you just have a good time "chilling".

Magnus tries so hard to be genuine with his words of support, it’s like a dad watching his kids wiff a t ball. Love all of them together.

I'm 6'3", 195lbs and a former gymnast and I don't think I'd be able to do most of those climbs at age 36. I've only tried gym bouldering once but I was surprised by how difficult it is. Size is a liability up on the wall and seeing this huge dude doing so well at age 44 is impressive.

It's a huge advantage 99% of the time. Only in very, very peculiar circumstances is size a disadvantage in climbing (if it helps to be wedged in a narrow space between hands and legs).

@@MrCmon113 yeah for beginner level height can help a lot but it evens out as you progress and I think at some point even 1,75-1,82m / 5’10”-6’1” becomes the optimal range. I think Ondra once said that 1,75 would be perfect IIRC

I go to the gym 4x a week and the fact that I cann do pull ups is a major advantage. When I couldn't climb the propper way I finished the routes with arms only but that way you don't learn how to climb properly. It's funny though that I'm 185cm tall and 80 kgs but I'm the 'fattest guy' in the climbing room while I'm one of the skinniest in the gym.
