I wish they'd bring back those legendary 18-35 f1.8 and 50-100 f1.8 for RFS. But they definitely need to do the 150-600.

I used to have a canon EOS R and swapped to Lumix for similar reasons. For me, the s5iix is better than anything else out there in my price range right now.

Excellent Lens! I assisted my good friend in building his podcast studio and since he went with sony aps-c I had him pick up a couple 18-50s and one 10-18. I'm looking forward to the release on these for canon because after I had the opportunity to set his studio up I was pretty impressed on how they looked on the Sony's.

I would like to see more stuff similar to this for sure. As I am planning to get an R10, this lens seems like a really good alternative to the larger kit lens coming with the R10. That lens being the RF-S18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM. As I mentioned previously with an interest for filming miniature painting. I had a slight revelation. It will be similar to vlogging at the distance of about 4 feet at most from the camera. I'll need about a foot of in focus depth or more for the miniature to stay visible in that space as it is moved around in front of the camera. Most likely being shot from just over my head or there about. This seems like a good option. Plus still be good for getting out with for taking pictures as well with variety. I got my depth of field information from the dof simulator. Good at least for a rough idea for my purposes.

Thank you for clarifying that it doesn't have the vignette that typically appears on full-frame cameras, because that is HUGE. Although it won't bother me since I have the R6ii, but knowledge is power, right? Dude, your White Cedar preset is MAGICAL. I mean, it brought your test images to life instantly!

Hello, have you tried the sigma 18-50 2.8 for the Canon R7? I currently use the Canon 17-55 2.8 with an adapter for the R7 and I don't know if the change is worth it, the weight is less but in terms of quality and performance? good video!

I love the size of this lens and Sigma always gives such great quality images.. that said, too bad I have a Canon R6 Mark ii full frame camera.. Still I would love to be a Beta Tester for your new Lightroom presets, they look amazing from the few you showed :) Let me know what I need to do for this. Thanks so much!!!

I bought the 18-35 f/1.8 and an adapter to go on my R10 about a month before this lens got announced. I thought about trading it in for the 18-50, but the things that it does better are not that important to me (size/weight, focusing speed, sharpness etc.)

I have an R10 and currently just have an RF 100-400mm. Looking for a good lens for general use and closer shots. I keep hearing about the issue of no IS in this lens, and with the R10 not having IBIS, how much of a limitation is this? The shots I am seeing do not seem to make that much of a difference unless you plan on shooting in low light situations, which is not my plan. I also do not plan on using this for video. Should I be waiting for a lens with IS, or is this a good choice for amateur photography?

This lens will be perfect for what you’re doing! Not having stabilization doesn’t really matter for general photography

IBIS might work better in crop mode for video because the sensor won't have to work as hard when moving around for IBIS.

Without IS would this be acdeptable on the R10? Im tossing up between this and the Canon EFS 17-55 2.8 with the adaptor

I don't know about picking this up. I already have the older Sigma 18-35 f1.8 which shaves 15mm, and bigger, and heavier...but its an f1.8! And since I use the Meike VND drop-in adapter, I save on buying CPL and ND filters. The AF is still fast and accurate in my R7, and I do have the older EF nifty fifty with the plastic mount. So this 18-50 doesn't fill in anything for me. I'd love to see more zooms, telephoto and super zooms from Sigma to get the RF treatment, plus revive some of the older ones like the 18-35 and 50-100 f1.8 for us APS-C shooters.

@zegzbrutal I'm just happy to finally see RF Sigma lenses, but disappointed it wasn't something I could use. I'd love to see those older Sigma lenses go RF, but I'm guessing they may no longer be in production. Having them mount natively would have saved a little misshape I had with my Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L a couple of months back. Despite hearing the lock snap and taking several photos, it got loose of the adapter and fell.

Same on the 18-35! Definitely waiting for the 10-18 and the 56mm 1.4. Those will be absolute game changers for me. I'm keeping my R7 lol, who needs full frame anyway 😂

I absolutely love my sigma 18-50mm for sony-e great to see canon finally allowing sigma on their platform. It would be awesome if they brought the 100-400 to canon mount too for an "affordable" telephoto zoom

@@justinburley8659 f number isn't a problem, equivalent lens on e/x mount that ends with f6.3 will struggle ias well n low light. the stabilization from RF100-400 allows slow shutter is more critical imho

@@zegzbrutal I personally own the lens and I love it. My point was to highlight how it performs excellently with sharpness that can rival the 100-500 at times. But its only flaw is that aperture. I actually use the lens for sports, and I have gotten photos I really love simply because I have the reach that others don’t. With budget zooms, compression is your friend, and this lens has it in spades

I have the older 18-35, and it's very doable...but heavy. That lens is quite big since it's an f1.8 with an internal zoom. So the 18-50 would be much easier.

18mm converts to 24mm ff. Personally I know it wouldn't work for me if I was handheld vlogging. I'd wait until a 10-18mm comes out!

why not test it on the r5? it has a similar (still lower) optical resolution demand to the r7

Can someone knows if this lens work even in full frame? I've tested the 10-18 with my Sony and adding stabilization it's usable from 13mm to 24 because cut the vignette

You will have circle frame (vignetting) if it's mounted on a full frame. You can switch to crop/aps-c mode but will lose megapixel count.

If you put the 18-50 on a crop sensor camera you will get a similar field of view as if you put a 24-70mm on a full frame camera

It's a parallel upgrade, meaning you get a smaller lighter lens, but no IS

I am using a 50mm 1.8f rf on a crop sensor. I don't mind testing out the presents.

What the sigma 😲

The fact the lens doesn't have IS just makes it an instant no for such a huge portion of the potential market. Sure the r7 has IBIS but other RFS cameras like the r10 don't. Was debating if this will end up being worth the upgrade from the somewhat bulky combo of the ef-s 2.8 and an adaptor but I guess it turns out maybe not! Seems like a weird miss to make

It may or may not be by choice. The lack of OS could be the cripple Canon is forcing, for the time being at least. But the R10 and under cameras at least do have digital IS, which sometimes can work better...no IBIS wobble. You just have to take the heavier crop into consideration.

it's not the end of the world. with safety shutter and a normal arm. R50 with this lens is light enough to pull off something like 1/10 at 18mm end.

Liked the sound of this lens but the lack of IS would be my concern, shooting with an R10 (came with the 18-45, before Canada had the kit with the 18-150) that does not have IBIS. Not likely often but there would be some instances where that extra light from the f/2.8 aperture would be lost to faster shutter speed. Right now I want to add the RF 15-35 f/2.8 to my set (thinking of going full frame down the road anyway) but if this had IS that would really change that idea.

I don't own one, and with only 3 days I didn't have time to source one before the lens was released.

i have a Canon R7 and i had wait this lens since long time. but i'm a bit disappointed about it ( did you have some blur when AF zooming in video mode ? ) ! i have already some cheap EFS lenses ( 24mm, 50mm, 10-22mm ). i would like to move to a RF lenses, because in the futur, i might buy a Canon R6... but RF are so expensive ! ( i think about the 24-70, 70-200... ) and with a f2.8 ( as the R7 is an APSC sensor )... so it's damn expensive. that's why i'm super fan of SIGMA. Actually i don't know what to do... buy this new lense or maybe choose the legendary SIGMA 18-35 f1.8... or maybe still wait..
