World War Z - Philadelphia (full scene)
Фильм және анимация
Filming of the Philadelphia scene took place in Glasgow, Scotland in 2011. At least 3,000 people showed up at a casting call on July 9, 2011 hoping for the opportunity to appear in scene set in a financial district in Philadelphia.

I wish more zombie movies would do city scenes during the infection instead of after everyone is already dead. It’s way more interesting to see thousands of people running, screaming, and dying at the same time

I love how this movie introduces the zombies themselves, or maybe I should just call them the infected; there's no dramatic camera shot on one of them with a musical sting to kick things off. It just has a news announcement about a rabies infection, and then once we see the shots of the crowd running in a panic, the infected just show up, merging with the crowd. It's a different way of starting things off.

I think a buildup of home news with characters thinking it's tons of hoopla until it's too late is what we need. Maybe it's just a man on meth? Nope. Hero dies not even 30 minutes in and the others carry on, upset about the loss. That's how I think it would go.

I’ve never watched this movie before but this scene is genuinely one of the most frightening things I’ve seen that has come out of the zombie media. The fact that (I’m pretty sure) the zombies are still humans infected with the 28 days later-like virus is scary. The infected still being alive but being controlled is a brilliant idea for zombie movies and that the zombies will literally do ANYTHING THEY CAN just to infect the victims, even if it puts them in danger is TERRIFYING. Just by looking at the opening alone I can tell this is a brilliant movie.

The Beginning Of Knowledge If it was like this, or hell, even just slightly slower than normal running it would be hard as fuck. If you get caught at a public place while it's happening then your odds go to the shitter, if you live in a heavily populated area, your odds go to the shitter, if you don't have weapons at home your odds go to the shitter. Hell, they can pretty much get in your car while your driving in this movie so making it to a place without weapons would be hard.
@thejag4770

The Beginning Of Knowledge The walking dead would be easy, normal running would be extra terrifying but quick decision making is all that's required, though it would be tough. The best idea for finding a place to live I can think of is either a random place in wide open country area where hunting is possible and weather is always changing, because now that I think about it, zombies in this movie couldn't survive winter or if they were actually zombies I'm positive a majority would be frozen solid or slowed greatly. I say changing weather because growing food like fruits, vegitibles, seeds, nuts, and being able hunt would be necessary. You'd also have to have reserves of frozen food so a generator would be necessary. Shit besides that, I could probably live where I do now with some few upgrades and I would be fine, bar the outside glass doors, bar the windows, make a fence boarder around the house capable of keeping anything out with a gate in the front, collect reserves of gas early on. Weapons are already good to go.

I love the fact that we don't see the start of the explosion only the middle and end, I love it for two reasons. 1. He doesn't see it either, we get to feel the exact kind of terror he's feeling, we get to empathise, and 2. Tat exact kind of terror, the way he hesitantly looks, because he just heard something that he knows is BAD, and that we know is BAD, and to see the proof of it, that's shit scary.
I love how everything goes silent except for a ringing noise after every crash scene in a movie. It really adds to the drama.
This is the scariest take on the "Infected" zombie I think I've seen. Where the zombies are totally alert, and throw themselves like bullets with no regard for themselves. Just for the sake of spreading their microscopic masters.

This scene is quite brilliant actually. The slow build-up makes the crazy stuff more vivid.
I'm reading the book, currently. Imagine how much better this movie could have been if they hadn't turned it into an action movie with ultra-fast zombies. The movie could have followed the book more and been just as good if not better, going through people's stories they tell in the aftermath through flashbacks, making you care about each new character in their various struggles around the world, slowly showing the initial spread, panic, and push back. This movie does little to show the sheer dread that was written in the book, as well as moments like in Yonkers where the U.S military tried to make a stand and was overrun due to leadership incomptence, or in Ukraine where they drop nerve gas on thousands of refugees fleeing a burning Kiev to lessen the infection spreading, only to have a few dead get up again and the survivors having to fight them off. Instead, we got copy-pasted zombies from I Am Legend doing the Naruto run and Brad Pitt with plot armor playing a scientist who conveniently is also smart, strong, knows how to fight, and use guns.

