Great video. I adopted a Black adult male GSD, and I truly feel I won the dog lottery. He is a European Working Line GSD, beautiful and intimidating with his size. Before having my boy I had been attacked while running in the forest and because of this incident I had completely stopped running. With my GSD, I am now able to run again and go anywhere I want because my boy protects me. The peace of mind I have is invaluable. The Protection dogs in this video are amazing.

Years ago my brother and I had a house full of expensive guitars, Pa systems, amps and such. We came home to find Dereck our beloved faun dobie pacing madly about in front of a screen window that had been cut open with the window pane broken. Aphrodite our sweet black and tan was no where in sight. We found her half an hour later roaming around the neighborhood extremely agitated. I believe someone attempted to break in and ran into the best security system in the world. To this day all these years gone by I still love and miss those dogs like you wouldn't believe. And I'm not ashamed to admit there are tears in my eyes as I relate this memory of those two great friends of my youth.

She is an intellegent happy dog loves and trusts people once she gets to knowthem I love her natural guarding traits and suspiciousness of strangers. I have trained her using alot of the techniques these companies use, minus the bitework. A barking dog showing it's teeth and standing it's ground is more than enough deterrent. Thankyou for another great video Anneka

@J. D. My Kona is a Shiloh Shepherd. This breed is supposed to be a little more mellow and low key but she is all high drive very fast and athletic. The breeder was very pleased with athletisim from the litter. Kona looks more wolfy too which helps the deterrence factor👍 We live on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia with miles of trails and old logging roads to walk...and I just can't wear her out! Good luck with the training👍😎

I want a Dobie eventually, and that is always a fear for me if this situation ever came up. But then again, even if you have a gun, they're a lot more effective at range than close quarters. If you're close enough to mug someone, you're not going to have enough time to take aim, and shoot the dog when you realize it's going to attack. But I think the biggest protection these animals provide, is simply in crime prevention. If I'm a crook, and want to mug someone, and I see someone walking by with a Shepherd, or Dobie, I'd probably pass. Have to remember that the average crook is also opportunistic. Just my two cents though. I'm also not a dog training expert. lol

@@joshuadavidson3689 Dobs are great too, very protective of their family. Yes, those dogs are very dissuasive for ordinary opportunists. In France, laws are different. Weapons are prohibited unless to have a permit, but black market feeds certains areas. Therefore, if a bugglar trespasses in the middle of the night and a dog attacks him, the owner, within his own house is the one who'll have all the problems because in that case the dog falls under the law of being an "improvised weapon". Those protection dogs are for security companies mainly and not allowed without a special permit to citizens. Police and Army have their own canine companies.

The dogs would not allow anyone to get withing 10 meters of the sandbox even if they knew the person, neighbor or friends. One time a neighbor walked in and wanted to hug me. 2 of the Shepards jumped him and sat on him until my mother came out and told them good job and gave the treats. But there’s such misconceptions about defense dogs that was impossible to go around the town or parks without a muzzle. Therefore defeating the purpose of such beautiful companion. Mrs Pleasants I don’t disagree with the quality of these dogs or the cost of a fully trained 2-3 yr, but at the end of the day if you cannot control a trained dog especially a gsd don’t get one . I paid 2k for my boy trained and loved him well and he will switch on and off no problem .

Was your dog trained to protect you? I just ask because I have owned 2 show bred Gsds, and the female wouldn't protect me when I was attacked in my house, my male Gsd wasn't there at the time, so I don't know whether he would have protected me.

Sometimes depends on how much time u spend with them, mine 4 1/2 month gsd, when he sees a stranger coming if he’s far he’ll come close and will keep his eyes on the person until I tel him it’s ok, I didn’t teach me that but in a short time it became a normal thing for him to do.

I know it’s a blunt question, but I really love the work you’re doing with the animals especially with the wolves😍 Soon I’ll be a student of veterinary medicine and I just want to see what are my options, because I really want to concentrate my work around wild animals and wildlife in general. If what you do for a living doesn’t involve anything animal related you really don’t have to answer to my kinda rude question. And if you happen to answer, please share as much details about the job as you are comfortable with. Thank you some much in advance, and keep saving the animals, it’s what you do best❤️

It's a little bit justified. These dogs are hand selected from expensive, long-standing working bloodlines. Only a few puppies from each litter might have what it takes, and then only a few of those few might actually make it all the way through the training. And there is A LOT of very very intensive training, teaching the dog to have confidence, bark correctly, bite correctly, not be focused on the sleeve, not be deterred by uneven footing, not be distracted, let go on command, etc, etc, etc. On top of normal obedience training. It's a lot of work that is put into these animals. The only reason I say a "little bit" justified is because the price of the dogs is inflated purely because well-trained protection dogs are in high demand. If they didn't sell for £50k, they wouldn't be priced at £50k. They can basically charge what they want, within reason, because they are in demand. Males tend to go for more just because they are males. Larger dogs tend to go for more just because they are larger. And yes, "prettier" dogs go for more too. They are essentially a product, so they are very much affected by demand.

  • @soundmind6477

Jenny “only a few puppies from each litter might have what it takes” and what might that be exactly? Most dogs who love their owners and have basic training have “what it takes” to defend their owners. I’m sure you can think of 101 different reasons that these dogs are worth the ridiculous price tag they come with, however, most sensible people will not even entertain spending that amount of money on a guard dog.

Dogs are awesome. They’re incredibly loyal, will love you unconditionally and are quite fun. That said, paying $50k or 50,000£ is insane. First of all, who’s going to attempt to mug someone with a Doberman, German Shepherd or any large dog? Also, paying someone else to train your dog without your complete immersion in the process can be dangerous. I guess this is just a nice opportunity to film an infomercial for these trainers.

I know I'm late, but in another video, I'm pretty sure they mentioned that the soon-to-be owners _are_ included in the training. The humans are trained to handle the dog, and the dog is trained to obey the humans. Anneka told one dog to let go ("Out!/Aus!") and it took a few tries since, as the male handler said, the dog wasn't quite used to her voice commands yet. This company takes every precaution in training these dogs. You can be sure that they'll take every person in the dog's orbit into account, as well.

What beautiful dogs! I grew up with black german shepherds and these dogs just naturally have these tendencies. They are incredibly loving, affectionate, protective, loyal and intelligent while their instinct to protect is intense. I couldn't imagine how magnificent they are with such intensive training. There is a reason only certain breeds of dogs are used in this manner, it isn't always about size... it's loyalty and intelligence.
