World record holder Tigist Assefa took second place to Peres Jepchirchir in a battle to the finish at the 2024 London Marathon. Assefa clocked 2:16:23 for her second-place finish, which was her first marathon effort since setting the women's marathon world record at the 2023 Berlin Marathon.
