Mate, sub-50 indoors by her was a sure possibily last indoor season. Even before her first sub-50 this season her targests were already much higher and this time was much closer to a sub-49 (which I think is highly likely she could've done had she been chasing someone like an all-out McLaughlin). People understimate her massively and don't add-up her crazy splits in an insane amount of multiple runs each championship, she's probably already in sub-51 400mh shape, just didn't make sense to try and shorten something like 0.5s to still get second behind McLaughlin at the WCs.

With McLaughlin's sub-48 split plus her mid-50 with the hurdles and Bol's multiple low-to-mid-48s splits while sprinting 1600-2400m in each chamiopnship and mutiple WRs/WBs (now including an almost sub-49 indoor WR) I'm pretty sure we should be _way_ past the point of considering _them_ the outsiders who 'could put pressure' on the more conventional 400m runners. When I think of the best 400m female runners I don't think of Miller-Uibo and Paulino (I would even consider Steiner and Mu could beat them... not to mention at least 3 DSD athletes and pre-ban Eid Nasser), after Koch and Kratochvílová the greatets ever in the event are a couple of hurdlers, and one of them will most likely eventually break the outdoor WR too.
@GyariSan1
Жыл бұрын
@@frankiek2269 You are, in fact, very incorrect. Flat speed times starting out from a block is NOT faster than an anchor split time from a running start, especially if the previous leg was far ahead of competition and had no obstruction to pass the baton. The hardest part of any sprint is getting started. In a normal 100 metre sprint, for the first ten metres, even Usain Bolt is actually running quite slowly (compared to the average time per 10 meters overall) because he’s going from not even moving for the first couple hundredths of a seconds, to what is still a relatively slow speed at the 10 metre mark. But in a relay, every member of the team except the first one gets a running start. The baton is passed at a speed which is roughly the same as if they only STARTED running 100m at the 20m mark. The slowest part of the race has been deducted and been replaced by an extra 20m on the other end, where they are moving at close to top speed. Also, since relay splits are calculated based on when a runner catches the Baton, there are many variables at play which affects the overall time, hence it is not a definitive indicator when comparing 400m records. To provide you an example, Allyson Felix back in 2015 WC ran a 47.72 400m relay split, but her 400m flat PB record stands at 49.26. You will find this pattern across all athletes, where their relay splits are almost always faster than their flat records. Sydney's 400m flat PB as we speak still stands at 50s, though I'm sure she's capable of much faster. And she also achieved 51s split during the Tokyo Olympics 4x400m when she was the first leg starting out from the blocks.

Kudos to the athlete directly on Bol's inside - she pushed too hard though, especially out of the blocks and although she kept form till the end she might have come 2m closer if she had just paced herself slightly better over the first 100/150m.

That is a bit of a harsh comment given that both runners ran the fastest of all athletes this year indoor so far. Klaver is a 200m specialist, so Bol's start might seem a bit deceptively slower. Klaver paced herself excellently.
@aabb6677

@@JonathanvG-wj1ro A bit harsh saying Bol might have ran .07ms faster if she had got a perfect start! They both ran a fantastic race, but if I were either of their coaches I would be saying what I wrote above to 'inspire' them to even greater possibilities. As far as Klaver is concerned, if she was running against a lesser (but still world class) opposition I believe she would have 'tied' up in the home straight because she went out too fast - she was almost level with Bol at 150m and if you study the video had to momentarily 'check' her stride as Bol came down through the lane's - that would have cost her energy - however slight. A 200m runner simply cannot use the same technique to run twice the distance - practically all 200m runners are 'blown' at the end of their race and going out of the blocks 'flat out' is simply using up too much energy - that is why she dropped away at the end, there was nothing left in the tank, although as I said she maintained her form quite well.

@@aabb6677 You are not their coach and neither of them will read your comment, nor do they need a random person's comment to 'inspire' them. Klaver didn't fade on the second lap at all. That is particularly good given that Bol's second lap was where she actually made the difference (in regard to her previous races and the previous WR). It astonishes me how some people (say non professionals/experts) think they know better all based on what they see on youtube.

In this weekend we have got a Polish cup in Toruń. Today Natalia Kaczmarek broke a polish record. 50.81 and this is good result. During interview with her I heart that Femke ran 49.24 but I thought that this is outdoor. But I was suprised when I read that this is indoor😳. In this summer in Budapeszt she will be run 48.50 I think

@GyariSan1

To be fair she had a very slight pause after the start gun (only marginal), she might have had another .070ms with a flying start (49.19 sounds even better!)? Kudos to the athlete directly on Bol's inside - she pushed too hard though, especially out of the blocks and although she kept form till the end she might have come 2m closer if she had just paced herself slightly better over the first 100/150m.

That is particularly good given that Bol's second lap was where she actually made the difference (in regard to her previous races and the previous WR).
