World of Warships - Who Dares Wins
Ойындар
"Who Dares Wins" the motto of the Special Air Service, in a battle featuring HMS Daring, which funnily enough gets decided by someone who doesn't dare and therefore doesn't win.

To anyone wondering, the exact article was published December, 1998. Issue 70, with the exact pages being 74-77. Paul Charlton: Self Confessed Star Wars Addict. Brilliant. Also known as Major General Kessler, commander of 6 squadrons of TIE fighters. Jingles served on HMS Nottingham at the time as well. I’m not able to provide the exact link since KZread doesn’t really allow external links in comments without the content creator passing it off. It is very true that in reality, subs and aircraft carriers fundamentally changed naval warfare. But that does not mean they are fun to have a game based on firing the big guns out of the giant boats.

@twerking bollocks yes, I know. USN submariner, here. The point is that a sub is a torpedo boat. A slow one at that, either barely faster than the battleships or actually slower then the battleships. Makes them hard to employ coordinated with a fleet.
Was Alliance the ship with torpedoes so broken, Flamu knew where they were coming from, managed to evade them just barely, then they circled around and hit him anyway?

the daring was what got me interested in the game as I served 3 years in HMAS Duchess
Ackshually Jingles, there is another possibility regarding the Salem: it's entirely possible that the Salem had his radar swapped out for hydro. Sure, you lose a few kilometers of detection, but hydro lasts much longer, detects incoming torpedoes and also submarines. I don't play my Salem often but I almost never equip radar on it because of this.
@chiph4288
Жыл бұрын
Does Salem not have radar and hydro as separate consumables? Usually the radar on US cruisers can be switched out for fighters or spotter plane, not hydro
@thelastholdout
Жыл бұрын
@@chiph4288 it does not. You have to choose between hydro and radar on the Salem. The hydro is standard for US cruisers but the radar is more akin to what you'll find on the Atlanta.
Wow! What a blast from the past! Was a huge fan of Mr. Brooker's work and had several of his PC Zone works stuck up in the PC workshop in which I toiled as a tech back in the day. Great anecdote, btw. Oh, and today's vid was entertaining, too ;)
The British DD line was one of the funniest lines I've grinded. Tier VIII onwards is a joy to play.
Holyyy Crap! Reading the article on internet archive, I see a very young jingles, all skinny, handsome, and on the verge of becoming the gnome overlord of our blessed salt mines. Seriously, quite the dapper chap you were.
Yet another great video, I need to sign up for your support whatever. The thing is, I *was* one of those original WOT players that signed up due to the historical aspects - mid 50's back then and an avid ww2 and military buff. Then WoT went to $hit. FYI - the way you deal with wheeled scouts is you put a TOW through them - wheeled scout - 90 mph, TOW 600+, Dragon, Javelin, hell Abrahms at 1500 meters - blat. Scout loses. None of this battlefield zooming crap. So, off I went to WoWs - historical again. On your recommendation, picked up Japanese Destroyer Captain. If you haven't read it, read it. Or I'll send you my copy as long as you agree to send it on. As much as Japanese destroyers early on were way ahead, and the USN was still stuck in the early 30s, the USN got religion and pushed out RADAR Asap. Tactics changed, and about 1/2 way through the book you can see it. So, if you go above - meh - tier 7, you're off to arcade land. Hybrid battleships? The only way they could work is if they sacrificed armor, and we all know WG has hacked the code for CVs. They do it every time. Well, it's *their* game right? Meh. I'll watch the video and do real life things. I have a chicken coop to build. But Paul, if you ever wander through the Atlanta area, dinner is on me American style.

Same here, former WoT clan commander, moved to WoWS with great satisfaction for a couple of years, collecting historical ships in port and testing odd setups that everyone else thought can't possibly work "according to the current meta" (funniest phrase used by "pro gamer" youtubers, trolling these guys in game was a real treat whenever I met one). I was already annoyed by WG's money grab strategies last winter when Putler decided to invade Ukraine, stopped playing the same day as I won't help finance mass murder just for the sake of shooting pixels on a screen. I know WG is supposed to be based in Cyprus, but I have no doubt that most of the money still goes to Russia. I was kinda busy over the past year, but I'm thinking that War on the Sea might be a viable alternative for guys like us, check out a channel called Wolfpack345 to see a well presented play-through.
After a day at work dealing with a-holes who baulk at helping a guy who asks for a little bit of help, while they stand circle jerking themselves, watching this video and enjoying every bit, from the stories about your time in the Royal Navy, to getting the ships wrong as they get taken out, God that really hits the spot! Thank you for all you do Jingles!
there should be a standing order among non CV players that states, If there are CVs in play all other ships on both teams dont shoot at eacheother until the CVs are dead.
That captain is annoying! GG
Ohh it's my boy GrundelFungus getting featured!
Jingles I'm honestly impressed you managed to say 'Grundel Fungus' with a straight face.
A game that goes right down to the wire like this one is definitely preferable to the types of one-sided games most turn up to be.
A Somers that looks, sounds, and smells like a Jutland, and an Indomitable that looks, sounds, and smells like a Louisiana. Please, never change.
I feel miffed at the lack of one of your beautiful homemade win screens. Thanks for keeping these coming.
GRUNDELFUNGUS!!! What a name :)
Salem may not have *had* radar. It's radar shares a slot with hydro, and it's commonly recommended to take the hydro over the pretty anemic 8.5km radar.
So Jingles, you've been a geek for a long time I gather.
love your stories - thank you for that!!

