World's Best Table Tennis Robot vs TableTennisDaily's Dan!

Спорт

Hey guys,
Today I met my first ever non-human table tennis player, Forpheus from Omron at the Messe Exhibition Center in Hanover, Germany. This machine is absolutely incredible and has inbuilt features such as artificial intelligence and the ability to learn from the opponent! What I found mind blowing was how well it handled my shots and spinny serves! I used an allround bat with Sriver rubbers on so I was able to generate a lot of spin.
How long until this robot beats a World Champion?

How incredible is this robot!? 🔥 It's mind blowing how well the robot handles all the variations of spin I could give it! The bat I used was a all round blade with sriver on both sides. How long until this robot beats a World Champion? 🤔

All jokes aside, I think that will be a HUGE obstacle on the way to making it the best table tennis player. The way I see it, this robot can only defend regular shots. Can't attack and can't catch neither high/short&low/angled balls. Backspin is probably somewhat of a problem too.

The AI learns by itself, yes, but it learns off of testing and practice, meaning it should roughly get better at the same rate that you are... If that means that the AI becomes impossible to play against, something went wrong in the code, since if you're the only player, it doesn't have the impossible to learn (since if you can do it, it's obviously no longer impossible simce you're capable of doing it) However I can imagine that on both sides, you and the bot could reach near imposeible levels, however I'm putting emphasis on the "and" in there, since it should be impossible for either side to get an edge when ONLY practicing together

This is why resetting the robot would allow you to keep getting better and the threshold of evenness would become higher and higher as you keep resetting it

@@cherryspriteyt1432 fair enough, but wouldn't you, trying to improve, try diffrent ways to approach it? Eventually meneing diffrent moves together to catch it off gaurd Like, a reset would have its up sides and downsides, youd have an easier opponent, yet.. Exactly so, your opponent is way easier so you have to re-adjust to that, the opponent would as to say go from high tier to mid tier.... Irl how often do you see a mid tier win from a high tier (idk if i can speak since i dont watch tabletennis), it's practically just draining a fair chubk of time for the AI to reach just that few sweet points where you would actually improve at a steady pace... And I know they say "slow but steady" but yer gonna need to weigh it out... To put it in the same perspective as before, if youre the mid tier, how often do you learn something new, or feel like youve become better just from those few minutes against a high tier?

I doubt that would happen. There is a massive flaw in its design that is motion range.

@Gaston Fontenla Maybe he played with some shitty slow racket and it's also harder to play in such an environment full of people.

Yeah, also backspin touch balls - look at the paddle position of the machine. It’s just a really good blocker. It doesn’t set up its own offence. If Dan was playing strategically he would’ve had it easily.
