THE GIANT SCHNAUZER - NON-MOULTING PROTECTION GUARD DOG

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The Giant Schnauzer is the world's most incredible hypo-allergenic, non-moulting family pet, guard dog and protection dog. His breeding has created a dog who will protect your family with his life, be cute and cuddly for your kids plus not moult fur all over your house. What could be better? Today we meet 4 protection dogs from Trident Elite K9 & award winning Extremus Dog Training (Dogs4Wildlife). We find out their character and how they are with people, what its like to have one as a pet, as well as witness their training first hand as lethal family protection dogs.

My Giant saved my life when I was 6 years old and a guy tried to pull me into a van. Well, not pull, but he chatted me up then grabbed my hand and it was the end of the discussion for the dog. I didn't even tell my parents for a few years because I was worried they will be angry at him for attacking the guy so I hid it as a secret until I was maybe 10 or 11 and I realised what had ACTUALLY happened :-D Isn't this weird! It's been 30 years now he's gone and I still dream of him and miss him and sometimes hear him in the mornings before I am fully awake. I hear him jumping around being happy that we're about to go for a walk.

I am going to research the Giant Schnauzer more to see if the breed suits my lifestyle. I want to be sure that he/she gets enough exercise and is mentally stimulated enough. I don’t know that I would be exercising him/her enough, as I am hearing they need at least an hour of walk + additional excercise & mental stimulation daily. I know not to commit to this as I wouldn’t be able to follow through every day. It’s so important to check out a dog breed, it’s temperament, and its needs, before deciding which breed to get. A Dog is always part of the family. It’s terribly confusing for the dog to be placed outside the family, if it does not “work out.” I do know how to be the ‘alpha.’ These strong dogs that are great for guard duty are not for the meek. You MUST know how to handle them, physically & mentally. You must do it the ‘Dog Whisperer” way. This is the way the dog understands.

I grew up with a beautiful Giant Schnauzer. She loved to hang out with my sisters, me and our friends all day long when we were outside playing. She could be a bit on guard with adult men she didn't know, but as soon as she understood they were no threat she was just a sweetheart.

I refer to the Giant Schnauzer as the "hidden gem of the protection dog world". As you've stated, they are hypo allergenic, they don't shed, they don't look menacing, yet they are fantastic protection dogs. The main drawback is their coat maintenance and some have been known to be a bit more difficult to train compared to Doberman's, GSD's, etc.. They look very different when they are docked and cropped though they are beautiful either way.

I have a miniature schnauzer Jack Russell x. He’s sweet as anything but he definitely has his protection instincts. He’s usually completely chilled but sometimes he sees someone on drugs or whatever and suddenly completely changes and stands there growling like a Doberman🤣. Whilst fairly chill and always got on with other dogs he was quite hard to train and is very wary around people so can see training them could be a challenge.

They are a LOT of dog but what makes them incredible (compared to all the previous breeds I’ve had) is the OFF switch. They can go from 0-100mph in a split second and from 100-0mph just as quickly. My girl is still a baby and is already more trained than any of the previous dogs I had (probably says more about me than them!). After only a few short months of owning this breed, I think I’m lovestruck ❤

Read a review by someone out of the US Marines who trained dogs for the military. He basically said the best dogs for personal protection were Dobermans, Giant Schnauzers and German Shepherds. Malinois were a bit too small to stop a large individual and Rotties and Cane Corso too big and slow. A determining factor is that it must be able to be deployed out of a car window, since it would often be with you in the car. I’ve got a beauty named Tess and she is still a force at the age of eight. She is my shadow.

Giant Schnauzers are highly sensitiv. They need a very clear surounding, not being harsh but clear with them. One has to be very friendly and very strict with them at the same time. Not a dog for beginners, but if you do it right a fantastic companion.

Our Giant Schnauzers have all been incredible dogs. They love children and are very protective. Our current girl Freya gets anxious when the Grandkids are here because she can't be with all of them at the same time. She needs to be RIGHT with them. :D They can be very stubborn however and do need patience and training early on. I don't recommend people getting them who don't or won't put in the time they need. Grooming can be an issue as well. They either need to be trimmed periodically or brushed often as their coats will mat. I'll take that over our Golden Retrievers shedding.

Very good and informative Video! The Riesenschnauzer is no Joke they are very good as Police K9 , Personal Protection, Rescue , Mantrailing , Apport , Obedience and all Sports where they can run and Pull like Canicross Bikejöring Skijöring etc. The working lines have many drive and will to please in combination with very good working mentality, they are strong, fast and have many endurance! Some of they are not so easy to handle and a working line is not good for a first time Owner, they need many exercises! Most of the Riesenschnauzer are very good with Kids but the owner must handle the Temperament! Many Riesenschnauzer have good hunting drive and kill Rats Cats Foxes! A very good all around working dog with better health than many other working breeds ! It gave different body types , some working females are only 25kg and males 30-35kg they are fast as a herder and some females have 35-40kg and males 40-50kg! My favorite is the lighter typ for working!

