    If anyone was wondering, the 'terrain terrain pull up pull up' you are hearing was not actually sounding in real life 🤣I believe the editors have added that on top of the audio. As you can see on the upper ECAM at 5:38 'TERR OFF' is being displayed which inhibits the aural warning which you can press on the overhead panel. :) otherwise that would be rather alarming to hear during landing while you are trying to concentrate haha

    Completely unnecessary to add that if that's the case.

    I was not wondering, I knew right away, even without looking at the ECAM. SOP for a GWPS warning are clear. As soon as you hear that you absolutely DO pull up. It's mandatory. That's why the system gets switched off on approaches like this, because they are flown visually anyway.

  • @adityabee1

    @Quotenwagnerianer

    Not it was clearly added. The ECAM indication "Terr off" means that the system was switched off. As it has to be, like I explained already. You are legally required to pull up if you hear that warning.@@mcomism

    I went to Bhutan in 2011. I couldn’t see much of the landing as the weather was bad. I was amazed at the terrain when I was leaving. There were no fancy hotels, only small 5-10 room hotels with a wood stove. I remember Paro as being very loud because of the feral dogs. The penis’ were all over the place. We went to the temple of fertility and I was smacked on the head with a wooden and a stone penis. Climbing up to Tigers Nest was very hard as it was so steep, and I was avoiding the cats,horses, and monks going up and down the mountain. Never again (especially at my age 😂) We saw the Mt. Everest range flying back to Bangkok via Bangladesh. My diary of the trip was 52 pages front to back. Fantastic trip.

    Great video as always. Part of the reason Bhutan is challenging is what would happen if the aircraft made a balked landing and had to climb out with an engine failure. Thankfully extremely rare, but the issue would be climb performance on a single-engine go-around and terrain clearance.

    Great video - I love your channel! I flew many times with infinite flight (flight simulator) to Paro and I have to say, it really is the most difficult airport to land, surrounded by mountains - even with flight instruments, you have to fly a manual approach as ILS /VNAV are not an option... btw that last unexpected steep hill before landing is insane as you sharply descent at the very last moment, while trying to reduce speed - engaging full brakes / reverse thrusters on high elevation....Josh, also check following airports that are on the same level of difficulty to land: Lhasa (Tibet), Bole (Addis Adeba - Ethiopia) and Aspen / Colorado - if you want, I can send you my replays / channel link of my landings if you want to use my material in the future (for free of course..)

    Paro isn't the most dangerous... Lukla (Nepal) is. You have to fly onto a runway halfway up a mountain in the Himalayas and, at the end of it, is the mountainside. Yes, that's right, you have to fly onto a runway with the end being the rock face of the mountain. So you'd better stop quickly, otherwise you crash. And when you take off, you take off downhill, with the runway ending in a 9,000 foot drop.

    Cool video Josh. My uncle used to be a flight engineer on Cathay Pacific 747-400 jets and he told me several stories about landing at the old Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong from AKL, and other places that he used to fly to/from. Part of the story involved a hard turn as the plane went over H.K. at near roof top height, and - from memory - a cockpit warning just like or similar to the one at the start of this video. Before you say most difficult approach in the world, there are a couple hair raisers in the Andes I understand.

Well one question, why are allmost all videos documenting a landing in Paro titled "most dangerous .....". I would agree to "difficult", "very challenging" everything true, my impression was that the people in Bhutan are not adrenalin junkies but very reasonable responsible and nice people - which is some contrast to operating the "worlds most dangerous" airport
