    I've always been skinny my whole childhood and when I suddenly started to get a bit fat, the same people who used to call me bamboo stick started telling me that I'm fat. So, my word is it doesn't matter if you're skinny or fat, people will always pass comments on you. And what I learned from my past is that nothing comes first than my health. If I'm healthy, I can do so many things and be happy. Edit- Thank you for all the replies, everyone. I know most of the people go through a lot of shit esp. unnecessary and unwanted criticisms from other people. But all I want to say is love yourself, live healthy, connect with your loved ones and be happy. May God bless everyone with the strength to complete our life's journey!! Also, if anyone thinks I'm phoney/ corny, that's okay. It's fun to read the comments😁😁😆😆

    Definitely true. Just like bodybuilding or just muscular aesthetics, if you're lean but not too big people call you skinny and that you need to eat more and get bigger. If you're big and muscular people will call you fat and too big, and if you're just lean and big and not too big people tell you to get bigger, there's never a right body type, only you can determine which one is right and stop gving a fawk about other people. Skinny, muscular, fat, etc.

    I mean the beauty standards change very quickly and have changed drastically over our history. For a long time, people who weighed more were valued much higher because it showed that they were rich enough to afford as much food as they wanted. Rounded shoulders were also seen as attractive, so women wore special necklines that made shoulders appear more round and soft and makeup to help with that effect, but not everyone could afford that either. It has always been "you're not ugly, you're just poor" and it still is because most of the beauty standards now are rarely naturally occuring (even through diets, exercise, skin care routines, etc.). They're mostly created through plastic and/or cosmetic surgery which are very expensive further enforcing that the rich are always viewed as more beautiful because they have the funds to make it happen.

    I got made fun of in middle school for being too skinny, a girl called me chicken legs and said I would never get any meat on my bones. I remember every day after school doing squats and wall sits to gain muscle there and years later in high-school I wanted to have skinny legs and a thigh gap again because that's what was "beautiful" now. When I was skinny my family called me a straw and bones and made fun of me bc I had no butt, when I was a bit heavier they made fun of me for having a belly in my swimsuit. Beauty standards will always tell you what to look like so just be the healthiest version of yourself.

    Being Fat in the medieval periods was actually seen as the beauty, since it meant that you had a lot of money to splurge on excess amount of food, but over time, as food and services became more accessible, it has become the opposite. Really interesting how polar opposite beauty standards can evolve, for all we know, being short would be the beauty standard for some reason.

    When I was joining 1st grade, I had 16kg and I needed 20kg to be enough "normal", And I was the smallest. The school principal decided to break the rule and she let me in the school while I was too skinny. In my class everyone called me a "stick". And every lunch they used to say "why aren't you eating?". The school lunch was TERRIBLE. When we had Pe class, I was changing in the bathroom. Every girl was outside chatting when getting ready. But I once heard them yelling at an skinny older woman, her bones were showing. That's why I was uncomfortable changing outside the bathroom, because my bones were also showing. If I hit myself, I would fell my BONES hurt. I always wore big winter jackets, so my bones didn't show as much as possible. At pe I had no chance, we had to wear white tops. No long sleeves or jackets. I was the smallest, skinniest person in my class, but there is something that made me fell special. I was one of the oldest in my class, and I was the smartest. When we were writing some stories for a grade, my stories would always have a round of applause. My teacher said I would be a writer when I grow up. Then I started gaining confidence. I didn't dress up in the bathroom, I dint wear jackets, I started wearing normal clothes. Right now I'm still the best at stories (of course they have been becoming harder, because many years have past) and I grew over 3 of my classmates. I'm still the skinniest, but I have 32kg :) my classmates had 36kg in 2th grade. The point of the story I wrote is to not let anyone make fun of you, if a stranger on the road says "you are so fat/skinny/ugly/tall/small!" just ignore them. If they don't know you then they don't know what you're really like. This took me much time to write. And it was wroth it. :)

    I like how this movie shows how important it is that we follow our own path, and not constantly strive for whatever the current beauty standard might be. Beauty trends come and go. A long time ago, extra weight was viewed as attractive (it proved that you weren't poor), and if you had a tan, you were looked down upon (it meant you had to work in the sun to earn a living). Man, these were really snobby beauty standards! Not that long ago, small butts were in, now huge ones are! People with a lot to gain help set these standards for beauty all for one purpose: MONEY.