Thank you for sharing this glorious win and congratulations to the winning team! ❤😊
I found it interesting the the Daring never got Radared (At least I did notice it). When playing a DD, especially a Daring, it is possible to avoid being regularly detected by aircraft. Of course if you hang around the middle of the map for most of the game, you'll get detected more often. It is Radar that I find challenging. I can't hide from it, even if they are on the other side of a huge island. At least with the Fun Police you have the chance of smoking up and disappearing. It is very rare that CV have any affect of my games, and I am a primary DD player. Interesting.
@Tearnofear
Жыл бұрын
But you can calculate Radar regarding Distance, active Time, Cooldown and behavior of certain Ship. Neither of that does work against a CV. If you're behind a Island and a Radar gets you, "nothing" happens. You're detected, that's it. Not good, sure, but its on you to change. You have a good amount of Time the moment Radar is off. Even before you can Act. If a CV spots you behind a Island, well needless to say anything. A CV is aswell able to detect your approach way before a Radar can. "It is very rare that CV have any affect of my games, and I am a primary DD player. Interesting." Interesting indeed, but not because of the reason you might think^^

While its true that dive bombers in general were more effective, its important to note that the aircraft that was responsible for the most sunk tonnage was in fact a torpedo bomber, the Fairey Swordfish.

Morning Jingles
Durn, I missed the RN sub museum and the HMS Alliance when I was in Portsmouth a couple of years ago. Guess I'll have to make another trip there. Gotta go to Fall River, Massachusetts first though.
Can't tell you how many battles I've had where it just comes down to a CV duel of fates. Truly painful to watch
Watching some 5+ year old games that popped up again in my recommended and back then no one really had a problem with carriers based on the various commentary. AA worked and carriers weren't a protected class.
I need to look through my boxes of those PC magazines and find that picture...
So what you're saying is that we need to put Cap'n Jingles in the Alliance, a ship he's been on before.
GrundleFungus simply wins everytime he logs in with the name GrundleFungus.
I was yelling switch to HE just as you were!
1:50 HMS Alliance was also a Transformer in "The Last Knight"
Always see hybrids park behind an island never using guns never tanking.
I get the whole fun police attitude towards carriers within this game. But historically they were the most destructive battle platform in naval warfare to this day. Yes its annoying to be constantly hounded by carriers but its to an extent, fairly realistic. But yes, limit them to 1 carrier per side per battle and classify carrier hybrids as carriers.
Christ almighty what is that commander voice he's using
actually.... lol..."the Somers just got taken out by the Indomitable" ... in the meantime the Jutland was bombed by the Louisiana. awesome!
Actually Jingles that wasn’t the som…. Click.click… BANG
Oh boy, a new episode of "jingles complains about carriers and subs for half an hour, despite not understanding the game for years"
That captain had me in stitches

I had that copy of PC Zone! Also, the edition where Brooker had to eat his own arse was hillarious
Come on Jingles, that Jutland Somers mix up is even rough for your standards :) You literally mentioned the Jutland 10 seconds before it got killed.
Jingles you crap old man! How is it that you've never mentioned this story about being in a Magazine in the 90s before?!
Thats a Puma light armored recon car, with a 50mm cannon. Japanese like their accuracy to vehicles. I mean see some vehicle animes to understand.
now I know we need to find an issue fo that magazine you appeared on!
Morning Jingles, from Indianapolis, Indiana.
anyone else want a game mode where its all hybrid battleships/ carriers so they call feel are pain and know why we hate their ships
That voiceover in the background made me wish I was deaf.
Acshually Jingles, The smoke screen left beside the hindenburg was Jutland and not somers. Another, acshually Jingles, louisiana cant deploy fighters, that was the kaga
Brilliant Daring!!!!
Jingles. How can you say Grundle Fungus and not laugh? I did every time you said it.
IIRC, Alliance in game is a T8, while the German type 21 uboat is in game as a T10. That seems rather messed up to me, given the Alliance is several years newer and was more capable even when she was first built. Indeed, even the British T10, the T-class, is of a preceding class to the Alliance. Ah WG, never stop making Jingles look competent! haha! :P
I also live near the sub museum in Gosport :)
Evening admiral from down under
Aircraft spotting is perfectly realistic even though the rest of the game is not. CV aircraft I mean. Not the ASW ones. The aircraft spot a dd they radio the fleet channel "DD, its a daring, going 33 knots, rudder left 30 deg, its slowing down to 25 knots, its stopping,..." or rather no, these aircraft are fitted with ancient computers. The ones they used on early spacecraft to relay telemetry real time. They relay it to the fleet. These computers can track a whole armada.
Salem's radar range was 9 flat. at some point it was nerfed to 8.5
It’s funny that Hybrid BBs have better Dive Bombers than CVs. I mean seriously, Hybrid BBs Dive Bomber dispersion is just no existence. Means you can do 20K in a single drop. With no penalty because cool down of those Dive Bombers started once you launched planes into the air. Means if you fly for 2 mins. You have another set ready to use.
Gotta love a British Sommers that looks like a Jutland!
Can't wait till they add minelayers that preposition before the battle starts and start crapping minefields all over the maps. That'll be a good time...
been on the alliance also as i live about 15 miles away
Yes yes, even the carriers.. 😂😂😂
It’s bizarre to me to hear HMS Alliance, and my town of Gosport, referenced on a KZread video 😅 didn’t know you were an approximate neighbour Mr Jingles!