I can't say enough about how smart, sweet, protective and awesome this breed is! ♥️♥️♥️

We have a 3 yo show line Giant female. She is VERY vigilant, protective, and territorial. We taught her scent work and a bunch of other jobs and she learned them instantly. High energy, high drive, a strong need to work, and extreme loyalty. Very smart. She is a LOT of dog but an amazing addition to our fam. The video emphasizes how cuddly they are, but Giants can actually be pretty aloof. The personality of a Giant is an interesting combination of independent, goofy, hard-working, proud. This is 100% not a dog for somebody who is absent or at work a lot. They need a lot of continuous training, exercise, and mental stimulation. They also need strong leadership.

We have a giant Schnauzer, and she’s by far the smartest and most beautiful dog we’ve ever owned. And while she doesn’t have “formal” training, we’ve worked with her extensively. And she naturally knows what to do when it comes to protecting our family. She’s fun loving and a wonderful family pet, but she also takes her job very seriously when she feels like it’s necessary. She’s all business then.

ALWAYS minded Mommy..to a fault..and I never found a hair of hers in my bed. I would have the giant at the right time, after I get another small one. (They were bred UP which means the miniatures have no health problems and live long..much longer than large dogs typically do..since we've been feeding them SHT for so long BC the dogfood companies have LIED THRU THEIR TEETH to us. DUPED US!!. Dr. Marty dog food and similar Others who understand this, will make your dog much healthier, stronger and live wayy longer if you feed them right. starting with their Real food!

There's a GS rescue and some great breeders in the US. Research is key. The Great breeders are very protective of their lines and may not do business with you if they think their puppies will be abused, neglected. When my children were younger ours kept them from being victims a few times.

I don't think it was fair to refer to a standard poodle as a giant useless lapdog , standard poodles are highly intuitive and adapt to the wants and needs of the owners , if you pick the correct standard poodle out of the litter , you will actually have a well balanced instinctive dog with very good protection instincts. Great video , glad to see you cover the Giant , the gentleman's guard dog.

Grew up with a police trained giant Schauzer, he was always very aware of his surroundings, saved my grandma once from a mugger, we didn't even know, we were just outside waiting for her to arrive and he got really agitated and took off his own leesh and bolted behind a building and pinned down the guy that had a knife to my gandma's neck. He was the best, now I have a giant girl, she's not trained for protection just normal dog training and she's an oversized cat and extremely friendly, haha. I love this breed.

Loved this breed for years, and I'd love to get one, but the closest we've gotten is two miniature mixes. Nonetheless, despite their genetic differences there must be something inherent in all schnauzer breeds that makes them great watch dogs because even our mini mixes weren't ones for anybody to go unnoticed. Dare I say one of them was possibly just as dangerous to mess with as one of these giants, she wasn't like normal dogs wanting to go for hands, arms, legs, she could jump quite high very easily and her favorite target seemed to be the face. We always had to watch her with strangers and if she didn't trust/like you, she'd let you know in no uncertain terms. Those individuals were under constant stare, forced into a cornered if they tried to move, and in the case with one friend who taunted her, we had to keep her on a leash if they were around because she would try to constantly lunge at them. Others who they sensed posed no harm, they'd either be at their feet or fighting to get on their lap to get petted.

I have a Mini Schnauzer that will tear somebodies ass up if they threaten me or my (his) family. He’s our best friend in the world and he protects us well. He doesn’t have the size, strength and raw power of a Giant Schnauzer but he’s got the same heart.

Anneka, thanks for this! I just found my next dog, thanks to this video. I had long since heard of the Giant Schnauzer breed, and while I knew it was likely a dog that could be SOMEWHAT capable as a guard dog, I had no idea just HOW formidable/impressive this breed really is!! And really the biggest impediment to me holding off and not getting a dog was I have a number of family members (my mom, niece, etc.) who are ok around hypo-allergenic dogs, but can't be around most other dog breeds (which again is primarily why I have held off on buying one, because both the Doberman and Rhodesian Ridgeback are not hypo-allergenic). And because I also want my need breed to be superb guard dogs (as the Doberman and RR references above would indicate), I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the GS is BOTH hypo-allergenic AND a guard dog 'second to none' according to the trainer in the video. And what also helped clinch it for me is that the breed is known to love people/family/friends, and after watching the dogs in the video interact with you SO enthusiastically, that's when I knew I had found my next dog. Again, thanks a LOT!! :)

I once seen a small black Schnauzer sitting in a car at a Sams club. Seem like a sweet dog. Owner said I could pet him. I must of went past the widow frame the second time I petted him.. He nipped me. Then I realized why the owner asked me before if I wanted a dog. He didn't break my skin. But it was very protective of his car. Still was a nice dog.
