The movie depicts the beginning of the war. In the book, The War (That took decades to fight) has been over for 10 years, and a guy from the UN goes around the world, collecting testimonies of people who lived through the war (Civilians, Military Personnel, Governement Officials, ect...). Some are horrifing, some are down right just sad. Great read. Highly recommend.

The only mistake this movie made, was calling itself like the phenomenal book, which has a very different approach. Otherwise World War Z is one of the rare movies that shows the actual catastrophe and doesn't do a time jump.

To be honest, a streaming series, filmed like an after the fact documentary closer to the book, would do more justice to the story.

I was hoping for an interview w a vampire style of brad pit interviewing people after and gathering their oral history of survival and flashing back into it. It’s a fun romp but nothing like the book and more Brad Pitt races to save his family from Zombies.

As much as I like films like 28 Days Later, fast zombies are a mistake in this film. Everyone likes to joke that classic Romero zombies are too slow and you can easily out run them but whats scary about slow zombies is that they are decaying flesh that don't function like humans at all. They are mindless ghouls. Run from them all night and stop to sleep like the hare, they'll keep coming at the same pace like the tortoise. If they freeze in the winter you'll have to worry about them come spring thaw. Fast zombies just freeze and die. Traditionally fast zombies starve and get tired from running eventually. You don't even need a headshot to kill fast zombies because they're basically rabid humans. Yeah they're fast and terrifying but fast zombies and slow zombies to me are the difference between terror and horror. Terror comes at you quick and its over whereas horror is that loud cacophony of moans slowly banging down your window. Horror is crowds of slow zombies surviving on the ocean floor. Horror is a creature that not only survives nuclear fallout, but spreads the radiation with its body afterwards as it continues to shuffle around. Horror is the Battle of Yonkers (the best scene in the book) where all the advanced might of the modern military completely fails to kill an enemy thats basically already dead. If the Battle of Yonkers occured in the movie with the fast zombies it would have been a completely different scene where all the advanced weapons actually works fine against them. I'd love an HBO miniseries of the book where each season is one of the 5 acts of the book and every episode is a chapter. But what is integral to the show is that they use the slow zombies from the book. Its doesn't work at all with fast ones.

Sarah: with regards to your question of whether to pull something out in a situation where you've been impaled by something: The answer is pretty simple really. In general its BAD to pull it out, BECAUSE whatever is stuck in you is stemming the bleeding, stopping you from losing any more blood, and keeping most of the blood from the wound inside you, where you obviously want it. Also, removing whatever stabbed you will also almost always cause more trauma on the way out, even if it goes out the same way it came in, damaging your flesh more, and will obviously cause more pain (partly because of the blood loss.) HOWEVER, This is not to say there is NO situation where removing a penetrating object is the best way to stay alive. It very much depends on the specific situation, but in a case where whatever impaled you is known to be radioactive, or in any way doing damage to you over time, or leaking anything that isn't harmless into your body, then in most cases unless it would cause fatal blood loss or potentially damage vital organs such as your heart, its potentially more important to remove whatever it is from your body as carefully and as quickly as possible, and keep pressure on the wound itself. Worth saying this is a HIGHLY unlikely scenario in a first world country, and you should essentially always leave whatever it is that has impaled you in, especially if you're unsure. Also be sure to keep pressure around the wound, even if its best to leave the object in. While I'm talking about odd scenarios, in the case that whatever has impaled you is particularly hot or cold, unless it is literally setting you on fire, its probably a good thing its at an extreme temperature, since it being either very hot or very cold will very quickly cauterize the bleeding it caused by hitting you. Stay Safe!

However, in the midst of a zombie apocalypse... if whatever it is that has impaled you is also "pinning you to a fixed object" ... pulling it out so that you can move and get to your destination point would probably be more advisable than being a stationary target

YES!! My family and I watched this and we loved it There were talks of a Sequel, but it cancelled due to budget concerns, and another reason why the film was cancelled is because Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster wouldn't stop butting heads during production and that a lot of footage was filmed but cut, much to the chagrin of Pitt, and the script was being rewritten several times during filming. Also, there was an incident that involved live ammo being used in the film. An FBI SWAT team broke into a warehouse that had both live and fake ammo, as someone switched the labels, intentionally. It happened the day before they were going to film an action scene in New York, with Military personnel opening fire on the zombies.

General rule: If you are impaled by something, you do NOT want to pull it out. There are rare exceptions of course. If you are impaled and you're unable to be detached from whats impaling you, and there is no medical help coming or near by, or if you are in something like a burning car or burning building, and delaying would likely mean you would succumb to smoke or fire, then you have no choice. Un-impale yourself, put serious pressure to the wound, if possible put on a tourniquet, lie down, elevate your feet and stay calm. Get medical help ASAP.

You have Max Brooks ( the writer as the man doing the interviews), Mark Hamill, Simon Pegg, Martin Scorsese, Alan Alda, Rob Reiner, Nathan Fillion, and many more. It is just an awesome cast that they put together and the whole audiobook sounds more like a historical documentary than a work of fiction and it is just amazing........ you won't be disappointed. I have a love hate relationship with this movie. If you haven't read the book, its probably a zombie flick thats somewhere between ok and pretty decent. If you have read the book, all it has in common with the film is the title, and a few lines of dialogue. ....some of what is discussed in Israel is in the book. And thats it, nothing else is the same. The sad thing is that during development, there was an entirety different version of the script that more or less matched the book. The book author was really happy with it. Then Brad Pitt got involved and we have what we have now.

The book is infinitely better. And I do agree with the people saying this would've been better off done as a multi part series instead of the poorly done movie. PS: with Korean zombie films, you gotta check out Kingdom

There was a sequel planned (the original idea was a trilogy) but production was a bit troubled because this first movie costed way more than anticipated and its relative success wasn't enough to break-even. Anyway, they managed to start preproduction in 2019 but then China banned zombie movies from their market (for obvious reasons) so producers decided to cancel the entire project because it became not economically promising. Shame because according to Brad Pitt the plot for the sequel was very good.

The only thing this movie has in common with the book is the title. That said this is actually a pretty good movie. If it were called anything else it probably would have been more successful.

Gerald and Geraldine would make sense for 'Gerry'. Even Gerard. Don't know how they got 'Jerry' with a J. I'm stumped.

The book is great, but very different from this movie. Regarding the vaccine, I always imagined it as something they developed that makes you appear sick to the zombies, but doesn't actually make you sick.

Perhaps making everyone carriers of deadly diseases? Like you can infect I thers, and the disease is always active in you? Like Mary Mallon (aka Typhoid Mary). She was never sick from the disease, but thousands of people were infected from her, and as many as 50 died. She ended up being forced to spend around 30 years of her life in quarantine.