There are a couple reasons I can think of that they deviated so heavily from the source material (so much so as to make it similar in name and small details only, in my opinion), but the most likely is that it's a two-hour film, and there are constraints that come with that. It's standard practice to have a narrative through-line for audiences to identify with and easily latch onto. Brooks' "interviews" are perfectly segmented, and though some lead into one another, none are completely connected. It's harder for a movie audience to get invested in multiple characters, multiple stories, without that connection -- especially as many as Brooks wrote for. You could have Krygyzstan, the border traffickers and the Canadian regiment, _or_ you could have the Battle of Yonkers, _or_ you could have Ukraine and the Holy Russian Empire -- but you can't have all of them within the constraints of a 2-hour film without someone who seriously, _seriously_ knows how to parse through what to keep and what to discard and how to weave it all together. The through-line _could_ have been the interviewer, I suppose, but in a way that defeats Brooks' express purpose of having the stories be the centerpiece rather than one singular person. This movie did that anyways with Brad Pitt's character, but I digress. Broad appeal, a presented-as-everyday-but-way-too-skilled and relatable hero to root for, a straightforward plot. That's what would sell, and it did. Brooks' "World War Z" is the kind of story that, if it's to be adapted faithfully, needs to be made for TV. Honestly, it's gift-wrapped for it.

6:22 Fun Fact, when the helicopter flies over the place where the main characters were just before they escaped in the RV, thats actually George Square in Glasgow, Scotland
One thing I keep noticing about the father is that he is always looking everywhere and examining so he can know what’s going on, and gather information.
The “transition from normal life to apocalypse” scenes are what I always look forward to in zombie movies. This is one of he best. The remake dawn of the dead also has a pretty cool one.

Literally this. There is this comic series called "Crossed" about this infection that strikes everywhere around the world, all at once. I love how this scene builds. The family are not main characters throwing themselves into middle of action, but survivors scrambling as best they can to get out of a sudden, overwhelming, terrifying event. Also really like how they discover the infection rate by accident, just because someone stepped on a children’s toy. Gerry didn’t just instinctively know it or somehow remember to time it in full panic mode.
4:55 the time the toy said "the train reached the station" Is a metaphor of the virus finally reaching the brain.

It was an adaptation of a book, and the movie was basically the exact opposite of the book it's based on. In the WWZ book, the zombies are more like The Walking Dead, and it doesn't simultaneously start everywhere. It starts in China and spreads through the black market and organ trade/donations, unknowingly spreading it worldwide. Also, the military is incompetent as hell at first, but they managed to get their shit together and wage a brutal war for a decade, and even then, zombies still exist and pop up every now and again. In the movie, it's basically just like any other zombie movie, only with fast zombies.

It was great when this filmed here in Glasgow. I have a funny story involving my friend Neelum who was an extra. I worked as a runner on the shoot and everyone involved signed an NDA. My pal Neelum (girl with glasses beside white hat at 4:46) didn’t obey this all the time however so one time when we were out of set at the coffee place in Buchanan Galleries she was talking about certain scenes in public and luckily I had some silver tape in my backpack as I was required to have some for sticking down cables etc so I taped over Neelum’s mouth with said tape mission impossible style so she wouldn’t reveal anything to listening ears!

4:50-5:13 I love the convenience of the stuffed animal perfectly timing it's counting with how long it takes to transform into a zombie
What I noticed about these zombies is tht they inherited the traits from most animals we saw in the opening credits . The way they run, hide and attack is the way a cheetah, lion or tiger would attack they're prey. . The way they climbed the Jerusalem wall is the way ants (similar to the ants from Indiana jones 4 originally named “Siafu ants” ) work together in order to get over obstacles . . The way they pushed over the bus in Jerusalem is the same act a stampede or herd of animals would've done Which leads me to my theoretical question: what if the virus originated from infected insects or parasites and soon infected any predator that tried feeding on them and then infected other predators that fed on them, basically acting against the food chain order

Though this could have been a highly infectious disease and spread from little insects ants to eventually humans zombies work together in real life there's a fungus that ants will eat and it actually controls them and so this could be like that disease but herd animals accidentally ate these ants while eating grass and it just escalated
The place shown during the rampage (George Square) is actually in the centre of my city. It’s so weird walking by it after watching this, and The Flash too.
The toy counting to 12 was a nice touch. It added an extra layer of eeriness to the scene while also clueing in Brad Pitt's character.
