    he Robot at the end was mind boggling, it said it "wanted" to do something else, and ontop of that it responded to the man like if it were another person if he did something to it or said something to it.. That robot by far has my vote for the smartest A.I. on Earth.

    Russian Turnipz it's just an act. There is no understanding in it at all. It's speech recognition like a cellphone does and then preprogrammed reaction to a few known sentences. It's 100% fake. Asimo is the most advaned by far but it's a fundamentally flawed premise that you can program discrete abilities. Reality is far too complex for such a simplistic approach which is why Asimo is 100% useless in reality. Nao is kid's toy. None of them have any AI of significance. Not even a little.

    Laws of robotics: 1- A robot must protect human life above all else. 2- A robot must protect it's own existence unless it Interferes with the first law. 3- A robot must follow the commands of a human unless it Interferes with the first or second laws.

    I find this aspect of human psychology fascinating. It's a machine just like a toaster or washing machine or laptop. But once we give it human features, movements, and a voice people start giving it gender pronouns, empathizing when it falls, and attributing feelings of connection to it. Anthropomorphism is a powerful thing.

    Indeed, for NOW they do lack a lot of things, not just compassion. But, when they 'acquire' self-awareness, they will start loving themselves and the life itself, which will lead to all of the complex emotions we now have. You realize that even if asimo as a unit serves no purpose, the technology designed to create him has practical uses in industrial robots and other consumer products, and may eventually be a building block to a real self thinking robot that is capable of carrying out tasks.

  • @nzoomed

    @nzoomed

    10 жыл бұрын

    hzuiel Quite true, but how much of the technology has Honda actually developed on their own for it? The main thing would be the software to run it that they would have developed, things such as processors, and sensors etc more than likley built by third parties. Its still a big step in robotics, but we need to see more.

  • @hzuiel

    @hzuiel

    nzoomed en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asimo#Development_history It mentions no third parties. I'm not sure why that would matter either.... My point is that it's a stepping stone to more advanced robots. Every thing we develop or discover leads to the next.

  • @nzoomed

    nzoomed What are you basing your discrediting of honda on though? It's hard telling how many have worked in that division of honda, with however many man hours, over the course of what looks to be about 34 years now. Are you seriously implying that they just took some sensors from some other company, and a few parts from a hobby shop and threw them together to make a mascot?

    Asimo and Nao are just useless toys. Search for "Darpa" to see real robots which are more or less autonomous.

    I'm well aware of what DARPA has when it comes to robotics but I'm more concerned with robots being integrated and coexisting with man , DARPA is more about the military applications of robots

    At the base of their intelligence they're all just coding, really. The way they process and use information from around them is pre-programmed. Self-conscious computers/robots still don't exist in this age of time.

    True, but Aismo basically plots a chart and is up to date with all sorts of stuff happening. Check out their website. It's coding but more complex then the other two.

    well, that looks promising on the looks and movement front. but the main difficulty is to emulate the brain. i.e. human thinking. we're so hopelessly far behind on that one. we think the way we do because of the time we spent growing and learning. but what we try to do is build an A.I. that already thinks like us without any self-development. the key aspect is learning: perfect A.I. is not one that thinks, feels or reacts like humans but one that learns like humans.

    compared to how far we are concerning the design of the exterior. robots we make are already beautiful, we can make them pretty small or we can even make them look exactly like a human (minus their movement). but they're dumb as shit.

  • @dizzykiwi3

    As well, most of these designs dont function at all how the human body works, using gears and axes rather than tissue and muscles. It's kind of like planes and birds. They both fly, and planes fly faster. And so these robots can do certain things better than humans (lift objects, etc) but because they're not designed like humans, they can fundamentally never be like humans, as cosmetically as they may seem like one, which is why you can make a robot walk but making it pick up a feather or write with a pencil is a completely different issue.

    As soon as I can have a very small robot which can prepare my dinner when I m back from work, alarm me via SMS and a huge alarm when someone try to steal my bag at the beach, let my neighbours know that strange people are around in hour Street and... Make foot massage when I m in my bed at the beach.. So need full connectivity sensors, alarm, speak with me and huge battery and solar as well... And very reliable... I think that I ll bring it to all my travels and that robot will be my best friend for my mobility and for keeping my family safe. I m sure to be the first customer!!

  • @TheNerdynigga

    @TheNerdynigga

    9 жыл бұрын

    David Nguyen the thing is something can't be fully adapted to nature. To adapt is to respond to change. There is a nearly infinite potential for change in any environment so its impossible to fully adapt. To create a robot that can adapt like we can is incredibly difficult. It would essential be a true Artificial Intelligence. We don't understand enough about how our brains work yet. We will but as it stands its just not possible.
