World Record Burmese Python?! Prehistoric Pets

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Is this the biggest Burmese python in the world? Could it be the next world record? The Burmese python is the third largest snake in the world, and this big girl that got donated to The Reptile Zoo is a perfect example of why! Her name is Cucumber (given by the owner) and she's over 20 years old and absolutely stunning, not to mention giant!

The snake only died when it was killed and carried to the village to be cut open for confirmation that it had killed and eaten her. Her body was indeed found in the snake’s stomach. @Nicole Lee, no they didn't feed them bunnies that day. Also if you like snakes but don't want a massive snake that require eating large prey, I'd suggest getting a ball python. Ball pythons are harmless, they have a nice smallish thick girth and they only eat mice or rats. Also ball pythons have a great temperament and they are usually very sweet snakes.

Man, that is a giant burm. She does look quite obese though. Barely any noticeable change in thickness from her head to her neck. Perhaps a diet would benefit her? Also, I've always wondered, how hard is it to get a snake(or any reptile I guess) to lose weight? Like, does the fact that they can go into a state of very low metabolism when food is unavailsble make it difficult to get them to use up their fat reserves?

I'm my experience (mostly Burmese pythons but have done this with other python species too) small meals and exercise are best for losing weight rather than cutting food off entirely. When they stop eating, as you said, their digestive systems almost shut down and they go into energy conservation mode, using the bare minimum amount of energy to survive. They'll still lose weight, but it will take a very long time. When they digest food they use a lot of energy, and small meals will keep the digestive system active but won't provide enough energy to break even, and they will lose weight more quickly, but it still takes time. Exercise like swimming and climbing also help a ton, but some species will get more out of this than others.

I can't help but agree. I'm not going to place blame on anyone, but in my opinion I feel she might have been overfeed to gain girth for more eye catching entertainment. And, I mean, I get it. Yet, at the same time, I don't approve of force feeding/over feeding pets to make them bigger. Let them naturally gain their size with scheduled feeding of natural proportioned prey. Yes, it takes longer and they might die of old age before getting there, but it's better then.. well.. what you see in this video. He even mentioned force feeding another snake to purposefully make larger within this video. For some tips on how to tell a snake is overweight: cleavage on each side of the spine, extra fat rolls (just like humans) that appear on the body when the snake curls or bends at angles, and the large bulge near the end if the tail. I've seen Jay mention it is just the digested food being ready to be "released", but I can almost 99% guarantee you that the bulge is there 24/7. Now, I enjoy most of Jay's videos, except these where you can clearly see a reptile within captivity not in the best of shape. They don't get the same type of exercise as the wild kind and cannot burn the fat they store during large feedings. It is up to the caretaker to keep pets on a healthy diet.

The longest retic ever verified was around 26-27 feet. The 33 ft is not verified and widely considered untrue. The longest anaconda Is said to be 28 but the longest ever verified was between 21 and 22 ft. And Burmese pythons are typically longer than the anaconda. You will find a lot more 18-foot Burmese pythons then you will anacondas, but they have never verified a Burmese python over 21 ft. So it's still considered the third longest even though they are consistently longer than the anaconda. But online records of The longest snakes, are usually greatly exaggerated.