    Societal pressures to be beautiful. We look at healthy as obscure, and the nonstandard as desired: In ancient China, women with the tiniest feet were sought out, leading many Chinese women to bind their toes into deformity into only inches, most couldn't even walk, as their toes/heels would curl into itself. These women were in pain everyday, until they died. There is a society in Southeast Asia, where they place golden rings around the neck every year, elongating it, to the point where they must wear the rings for life as they enter adulthood or the women can not support their long unnatural necks, as they might even suffocate without the rings in place. In the Victorian era, women would wear belt tightening devices, to warp their waists into a few inches - inches less than 8 - as they were considered beautiful and defined in the hips protruding outwardly from the small area, but it would push organs aside and these women could not support their backweight, would even risk breaking their spine for the perfect body, and cause vomitings from a deformed bowel system. They had to wear these belts for the rest of their lives. As the video says in the end, no matter what society views as beautiful, it will always pressure us to meet its unrealistic vision of what is beautiful. I think it's good to be body positive, no matter your shape, but also too, to promote a way of living, where we are not hurting ourselves to be an image of beautiful, that is always changing no matter what era it is. There is no such thing as perfect, because perfect is always changing of what people see as perfect - meaning the ideal body, really does not exist; we just convince ourselves we want to be what society makes us, losing our own bodies along the way trying to appease something or a pressure that can't be achieved, because society is never satisfied. Beauty is always changing, so realize, dear reader, that you are already beautiful to someone else, out there, waiting for you. This isn't to promote an unhealthy way of living, by no means, but also too, to realize you are worth more than you feel you are, and your body is already something wonderful. Take care of yourself, and society can't reshape you to a standard, that is always changing. Contentment, is where you find yourself. Just be you. Just be healthy. Just be happy.

    In some cultures I've read fuller body individuals are more desirable for various reasons, when it comes to young girls in these places some parents even resort to force feeding their daughters so that they can gain weight a lot quicker and eventually easily find marriage. Then in some cultures slimmer bodies are more desirable and so fort, there's different standards of beauty globally wherever you look. This is an interesting movie.

    "Fat" used to be the standard of beauty Post Victorian Era, as it implied one had enough wealth to feed themselves. It was the poor in society who were skinny due to malnutrition. As a statement of Anti-Aristocratic ideologies, the poor proclaimed skinny as elegant beauty. As technological advancements were made, many poor became "Middle Class", and the Middle Class's influence became more dominant. Thus today, skinny is seen as beauty. Even to the point of individuals forcefully embracing malnourishment.

    @Shinzen Young I'm in Advanced Medicine, skinny is not healthy. An average person is supposed to walk balance of having enough fat for the body to feed off, yet not too much as to contradict work that is required. Every person is different, the more work a body does, the higher the metabolism, (in most cases). "Lean" is okay, "Skinny" is unhealthy.

  • @user-kl4lm9rz7h

    @user-kl4lm9rz7h

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@6364LEGACY No no no. Skinny and lean are subjective terms, you can't say that skinny is unhealthy because it is only a term that you can use to describe someone, but you would never describe a patient "skinny" or "fat". "Cachectic" or underweight is how you describe someone who is pathologically "skinny". These terms are more accurate and precise and have some conditions. For "fat" people you'd use obese or morbidly obese. Persons metabolic rate (how much calories one burns) depends on BMR (that depends on body mass area) and activity (this is a minor portion of total metabolic rate, that is largely determined by BMR) Higher body mass, higher caloric "burning".
